¹ ¶ And it came to pass that the people complained in an evil manner in the ears of the LORD, and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burnt among them and consumed in the uttermost parts of the camp. ² Then the people cried unto Moses, and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of the place Taberah because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. ⁴ ¶ And the vulgar who were mixed in among them returned to their lust; and even the sons of Israel wept and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish, which we freely ate in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic, ⁶ but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all besides this manna before our eyes. ⁷ And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium. ⁸ And the people scattered about and gathered it and ground it in mills or beat it in a mortar and baked it in pans and made cakes of it, and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. ⁹ And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it. ¹⁰ Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, each man in the door of his tent; and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased. ¹¹ And Moses said unto the LORD, Why hast thou afflicted thy slave and why have I not found grace in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all these people upon me? ¹² Have I conceived all these people? Have I begotten them, that thou should say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nurse carries a sucking child, unto the land which thou hast sworn unto their fathers? ¹³ Where should I find flesh to give unto all these people? For they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh that we may eat. ¹⁴ I am not able to bear all these people alone because it is too heavy for me. ¹⁵ And if thou must deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found grace in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness. ¹⁶ ¶ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be elders of the people, and their princes; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the testimony that they may stand there with thee. ¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone. ¹⁸ But thou shalt say unto the people, Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and ye shall eat flesh, for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was better with us in Egypt. Therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. ¹⁹ Ye shall not eat one day nor two days nor five days neither ten days nor twenty days, ²⁰ But even a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and it becomes loathsome unto you, because ye have despised the LORD who is among you and have wept before him, saying, Why have we come forth out of Egypt? ²¹ Then Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen, and thou hast said, I will give them flesh that they may eat a whole month! ²² Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? ²³ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’s hand waxed short? Thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not. ²⁴ ¶ And Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people and set them round about the tabernacle. ²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease. ²⁶ But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad, upon whom the spirit also rested; and they were of those that were written, but they had not gone unto the tabernacle; and they began to prophesy in the camp. ²⁷ And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp. ²⁸ Then Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. ²⁹ And Moses said unto him, Art thou jealous for my sake? It would be good that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them! ³⁰ And Moses withdrew into the camp, he and the elders of Israel. ³¹ ¶ And there went forth a wind from the LORD and brought quail from the sea and left them upon the camp, a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp and almost two cubits high upon the face of the earth. ³² Then the people stood up all that day and all that night and all the next day, and they gathered the quail; he that gathered least gathered ten heaps, and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp. ³³ And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah because there they buried the people that lusted. ³⁵ From Kibrothhattaavah he moved the people unto Hazeroth, and they abode at Hazeroth.

¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD, and he slew him also.

²³ And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah. ²⁴ Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness; ³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

⁷ And in the morning ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

⁹ And Moses spoke unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the sons of Israel, Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your murmurings.

² And the people chided with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Why do ye tempt the LORD? ³ So the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?

² And there went out fire from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

³³ Thus they departed from the mount of the LORD three days’ journey, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days’ journey, searching out a resting place for them.

³⁵ ¶ And fire came out from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

² And there was no water for the congregation; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. ³ And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying, Oh, that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! ⁴ And why have ye caused the congregation of the LORD to come into this wilderness that we and our beasts should die here? ⁵ And why have ye made us to come up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? It is not a place to plant seed or of figs or of vines or of pomegranates; there is not even any water to drink.

⁵ And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.

²² Also at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibrothhattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath.

¹⁸ how he met thee by the way and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary and he did not fear God.

²² For fire shall be kindled in my anger and shall burn unto the lowest part of Sheol and shall consume the earth with her fruit and burn up the foundations of the mountains.

²⁷ And when the mourning was past, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and gave birth to a son unto him. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

¹² And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, another came who said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

²¹ Therefore the LORD heard this and was wroth, so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel

¹⁸ And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

³³ For Tophet is ordained of yesterday for the king of Babylon, it is also prepared; he has deepened and enlarged the pile of her fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD like a stream of brimstone kindles it.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with eternal flames?

³⁹ Mem Why does the living man have pain, the man in his sins?

⁵ The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, and the world and all that dwell therein.

⁴³ And if thy hand causes thee to fall, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter into life maimed than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that can never be quenched, ⁴⁴ where their worm does not die, and the fire is never quenched. ⁴⁵ And if thy foot causes thee to fall, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter halt into life than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that can never be quenched, ⁴⁶ where their worm does not die, and the fire is never quenched. ⁴⁷ And if thine eye causes thee to fall, pluck it out; it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than having two eyes to be cast into hell, ⁴⁸ where their worm does not die, and the fire is never quenched. ⁴⁹ For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

¹⁰ Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and perished by the destroyer.

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts.

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own desires; and their mouth speaks arrogant things, admiring persons to take advantage.

²³ ¶ And Abraham drew near and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ Peradventure there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are in it? ²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked and that the righteous should be treated as the wicked that are far from thee. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? ²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes; ²⁸ peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it. ²⁹ And he spoke unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake. ³⁰ And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord now be angry if I shall speak; peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there. ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord; peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake. ³² And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once; peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake. ³³ And the LORD went away as soon as he had left communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned unto his place.

¹⁰ Now therefore let me alone that my wrath may wax hot in them and consume them; and I will put thee over a great nation. ¹¹ Then Moses grieved before the LORD his God and said, LORD, why shall thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians speak and say, For evil did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains and to consume them from upon the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath and repent of the evil of thy people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy slaves, to whom thou didst sware by thine own self and hast said unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall take it for inheritance for ever. ¹⁴ Then the LORD repented of the evil which he said should be done unto his people.

³¹ Then Moses returned unto the LORD and said, I pray thee, for, this people who have sinned a great sin and have made themselves gods of gold, ³² that thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me now out of thy book which thou hast written.

⁹ And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us, for this is a stiffnecked people, and forgive our iniquity and our sin and possess us.

¹³ And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, for thou didst bring this people out of the midst of them with thy might; ¹⁴ and the inhabitants of this land will say, for they have already heard that thou, oh LORD, wast among this people, that thou, O LORD, art seen face to face, and that thy cloud was over them, and that thou didst go before them by day time in a pillar of a cloud and in a pillar of fire by night; ¹⁵ and that thou hast caused all this people to die as one man; and the Gentiles who have heard of thy fame will speak, saying, ¹⁶ Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore unto them; therefore, he has slain them in the wilderness. ¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, ¹⁸ The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, letting go of iniquity and transgression and absolving, but by no means absolving the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generations. ¹⁹ Pardon now the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy and as thou hast forgiven this people from Egypt even until now. ²⁰ ¶ Then the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word.

⁴⁵ Depart from among this congregation, and I will consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take the censer and put fire in it from off the altar and put incense upon it and go quickly unto the congregation and reconcile them; for the wrath has gone out from before the face of the LORD; the plague is begun. ⁴⁷ Then Aaron took his censer as Moses said and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people; and he put on incense and reconciled the people. ⁴⁸ And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

⁷ Then the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against thee; pray unto the LORD that he take away these serpents from among us. And Moses prayed for the people.

¹⁹ For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also. ²⁰ And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him, and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

³⁴ When he slew them, then they sought him, and they returned and enquired early after God. ³⁵ And they remembered that God was their rock and the high God their redeemer.

²³ Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath lest he should destroy them.

⁴ It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to blaspheme the living God and to reprove with the words which the LORD thy God has heard; therefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is still left.

¹ ¶ Then the LORD said unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my will would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

³ And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

² and said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us)

² And it came to pass that when they had come to an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee; who shall lift up Jacob? for he is small. ³ The LORD repented of this; It shall not be, said the LORD. ⁴ Afterward the Lord GOD showed me this: And, behold, the Lord GOD called to judge by fire, and it devoured the great deep and ate up the inheritance. ⁵ Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee; who shall raise up Jacob? for he is small. ⁶ The LORD repented of this: This also shall not be, said the Lord GOD.

²⁴ Then Simon answered and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

²⁶ For it was expedient that we have such a high priest, who is holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens,

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be whole. The effectual prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

¹ ¶ My little children, I write these things unto you, that ye sin not; and if anyone has sinned, we have an Advocate before the Father, Jesus, the righteous Christ; ² and he is the reconciliation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁶ If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask God, and he shall give him life that is, unto those that do not sin unto death. There is sin unto death, for which I do not say that you should pray.

³⁸ And a mixed multitude went up also with them and many sheep and cows.

¹⁰ ¶ In that season the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the sons of Israel; and this son of the Israelite woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; ¹¹ and the Israelite woman’s son pronounced the Name and cursed; and they brought him unto Moses. And his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.

³ Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

¹⁸ And they tempted God in their heart by asking for food according to the desires of their soul. ¹⁹ And they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

¹⁴ They gave themselves over to lust in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert.

¹⁴ But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.

⁶ ¶ Now these things became types of us, that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

¹⁴ from men, with thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life and whose belly thou dost fill with thy provision: they satisfy their sons and leave the rest to their family.

¹⁹ whose end shall be perdition, whose God is their belly and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things).

⁴ And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, becoming thinner from day to day? Wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.

¹² and the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

¹⁴ And when the dew ceased to descend, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing as small as the hoar frost on the ground. ¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna (What is it?): for they did not know what it was. Then Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

³¹ And the house of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, {Gr. Stauroo – hung on a stake}, unto the Jews a stumblingblock and unto the Gentiles foolishness; ²⁴ but unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

¹⁷ He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}; To him that overcomes I will give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him a small white stone and in the stone a new name written, which no one knows except the one that receives it.

¹⁶ This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for each one, according to the number of your persons; take ye each one for those who are in his tent. ¹⁷ And the sons of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less. ¹⁸ And when they did measure it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered each one according to his eating.

²³ And he said unto them, This is what the LORD has said, Tomorrow is the holy sabbath of rest unto the LORD; bake that which ye will bake today and cook what ye will cook; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

²⁷ Labour not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for him has God the Father sealed.

³³ For the bread of God is he who descended from heaven and gives life unto the world. ³⁴ Then said they unto him, Lord, always give us this bread. ³⁵ And Jesus said unto them, I AM the bread of life; he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes in me shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said unto you, That even though ye have seen me, ye do not believe. ³⁷ All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and he that comes to me I will in no wise cast out. ³⁸ For I came down from the heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. ³⁹ And this is the Father’s will who has sent me, that of all whom he has given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again in the last day. ⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴¹ The Jews then murmured of him because he said, I AM the bread which descended from the heaven. ⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he says, I descended from heaven? ⁴³ Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who has sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard from the Father and has learned comes unto me. ⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes in me has eternal life. ⁴⁸ I AM the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I AM the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, they shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How is he able to give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye shall have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whosoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father, so he that eats me, he shall also live by me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate manna and are dead; he that eats of this bread shall live eternally.

¹³ ¶ And it came to pass, that in the evening quail came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew descended round about the host. ¹⁴ And when the dew ceased to descend, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

² My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb and as the showers upon the grass.

²³ and he commanded the clouds of above and opened the doors of the heavens ²⁴ and caused manna to rain upon them to eat and gave them wheat of the heavens. ²⁵ Man did eat the food of the strong; he sent them food to the full.

⁴⁰ The people asked, and he brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

¹ ¶ Then all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness!

²⁷ So they removed themselves from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side; and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, with their wives and their sons and their little children.

¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. ¹² And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. ¹³ These are the waters of Meribah; over which the sons of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

⁵⁹ God heard this and was wroth and greatly abhorred Israel:

²⁵ But murmured in their tents and did not hearken unto the voice of the LORD.

³² They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: ³³ Because they provoked his spirit to rebel, and he spoke it with his lips.

²¹ Do I not hate all those, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

²⁵ Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he has stretched forth his hand against them and has smitten them; and the mountains trembled, and their carcasses were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

⁴ And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou dost not know: for ye have kindled a fire in my anger, which shall burn for ever.

⁵ And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out and his hand was restored whole as the other.

¹⁴ And Jesus seeing it, became angry and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me and hinder them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.

²² Then Moses returned unto the LORD and said, Lord, why hast thou so afflicted this people? Why is it that thou hast sent me?

⁴ Then Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.

¹⁵ And if thou must deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found grace in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

¹² How can I myself alone bear your troubles and your burdens and your strife?

² I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; cause me to understand why thou dost contend with me.

³ If thou, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall endure?

² And enter not into judgment with thy slave; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

¹⁰ ¶ Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them curses me.

¹⁸ Why was my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar and as waters that fail?

⁷ ¶ O LORD, thou hast seduced me, and I was seduced; thou wert stronger than I and hast overcome me; I am in derision daily; every one mocks me. ⁸ For since I spoke out, I raised my voice crying, Violence and destruction; because the word of the LORD has been a reproach unto me and a derision, daily. ⁹ And I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But he was in my heart as a burning fire and within my bones; I tried to forbear, and I could not.

¹⁴ ¶ Cursed be the day in which I was born; do not let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew and did not repent; and let him hear the cry in the morning and the shouting at noontide ¹⁷ because he did not slay me in the womb, and my mother would have been my grave, and her womb perpetual conception. ¹⁸ Why did I come forth out of the womb? To see labour and sorrow that my days should be consumed with shame?

²² Chet It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed because his mercies never diminish. ²³ Chet They are new every morning; great is thy faith.

³⁹ Mem Why does the living man have pain, the man in his sins? ⁴⁰ Nun Let us search out our ways, and seek, and turn again to the LORD.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts?

²⁸ Beside those things that are without, my daily combat is the welfare of all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}.

¹⁵ for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed for ever.

¹⁶ and said, By myself I have sworn, said the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son; ¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless thee and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies;

³ abide in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these lands, and I will confirm the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father;

²⁴ And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die; but God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land unto the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

⁵ And when the LORD shall have brought thee into the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, which he swore unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt do this service in this month.

¹¹ He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and shall gently lead those that are with young.

¹⁵ Can a woman forget her sucking child that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Even though they may forget, I will not forget thee.

²³ And kings shall be thy nursing fathers and their princesses thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for those that wait for me shall not be ashamed.

²³ And I will raise up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my slave David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

¹¹ I AM the good shepherd; the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.

¹⁹ ¶ My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ is formed in you,

⁷ ¶ But we were gentle among you, as a mother feeding and caring for her children,

³³ Then his disciples say unto him, From where do we have so much bread in the wilderness as to satisfy so great a multitude?

⁴ And his disciples answered him, From where can anyone satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe this, all things are possible to him that believes.

⁵ Then Jesus lifted up his eyes and saw a great company come unto him; he said unto Philip, From where shall we buy bread that these may eat? ⁶ But he said this to prove him, for he knew what he would do. ⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred denarius of bread is not sufficient for them, that each one of them may take a little. ⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said unto him, ⁹ There is a lad here, who has five barley loaves and two small fishes, but what are they among so many?

¹⁸ Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou and this people that is with thee; for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.

⁹ ¶ And I spoke unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone; ¹⁰ the LORD your God has multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude. ¹¹ Let the LORD God of your fathers add upon you a thousand times so many more as ye are and bless you, as he has promised! ¹² How can I myself alone bear your troubles and your burdens and your strife?

¹⁹ ¶ Then thou didst speak in vision to thy holy one and didst say, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of my people.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace.

¹³ He shall build the temple of the LORD, and he shall bear the glory and shall sit and rule upon his throne, and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

¹⁶ to the one we are the savour of death unto death and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

³² that thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me now out of thy book which thou hast written.

⁴ But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and desiring to die, he said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers.

²⁰ ¶ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; ²¹ who long for death, but it comes not; and search for it more than for hid treasures; ²² who rejoice exceedingly and are glad when they can find the grave;

⁸ ¶ Oh, that I might have my request and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! ⁹ Even that it would please God to destroy me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off! ¹⁰ Then should my comfort grow; I would hold on to sorrow without mercy; for I have not contradicted the words of the Holy One.

¹⁵ And my soul thought it better to be strangled and desired death more than my bones.

¹⁸ Why did I come forth out of the womb? To see labour and sorrow that my days should be consumed with shame?

³ Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me, for I would rather die than live.

⁸ And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah that he fainted and wished in his soul to die and said, It is better for me to die than to live. ⁹ And God said to Jonah, Art thou so angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

¹⁵ The LORD has taken away thy judgments; he has cast out thine enemy; the LORD is king of Israel in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death. ²¹ ¶ For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. ²² But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour, yet I do not know what to choose. ²³ For I am in a strait between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better: ²⁴ nevertheless, to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

⁴ and the patience finishes the work, that ye may be perfect and entire, not lacking in anything.

²⁷ and the sons of Joseph, who were born him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

²⁹ And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the sons of Israel:

¹ ¶ And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the LORD, thou and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship afar off.

⁹ ¶ Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel went up,

¹⁵ So I took the principals of your tribes, wise men and experts, and made them princes over you, princes over thousands and princes over hundreds and princes over fifties and princes over tens and officers among your tribes.

¹⁸ ¶ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all the gates of thy cities, which the LORD thy God shall give thee throughout thy tribes, and they shall judge the people with just (and righteous) judgment.

²⁸ Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, and I shall speak these words in their ears and call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against them.

¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, each man with his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.

¹ ¶ After these things the Lord appointed another seventy also and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place where he himself would come.

¹⁷ ¶ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject unto us in thy name.

⁵ ¶ And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of the man built.

³ And Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,

²² And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

²⁰ And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very grievous; ²¹ I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. ²² And the men turned their faces from there and went toward Sodom; but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

³³ And the LORD went away as soon as he had left communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned unto his place.

²² And let them judge the people at all seasons; and it shall be that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge, so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

¹¹ and be ready for the third day; for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon Mount Sinai.

²⁰ And the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mount, and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount, and Moses went up.

⁵ ¶ And the LORD descended in a cloud and was with him there proclaiming the name of I AM.

²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease.

⁵ Then the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth.

⁸ With him I will speak mouth to mouth and by sight not by enigmas; he shall see the similitude of the LORD. Why then were ye not afraid to speak against my slave Moses?

¹⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take Joshua, the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thine hand upon him

⁶ And the Spirit of the LORD will prosper thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them and shalt be turned into another man.

⁹ ¶ And when they had gone over, Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

¹⁵ And seeing him, the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

²⁰ Thou didst give thy good spirit to teach them and didst not withhold thy manna from their mouth and didst give them water for their thirst.

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon thy seed and my blessing upon thine offspring:

²⁰ And the Redeemer shall come to Zion and unto those that turn from the rebellion in Jacob, said the LORD. ²¹ And this shall be my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words, which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from now on and for ever.

²⁸ ¶ And it shall come to pass after this that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

¹³ And no one has ascended up to the heaven but he that came down from the heaven, even the Son of man, who is in the heaven.

³⁹ (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, which those that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

³ therefore, brethren, seek out among you seven men of whom you bear witness, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ⁴ And we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

⁹ But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, because the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, that person is not of him.

¹² Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that God has given us.

⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there is dispersal of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there is dispersal of operations, but it is the same God who works all in each one. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ one and the same Spirit operates all these things, dispersing to each one his own gift as he wills.

⁸ He therefore that despises us, does not despise man, but God, who has also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth, by the Spirit, in unfeigned brotherly love, love one another with a pure heart fervently,

¹⁹ These are those who make divisions, and are as animals, not having the Spirit.

² Then Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you and be clean and change your garments:

³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. ⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the word for every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. ⁵ And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in, which shall be twice as much as they gather daily. ⁶ Then Moses and Aaron said unto all the sons of Israel, At evening ye shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt; ⁷ And in the morning ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

¹⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes

¹⁵ And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day; come not at your women.

⁴ ¶ And the vulgar who were mixed in among them returned to their lust; and even the sons of Israel wept and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish, which we freely ate in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic, ⁶ but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all besides this manna before our eyes.

² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness! ³ And why has the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return into Egypt?

¹³ Get up, sanctify the people and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow; for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is anathema in the midst of thee, O Israel; thou canst not stand before thy enemies until ye take away the anathema from among you.

² And the people came to the house of God and abode there until the evening before God and lifted up their voices and wept sore

³⁹ to whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

⁸ And Moses said, This shall be when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full; for the LORD has heard your murmurings which ye have murmured against him; and what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.

¹³ ¶ And it came to pass, that in the evening quail came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew descended round about the host.

²⁷ And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us, for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke unto us: it shall be, therefore, a witness unto you lest ye deny your God.

³⁰ Therefore, the LORD God of Israel said, I had said indeed that thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever, but now the LORD said, It shall never be; for those that honor me I will honor, and those that lightly esteem me shall be vile.

¹⁹ But ye have this day rejected your God, who saves you out of all your afflictions and your troubles, and ye have said unto him, No, but set a king over us. Now, therefore, present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your thousands.

¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife.

²⁷ He rained flesh also upon them as dust and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: ²⁸ And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. ²⁹ So they did eat and were well filled; for he gave them their own desire; ³⁰ they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths,

¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.

⁷ ¶ The full soul loathes a honeycomb, but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

⁶ ¶ The son honours his father and the slave his master; if then I am a father, where is my honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? said the LORD of the hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, In what have we despised thy name?

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish, for I do a work in your days, a work which ye would in no wise believe, if one should declare it unto you.

² and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

³⁷ ¶ And the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, not counting the children.

²⁶ A half per head, that is, half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, which were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁶ all those that were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

³² These are those who were numbered of the sons of Israel by the houses of their fathers; all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

² Then a captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat of it.

³⁷ He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said unto him, Shall we go and buy bread for two hundred denarius and give them to eat?

¹⁸ And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.

³⁴ Then Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

⁶ But he said this to prove him, for he knew what he would do. ⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred denarius of bread is not sufficient for them, that each one of them may take a little.

¹⁴ Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent; he said and shall he not do it? He spoke and shall he not execute it?

¹⁷ And the king appointed the prince on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate; and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him. ¹⁸ And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria. ¹⁹ Unto which that prince had answered the man of God, and said, Even if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat of it.

⁴¹ And they turned back and tempted God and limited the Holy One of Israel.

² for I came, and no one showed himself; I called, and no one answered. Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stink because there is no water and die for thirst.

¹ ¶ Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

²⁸ Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, so that all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs. ²⁹ And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will visit you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

²⁵ Because I, the LORD, will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall no longer be prolonged, for in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and will perform it, said the Lord GOD.

¹⁴ I, the LORD, have spoken: I came and worked. I will not turn back, neither will I have mercy, neither will I repent; according to thy ways and according to thy doings, they shall judge thee, said the Lord GOD.

⁷ O thou that calls thyself the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD shortened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walks uprightly?

²⁶ But Jesus beheld them and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

³⁷ For with God nothing is impossible.

¹⁶ ¶ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be elders of the people, and their princes; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the testimony that they may stand there with thee.

²⁶ But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad, upon whom the spirit also rested; and they were of those that were written, but they had not gone unto the tabernacle; and they began to prophesy in the camp.

³⁸ For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and the fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

⁵ After that thou shalt come to the hill of God where the garrison of the Philistines is, and it shall come to pass when thou art come there to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery and a tambourine and a pipe and a harp before them; and they shall prophesy. ⁶ And the Spirit of the LORD will prosper thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them and shalt be turned into another man.

¹⁰ And when they came there to the hill, behold, the company of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God prospered him, and he prophesied among them.

²⁰ And Saul sent messengers to take David, and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. ²¹ And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. ²² Then he also went to Ramah and came to a great well that is in Sechu, and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah. ²³ And he went there to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and he went on and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. ²⁴ And he stripped off his clothes also and prophesied before Samuel in like manner and lay down naked all that day and all that night. From here it was said, Is Saul also among the prophets?

⁷ He spoke unto them in the pillar of fire; they kept his testimonies and the order that he gave them.

⁵ And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD: ⁶ therefore go thou, and read from the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’s house upon the day of fasting: and also in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. Thou shalt read them

²⁸ ¶ And it shall come to pass after this that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: ²⁹ and even upon the slaves and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

³⁴ While he was speaking this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they feared as they entered into the cloud. ³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; hear him.

¹⁷ And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; ¹⁸ and for certain on my slaves and on my handmaids I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy;

²⁸ And one of them named Agabus stood up and signified by the Spirit that there should be great famine throughout all the world, which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

⁹ And he had four daughters, virgins, who prophesied. ¹⁰ And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. ¹¹ And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle and bound his own hands and feet and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owns this girdle and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

⁴ Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonours his head. ⁵ But every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, for that is even the same as if she were shaven.

¹ ¶ Follow after charity and earnestly pursue spiritual gifts, but above all, that ye may prophesy. ² For he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God, for no one understands him, even though by the Spirit he speaks mysteries. ³ But he that prophesies speaks unto men for edification and exhortation and comfort.

³² And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning.

²¹ For the prophecy did not come in times past by the will of man, but the holy men of God spoke being inspired by the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ ¶ Then Moses said unto God, Who am I that I should go unto Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the sons of Israel out of Egypt?

¹³ And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send. ¹⁴ Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Do I not know thy brother Aaron, the Levite, and that he can speak well? And also, behold, he comes forth to meet thee, and when he sees thee, he will be glad in his heart.

²² Therefore, they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come there. And the LORD answered, Behold, he has hid himself among the stuff.

²⁶ Nevertheless, Saul said nothing that day, for he thought, Something has befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.

⁶ Then I said, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I do not know how to speak: for I am a child.

⁵ And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

⁹ And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.

¹¹ And the LORD would speak unto Moses face to face, as anyone would speak unto their friend. And he would turn again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart out of the tabernacle.

¹ ¶ Now after the death of Moses, the slave of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke unto Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

³⁸ And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name and he does not follow us; and we forbade him because he does not follow us. ³⁹ But Jesus said, Forbid him not, for there is no one who does a miracle in my name that can then speak evil of me. ⁴⁰ For he that is not against us is for us.

²⁶ And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan of whom thou gave witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.

³⁷ Then he said unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; ³⁸ pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

²⁹ And Paul said, I desire before God that by little or by much, not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were such as I am, except these bonds.

³ For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying and strife and divisions, are ye not carnal and walk as men?

²¹ ¶ Therefore let no one glory in men. For all things are yours;

⁴ ¶ Charity suffers long and is benign; charity envies not; charity does nothing without due reason, is not puffed up,

⁵ I would that ye all spoke with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied, for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} may receive edifying.

¹⁵ Some indeed preach the Christ even out of envy and strife, but others also out of good will. ¹⁶ Some preach the Christ out of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add tribulation to my bonds, ¹⁷ but the others out of charity, knowing that I am placed here for the defense of the gospel. ¹⁸ What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretense, or in truth, Christ is preached, and I therein do rejoice, and will even rejoice.

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in humility let each esteem others better than themselves,

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical.

⁵ Do ye think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy?

⁹ Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings,

¹³ And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

¹⁹ And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt.

¹⁰ Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them. They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

²⁶ He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven, and by his power he brought in the south wind. ²⁷ He rained flesh also upon them as dust and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: ²⁸ And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. ²⁹ So they did eat and were well filled; for he gave them their own desire;

⁷ He who causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth, made the lightnings in the rain; he who brings the winds out of his treasuries.

³⁶ Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

¹¹ The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer.

⁴⁹ Now those that died in that plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those that died concerning the matter of Korah.

⁹ And those that died in that plague were twenty-four thousand.

²⁷ The LORD will smite thee with the boil of Egypt and with the hemorrhoids and with the scab and with the itch, of which thou canst not be healed.

³⁰ they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths, ³¹ the wrath of God came upon them and slew the fattest of them and smote down the chosen of Israel.

¹⁴ They gave themselves over to lust in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert. ¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.

¹⁶ And they removed from the desert of Sinai and pitched at Kibrothhattaavah.

¹⁶ And afterward he moved the people from Hazeroth, and they pitched camp in the wilderness of Paran.

¹⁷ And they departed from Kibrothhattaavah and encamped at Hazeroth.

¹ ¶ These are the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel on this side of the Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
