Come thou with us, and we will do thee good; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel. ³⁰ And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to my own land and to my kindred. ³¹ And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; for thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be to us instead of eyes. ³² And it shall be, if thou go with us, that when we come into the goodness that the LORD shall do unto us, that we will do thee good. ³³ Thus they departed from the mount of the LORD three days’ journey, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days’ journey, searching out a resting place for them. ³⁴ And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, from when they went out of the camp. ³⁵ And it came to pass, when the ark was moved, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered, and let those that hate thee flee before thee. ³⁶ And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of Israel.

¹⁸ And thou shalt make two cherubim of gold; of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the seat of reconciliation.

³¹ ¶ And thou shalt make a lampstand of pure gold; of beaten work shall the lampstand be made; its base and its branches, its bowls, its knops, and its flowers shall be of the same.

⁷ But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.

¹³ But of that money that was brought into the house of the LORD, they did not make bowls of silver nor snuffers nor basins nor trumpets nor any vessels of gold or vessels of silver for the house of the LORD

¹² and the Levite singers, all of those of Asaph, those of Heman, and those of Jeduthun, together with their sons and their brethren, being clothed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets).

³ Blow the shofar in the new moon in the time appointed on our solemn feast day.

¹⁵ ¶ Happy are the people that know how to enter into joy; they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.

¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; the incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot stand them; iniquity and the solemn meeting.

¹ ¶ Set the shofar to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD because they have transgressed my covenant and rebelled against my law.

¹⁴ ¶ Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the earth into the house of the LORD your God and cry unto the LORD.

⁵ one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

⁵ ¶ Declare ye in Judah and publish in Jerusalem and say, Blow ye the shofar in the land; cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

¹⁵ Blow the shofar in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: ¹⁶ gather the people, sanctify the meeting, assemble the elders, gather the children and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber and the bride out of her closet.

²¹ Moreover thou shalt consider out of all the people men of virtue, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness, and place princes over them, of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

⁴ And with you there shall be a man of every tribe, every one head of the house of his fathers. ⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur; ⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab; ⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar; ⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon; ¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni; ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran; ¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Deuel; ¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan; ¹⁶ these were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, captains of the thousands of Israel.

² that the princes of Israel, heads of the houses of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over those that were numbered, offered;

¹⁵ So I took the principals of your tribes, wise men and experts, and made them princes over you, princes over thousands and princes over hundreds and princes over fifties and princes over tens and officers among your tribes.

³ ¶ These shall pitch toward the sunrise, on the east: the standard of the camp of Judah throughout their hosts and the prince of the sons of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab. ⁴ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred. ⁵ Next to him shall pitch those of the tribe of Issachar and the prince of the sons of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar. ⁶ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-four thousand four hundred. ⁷ And the tribe of Zebulun and the prince of the sons of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon. ⁸ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred. ⁹ All that were numbered in the camp of Judah were one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred, by their hosts. These shall set forth first.

⁶ And when ye blow an alarm the second time, then ye shall move the camp of those that are lodged on the side of the Negev; they shall blow an alarm for their journeys. ⁷ But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.

¹ ¶ Cry aloud, do not hold back; lift up thy voice like a shofar and preach to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sin.

¹ ¶ Blow the shofar in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain; let all the inhabitants of the earth tremble for the day of the LORD comes, for it is near at hand;

⁶ And Moses sent them to the war; he sent a thousand of every tribe; and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, went to the war with the holy instruments, with the trumpets to blow in his hand.

⁴ And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven shofarot {or rams horns} of jubilee; and the seventh day ye shall go around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the shofarot. ⁵ And when they make a long sound of jubilee with the horn so that ye hear the voice of the shofar, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat; then the people shall ascend up each man straight before him. ⁶ ¶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven shofarot of jubilee before the ark of the LORD. ⁷ And he said unto the people, Pass on and compass the city and let those that are armed pass on before the ark of the LORD. ⁸ And when Joshua had spoken unto the people, the seven priests bearing the seven shofarot of jubilee passed on before the LORD and blew with the shofarot; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them. ⁹ And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the shofarot, and the congregation came after the ark, the priests going on and blowing with the shofarot. ¹⁰ And Joshua commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, Shout; then ye shall shout. ¹¹ So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once; and they came into the camp and lodged in the camp. ¹² And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. ¹³ And the seven priests bearing the seven shofarot of jubilee before the ark of the LORD walked continually, and blew with the shofarot; and the armed men went before them; but the congregation came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on and blowing with the shofarot. ¹⁴ Likewise the second day they compassed the city once and returned into the camp; so they did for six days. ¹⁵ And on the seventh day they rose early about the dawning of the day and compassed the city after the same manner seven times; only on that day they compassed the city seven times. ¹⁶ And when the priests had blown the shofarot the seventh time, Joshua said unto the people, Shout, for the LORD has given you the city.

²⁴ And Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, Nethaneel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before the ark of God; and Obededom and Jehiah were also doorkeepers for the ark.

⁶ and Benaiah and Jahaziel, the priests, with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

¹² And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the LORD God of your fathers, for ye shall not prosper. ¹³ ¶ But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them. ¹⁴ So when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets. ¹⁵ Then the men of Judah gave a shout, and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

¹ ¶ And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark; and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters ceased;

⁵ And when they make a long sound of jubilee with the horn so that ye hear the voice of the shofar, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat; then the people shall ascend up each man straight before him.

¹⁸ And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of that judge; for the LORD repented because of their groanings by reason of those that oppressed them and afflicted them.

²⁷ And as he entered in, he blew the shofar in the mountain of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

² And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor, the captain of whose host was Sisera, and he dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles. ³ And the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron, and he had mightily oppressed the sons of Israel for twenty years.

⁹ I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all that oppressed you and drove them out from before you and gave you their land;

³⁴ And the Spirit of the LORD clothed himself in Gideon, who when he had blown the shofar, Abiezer joined with him.

¹⁶ ¶ And dividing the three hundred men into three companies, he put a shofar in each man’s hand with empty pitchers and torches burning within the pitchers. ¹⁷ And he said unto them, Look at me and do as I do; and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, as I do, so shall ye do. ¹⁸ I shall blow the shofar, I and all that are with me, then ye shall blow the shofarot on every side of all the camp, and say, I AM The Hewer! {YHWH-Gideon} ¹⁹ So Gideon and the hundred men that were with him came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch when only the guards were awake, and they blew the shofarot and broke the pitchers that were in their hands. ²⁰ And the three companies blew the shofarot; and breaking the pitchers, they held the torches in their left hands and the shofarot in their right hands to blow with; and they cried, The sword of I AM The Hewer! {YHWH-Gideon} ²¹ And they stood in their places round about the camp; and all the camp was routed, and they fled crying out.

⁸ who dashed in pieces and crushed the sons of Israel for eighteen years, all the sons of Israel that were on the other side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead.

¹² by those of Zidon, by Amalek, and by Maon, and ye cried to me and I delivered you out of their hands?

¹⁸ and said unto the sons of Israel, Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, I brought up Israel out of Egypt and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all kingdoms and of those that oppressed you.

¹⁴ So when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

⁴ Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou dost bear unto thy people; O visit me with thy saving health,

⁴² Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

²³ ¶ Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endures for ever:

³ All ye inhabitants of the world and neighbours of the land, when he lifts up a banner as an example on the mountains, ye shall see it; and when he blows the shofar, ye shall hear it.

¹⁹ ¶ My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the shofar, the alarm of war.

²¹ How long shall I see the banner and hear the voice of the shofar?

¹ ¶ O ye sons of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem and blow the shofar in Tekoa and set up as a sign smoke in Bethhaccerem; for evil appears out of the north wind and great destruction.

¹⁷ Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the shofar. But they said, We will not hearken.

¹⁴ They shall blow the trumpet and make everything ready, but there shall be no one to go forth to the battle, for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

³ and he should see the sword coming upon the land, if he should blow the shofar, and warn the people, ⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the shofar and does not take warning; and the coming of the sword should take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. ⁵ He heard the sound of the shofar and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul. ⁶ But if the watchman should see the sword coming and not blow the shofar and the people not be warned, if the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away because of his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

⁸ ¶ Blow ye the shofar in Gibeah and the trumpet in Ramah; sound the drum in Bethaven; after thee, O Benjamin.

⁶ Shall the shofar be blown in the city and the people not be afraid? Shall there be any evil in the city which the LORD has not done?

¹⁶ A day of the shofar and alarm upon the strong cities, and upon the high towers.

⁷⁰ as he spoke by the mouth of the saints who from the beginning were his prophets; ⁷¹ salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all that hate us; ⁷² to fulfill mercy unto our fathers and remembering his holy covenant ⁷³ of the oath which he made to our father Abraham, ⁷⁴ that he would grant unto us, that without fear delivered out of the hand of our enemies, we might serve him

⁸ For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

²⁹ And Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the pectoral of judgment upon his heart when he goes in unto the sanctuary for a memorial before the LORD continually.

¹⁶ And thou shalt take the reconciliation money of the sons of Israel and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the testimony, and it shall be a memorial unto the sons of Israel before the LORD to reconcile your souls.

²⁴ Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, In the seventh month in the first day of the month, ye shall have a rest, an alarm for a reminder, and a holy convocation.

⁹ Then shalt thou cause the shofar to sound an alarm on the tenth day of the seventh month; in the day of the reconciliations shall ye cause the shofar to sound throughout all your land. ¹⁰ And ye shall sanctify the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof; it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every one unto his possession, and ye shall return each one unto his family.

⁹ And when ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresses you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

¹ ¶ And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have a holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work; it is a day of sounding an alarm unto you.

⁷ Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the sons of Israel for ever.

²⁸ Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting and with sound of the shofar and with trumpets and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

⁴² And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals to sound, and with other musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.

¹² and the Levite singers, all of those of Asaph, those of Heman, and those of Jeduthun, together with their sons and their brethren, being clothed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets). ¹³ And they sounded the trumpets and sang with one voice, all together as one man praising and thanking the LORD, when they lifted up their voice with trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, when they praised the LORD, saying, For he is good, for his mercy endures for ever; and the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD,

⁶ And the priests were upon their watches, and the Levites with the instruments of music of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endures for ever, when David praised by their hand. Likewise, the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel was on their feet.

²⁶ And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

²⁸ And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpets sounded; and all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.

¹⁰ And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David, king of Israel.

³⁵ and certain of the priests’ sons with trumpets: namely, Zechariah, the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph;

⁵ Sing praises unto the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the voice of a song. ⁶ With trumpets and the sound of the shofar make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

³ Praise him with the sound of the shofar; praise him with the psaltery and harp.

¹³ And it shall come to pass in that day that the great shofar shall be blown, and those who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria and the outcasts in the land of Egypt shall come and worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

¹ ¶ Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which does not satisfy? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an eternal covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. ⁴ Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a captain and teacher to the peoples.

²⁸ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

⁴ And when he looked on him, he was afraid and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms {lit. thine acts of mercy} are come up for a memorial before God.

²⁴ and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me. ²⁵ After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood; do this each time that ye drink, in remembrance of me. ²⁶ For each time that ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye declare the Lord’s death until he comes.

⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised without corruption, and we shall be changed.

¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first;

¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is thirsty come; and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.

² In the day of the first month, the first of the month shalt thou set up the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony.

¹⁷ And it came to pass in the first month in the second year on the first day of the month that the tabernacle was raised up.

⁵ And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month between the two evenings in the wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the sons of Israel.

¹¹ The fourteenth day of the second month, between the two evenings they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

¹⁷ And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the sons of Israel journeyed; and in the place where the cloud abode, there the sons of Israel pitched their tents. ¹⁸ At the commandment of the LORD the sons of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched camp; as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle, they rested. ¹⁹ And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the sons of Israel kept the charge of the LORD and did not journey. ²⁰ And so it was, when the cloud was a determined number of days upon the tabernacle, according to the commandment of the LORD they camped, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed. ²¹ And so it was that when the cloud remained from evening unto the morning, and in the morning the cloud was taken up, then they journeyed; or if it had remained during the day and the cloud was taken up by night, they journeyed. ²² Or if it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the sons of Israel camped and did not journey; but when it was taken up, they journeyed. ²³ At the commandment of the LORD they camped, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed, keeping the charge of the LORD, as the LORD had said by the hand of Moses.

²¹ And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

²⁰ And they took their journey from Succoth and encamped in Etham in the edge of the wilderness.

¹ ¶ In the third month from when the sons of Israel had gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. ² For they had departed from Rephidim and were come to the desert of Sinai and had pitched in the wilderness, and there Israel camped before the mount.

³⁶ And when the cloud lifted itself up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel went onward in all their journeys; ³⁷ but if the cloud did not lift itself up, then they did not journey until the day that it lifted itself up.

¹⁶ And afterward he moved the people from Hazeroth, and they pitched camp in the wilderness of Paran.

³ And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran; all those men were princes of the sons of Israel.

²⁶ ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

¹⁵ And they departed from Rephidim and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai. ¹⁶ And they removed from the desert of Sinai and pitched at Kibrothhattaavah.

¹ ¶ These are the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel on this side of the Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

¹⁹ ¶ And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorite, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.

² And he said, The LORD came from Sinai and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from Mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of holiness, at his right hand the law of fire for them.

¹ ¶ And Samuel died, and all Israel gathered together and lamented him and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

³ ¶ God shall come from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was filled with his praise.

²³ At the commandment of the LORD they camped, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed, keeping the charge of the LORD, as the LORD had said by the hand of Moses.

⁶ The LORD our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount;

⁸ ¶ Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise; thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s sons shall bow down before thee.

⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab;

¹² And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah.

¹⁹ The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ And the sons of Judah by their families: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Pharez, the family of the Pharzites; of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites. ²¹ And the sons of Pharez: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites. ²² These are the families of Judah according to those numbered, seventy-six thousand five hundred. ²³ The sons of Issachar by their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Pua, the family of the Punites; ²⁴ of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites. ²⁵ These are the families of Issachar according to those numbered, sixty-four thousand three hundred. ²⁶ The sons of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Sardites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites. ²⁷ These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those numbered, sixty thousand five hundred.

⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar;

¹⁸ On the second day Nethaneel, the son of Zuar, prince of Issachar, offered.

⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon;

²⁴ On the third day Eliab, the son of Helon, prince of the sons of Zebulun.

⁵¹ And when the tabernacle departs, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

²⁵ And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the testimony shall be the tabernacle and the tent, the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, ²⁶ and the hangings of the court and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.

³⁶ And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and the sockets thereof and all the instruments thereof, with all its service, ³⁷ and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords.

²¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ²² Take also the sum of the sons of Gershon, throughout the houses of their fathers, by their families; ²³ from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old shalt thou number them, all that enter in to the host to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ²⁴ This shall be the service of the families of Gershon, to minister and to bear burdens: ²⁵ They shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle and the tabernacle of the testimony, its covering, and the covering of badgers’ skins that is over it above and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the testimony ²⁶ and the hangings of the court and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords and all the instruments of their service and all that is made for them; so shall they serve. ²⁷ According to the word of Aaron and his sons shall be all the ministry of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens and in all their service; and ye shall appoint unto them in charge all their burdens. ²⁸ This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the testimony, and their charge shall be under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest. ²⁹ As for the sons of Merari, thou shalt number them after their families, by the houses of their fathers. ³⁰ From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old shalt thou number them, all that enters into the host, to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ³¹ And this shall be the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tabernacle of the testimony: the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and sockets thereof, ³² and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords with all their instruments and with all their service; and ye shall number by name the vessels of the charge of their burden. ³³ This shall be the service of the families of the sons of Merari for all their ministry, in the tabernacle of the testimony, under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest.

⁶ Then Moses received the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites. ⁷ Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their ministry; ⁸ and four wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according to their ministry, under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest.

¹¹ But Christ being now come, high priest of the good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,

²⁸ Therefore, receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us hold fast to the grace, by which we serve God, pleasing him with reverence and godly fear:

¹⁴ knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has declared unto me.

⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur;

³⁵ and for a sacrifice of peace: two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Elizur, the son of Shedeur.

⁵ ¶ Reuben, firstborn of Israel; the sons of Reuben: Enoch, of whom was the family of the Enochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites; ⁶ of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites. ⁷ These are the families of the Reubenites; and those numbered were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty. ⁸ And the sons of Pallu: Eliab. ⁹ And the sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram, who were famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD. ¹⁰ And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men and they became an example. ¹¹ Notwithstanding the sons of Korah did not die. ¹² The sons of Simeon by their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites; ¹³ of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites; of Saul, the family of the Shaulites. ¹⁴ These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty-two thousand two hundred. ¹⁵ The sons of Gad by their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites; ¹⁶ of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites; ¹⁷ of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites. ¹⁸ These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those numbered, forty thousand five hundred.

⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai;

³⁶ On the fifth day Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, prince of the sons of Simeon.

¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Deuel;

¹⁴ And the tribe of Gad and the prince of the sons of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Reuel.

⁴² On the sixth day Eliasaph the son of Deuel, prince of the sons of Gad.

¹⁷ Then shall set forward the tabernacle of the testimony, the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps, in the manner that they encamp, so shall they set forward, each one in his place by their standards.

²⁷ And of Kohath was the family of Amram and the family of Izehar and the family of Hebron and the family of Uzziel; these are the families of the Kohathites. ²⁸ In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. ²⁹ The families of the sons of Kohath shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle towards the Negev; ³⁰ and the prince of the house of the father of the families of Kohath, Elizaphan, son of Uzziel. ³¹ And their charge shall be the ark and the table and the lampstand and the altars and the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the veil, with all its service. ³² And Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be principal over the princes of the Levites and have the oversight of those that keep the charge of the sanctuary.

⁴ This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony, in the holy of holies: ⁵ When the camp is to be moved, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of testimony with it ⁶ and shall put thereon the covering of badgers’ skins and shall spread over it a cloth entirely of blue and shall put in the staves thereof. ⁷ And upon the table of showbread they shall spread a cloth of blue and put thereon the dishes and the spoons and the bowls and covers to cover withal; and the continual bread shall be thereon. ⁸ And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put in the staves thereof. ⁹ And they shall take a cloth of blue and cover the lampstand of the light and its lamps and its tongs and its snuffdishes and all the oil vessels thereof with which they minister unto it; ¹⁰ and they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put it upon a bar. ¹¹ And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue and cover it with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put in the staves thereof; ¹² and they shall take all the vessels of ministry with which they minister in the sanctuary and put them in a cloth of blue and cover them with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put them on a bar. ¹³ And they shall take away the ashes with the burnt fat from the altar and spread a purple cloth thereon ¹⁴ and they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof with which they minister about it: the censers, the fleshhooks, the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers’ skins and put in the staves of it. ¹⁵ And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary and all the vessels of the sanctuary when the camp is to set forward, after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it, but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹⁶ But unto the care of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be the oil of the light and the aromatic incense and the daily present and the anointing oil and the care of all the tabernacle and of all that is therein, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof.

²⁰ They shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die.

⁹ But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none; because the ministry of the sanctuary belonging unto them was that they should bear upon their shoulders.

¹⁷ And the tabernacle was already taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle.

² Then David said, The ark of God should not be brought except by the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister unto him perpetually.

¹² and said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers among the Levites; sanctify yourselves and your brethren and bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it, ¹³ for because ye did not do it thus at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us because we did not seek him according to his ordinance. ¹⁴ So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the sons of the Levites bore the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LORD.

¹⁹ And his father refused and said, I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of Gentiles.

¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur;

¹⁸ The standard of the camp of Ephraim by his hosts, on the west and the prince of the sons of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud. ¹⁹ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand five hundred. ²⁰ By him shall be the tribe of Manasseh and the prince of the sons of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur. ²¹ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were thirty-two thousand two hundred. ²² And the tribe of Benjamin and the prince of the sons of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni. ²³ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were thirty-five thousand four hundred. ²⁴ All that were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand one hundred, by their hosts. And they shall go forward third.

⁴⁸ On the seventh day Elishama, the son of Ammihud, prince of the sons of Ephraim.

These are the sons of Joseph by their families. ³⁸ The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites; ³⁹ of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites. ⁴⁰ And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites; and of Naaman, the family of the Naamites. ⁴¹ These are the sons of Benjamin by their families: and those numbered were forty-five thousand six hundred.

A testimony of Asaph: A Psalm. ¶ Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubim, shine forth. ² In the presence of Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength and come and save us.

⁵⁴ On the eighth day Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur, prince of the sons of Manasseh.

¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni;

⁶⁰ On the ninth day Abidan, the son of Gideoni, prince of the sons of Benjamin.

¹⁶ Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

¹² of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai;

²⁵ The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the Aquilon by their hosts and the prince of the sons of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai. ²⁶ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred. ²⁷ Next to him shall camp those of the tribe of Asher and the prince of the sons of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran. ²⁸ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty-one thousand five hundred. ²⁹ And the tribe of Naphtali and the prince of the sons of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan. ³⁰ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were fifty-three thousand four hundred. ³¹ All those that were numbered in the camp of Dan were one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They shall go last behind their standards.

⁶⁶ On the tenth day Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai, prince of the sons of Dan.

⁴² These are the sons of Dan by their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan by their families. ⁴³ All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those numbered, were sixty-four thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ The sons of Asher after their families: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites; of Jesui, the family of the Jesuites; of Beriah, the family of the Beriites. ⁴⁵ Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites. ⁴⁶ And the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah. ⁴⁷ These are the families of the sons of Asher according to those numbered; fifty-three thousand four hundred. ⁴⁸ Of the sons of Naphtali by their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites; ⁴⁹ of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites. ⁵⁰ These are the families of Naphtali by their families; and those numbered were forty-five thousand four hundred. ⁵¹ These are the numbered of the sons of Israel, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.

¹⁷ Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way when ye were come forth out of Egypt, ¹⁸ how he met thee by the way and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary and he did not fear God.

⁹ And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the shofarot, and the congregation came after the ark, the priests going on and blowing with the shofarot.

¹² For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will gather you together.

⁸ ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall gather thee.

⁷² On the eleventh day Pagiel, the son of Ocran, prince of the sons of Asher.

³⁴ And the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses; so they pitched by their standards, and so they marched, each one after their families, according to the houses of their fathers.

³⁵ And it came to pass, when the ark was moved, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered, and let those that hate thee flee before thee. ³⁶ And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of Israel.

⁴ he who has heard the words of God has said, who saw the vision of the Almighty, fallen, but having his eyes open: ⁵ How beautiful are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy habitations, O Israel!

¹⁰ Who is she that shows herself forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and imposing as the standard-bearer of the army?

³³ For God is not the God of disorder, but of peace, as in all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the saints.

⁴⁰ But let all things be done decently and in order.

⁵ For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

⁷ And the LORD appeared unto Abram and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land, and there he built an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

¹⁵ for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed for ever.

¹⁸ In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed shall I give this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

¹² And thou hast said, I will surely do thee good and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

¹⁸ And when they returned unto Reuel, their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon today?

¹ ¶ Now as Moses shepherded the sheep of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good and broad land, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the places of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

⁷ And I will take you as my people, and I will be your God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. ⁸ And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning which I raised my hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it unto you for a heritage: I am the LORD.

¹ ¶ When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard of all that God had done with Moses and with Israel his people and how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt,

²⁷ And Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went to his own land.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent; he said and shall he not do it? He spoke and shall he not execute it?

¹⁶ And the sons of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the sons of Judah into the wilderness of Judah which is towards the Negev of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

¹¹ Now Heber, the Kenite, of the sons of Hobab, the father-in-law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

⁶ And Saul said unto the Kenite, Go, depart, go out from among those of Amalek lest I destroy you with them, for ye showed mercy to all the sons of Israel when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenite departed from among those of Amalek.

⁸ Cheth O taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man that shall trust in him.

³ And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths; for out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion, unto where they shall turn their faces, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in an eternal covenant that shall never be forgotten.

²¹ and the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go to pray before the LORD and to seek the LORD of the hosts. And the other will respond: I will go also. ²² And many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of the hosts in Jerusalem and to pray before the LORD. ²³ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, In those days it shall come to pass that ten men of all the languages of the Gentiles shall take hold of the robe of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

⁵ And he gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on; yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

² for the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the times of the ages

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us,

¹ ¶ But the LORD had said unto Abram, Depart out of thy country and from thy nature and from thy father’s house unto a land that I will show thee;

³⁰ And now, that thou art leaving, because thy desire is after thy father’s house, yet why hast thou stolen my gods?

¹⁵ And she said, Behold, thy sister-in-law has returned to her people and to her gods; return thou after thy sister-in-law. ¹⁶ And Ruth said, Do not intreat me to leave thee or to return from following after thee, for wherever thou goest, I will go; and wherever thou shalt lodge, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people and thy God my God. ¹⁷ Where thou diest, I will die, and there will I be buried; let the LORD do so unto me and let him give unto me that only death shall part thee and me.

¹⁰ ¶ Hearken, O daughter, and consider and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;

²⁹ He answered and said, I will not, but afterward he repented and went.

²⁶ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

¹⁶ ¶ Therefore from now on we know no one according to the flesh: and even if we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him no longer.

⁸ By faith Abraham, being called, hearkened to go out into the place which he should afterwards receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he went.

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but seeing them afar off and believing them and embracing them and confessing that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.

⁸ I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will fix mine eyes upon thee.

¹⁴ For the body is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot shall say, Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁶ And if the ear shall say, Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be? ¹⁸ But now God has set the members each one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. ¹⁹ And if they were all one member, where would the body be? ²⁰ But now they are indeed many members, yet but one body. ²¹ And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee; nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

² Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of the Christ.

¹⁸ he executes the rights of the fatherless and the widow and also loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee. ²⁸ For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and he shall have dominion over the Gentiles. ²⁹ All those that are fat upon earth shall eat and worship; all those that go down to the dust shall bow before him; and no one can keep his own soul alive. ³⁰ A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. ³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he has done this.

⁵ Let the peoples praise thee, O God; let all the peoples praise thee. ⁶ Then shall the earth bring forth her fruit, and God, even our own God, shall bless us. ⁷ God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

³ that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that ye also may have communion with us; and truly our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

³ And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel:

¹⁷ And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the sons of Israel. ¹⁸ And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mount, and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

¹⁴ And he said, My presence {Heb. faces} shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. ¹⁵ And he said unto him, If thy presence {Heb. faces} is not to go before us, do not bring us out of here.

¹² And the sons of Israel moved out of the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.

³³ who went in the way before you to search you out a place to pitch your tents, with fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and with a cloud by day.

⁹ When I climbed up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, without eating bread or drinking water;

²⁶ Take this book of the law and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God that it may be there for a witness against thee.

² And after three days, the officers went through the camp, ³ and they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place and go after it. ⁴ Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure; do not come near unto it that ye may know the way by which ye must go; for ye have not passed this way before now. ⁵ And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you. ⁶ And Joshua spoke unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant and pass before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.

¹¹ Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passes the Jordan before you. ¹² Now, therefore, take twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of each tribe a man. ¹³ And when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off; for the waters that come down from above shall stand in a heap. ¹⁴ ¶ And it came to pass when the people removed from their tents to pass the Jordan and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, ¹⁵ when those that bore the ark entered into the Jordan, as soon as the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water (for Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest), ¹⁶ that the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far from the city of Adam, that is beside Zaretan; and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed and were cut off; and the people passed over right against Jericho. ¹⁷ But the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan until all the people finished passing the Jordan; and all Israel passed on dry ground.

²⁷ And the sons of Israel enquired of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

³ And when the people returned into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has the LORD smitten us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us that when it comes among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.

¹¹ unto whom I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

¹² To whom he said, This is the rest with which ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

¹ ¶ Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where shall remain this house that ye built unto me? and where shall remain this place of my rest?

¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied and increased in the land; in those days, said the LORD, they shall no longer say, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

¹⁶ Thus hath the LORD said, Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where the good way is and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

⁸ Behold, I turn them from the land of the north wind and gather them from the coasts of the earth; there shall be blind and lame among them, and women with child and those that travail with child together; a great company shall return there. ⁹ They shall come with weeping, but with mercies I will cause them to return; I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, in which they shall not stumble; for I shall be a father to Israel, and Ephraim shall be my firstborn.

⁶ in the day that I lifted up my hand unto them with an oath that I would bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had prepared for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the most beautiful of all lands,

²⁸ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

³ (For we who have believed do enter into the rest) as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, they shall not enter into my rest although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. ⁴ For he spoke in a certain place of the seventh day like this, And God rested the seventh day from all his works. ⁵ And in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest. ⁶ Seeing, therefore, it remains that some must enter therein, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter in because of disobedience; ⁷ Again, he determines a certain day, saying, Today, by David so long a time afterward; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. ⁸ For if Jesus {Joshua in Heb.} had given them rest, then he would not afterward have spoken of another day. ⁹ There remains therefore a rest {Gr. Sabbatismos} for the people of God. ¹⁰ For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. ¹¹ ¶ Let us therefore make haste to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.

²⁰ Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal testament, ²¹ And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them in the way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light that they might walk by day and by night. ²² He never took away the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

¹⁵ ¶ And on the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud covered the tabernacle over the tent of the testimony; and in the evening there was upon the tabernacle, as it were, the appearance of fire until the morning. ¹⁶ So it was always: the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night.

¹² Moreover, thou didst lead them by day with a pillar of cloud and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light in the way by which they should go.

¹⁹ yet thou in thy manifold mercies didst not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither did the pillar of fire by night, to illuminate the way in which they should go.

³⁹ He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light in the night.

¹⁰ and repays him that hates him to his face, to destroy him; he will not be slack to him that hates him; he will repay him to his face.

⁴¹ if I whet the resplendence of my sword and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will render vengeance to my enemies and will recompense those that hate me.

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm or Song of David. ¶ Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered; let those that hate him flee before him. ² As smoke is driven away; so drive them away: as wax melts before the fire, so shall the wicked perish at the presence of God.

⁸ Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

¹² ¶ Woe to the multitude of many peoples, which shall make a noise like the noise of the sea; and the rushing of nations, that make an uprising like the rushing of mighty waters! ¹³ The peoples shall make noise like the rushing of great waters, but God shall reprehend them, and they shall flee far off and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind and like the tumbleweed before the whirlwind. ¹⁴ And behold at eveningtide trouble, and before the morning she is not. This is the portion of them that tread on us and the lot of them that spoil us.

⁹ ¶ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in ages past. Art thou not he who cut off the proud one, and he who smote the dragon?

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said unto her, Thou art our sister; be thou the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let thy seed possess the gate of those who hate them.

¹⁰ the LORD your God has multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

¹³ Return unto us, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy slaves. ¹⁴ O satisfy us early with thy mercy, and we shall sing and be glad all our days. ¹⁵ Make us glad according to the days in which thou hast afflicted us and the years in which we have seen evil. ¹⁶ Let thy work appear in thy slaves and thy glory upon their sons. ¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and set thou aright the work of our hands upon us; yea, set thou aright the work of our hands.

¹⁷ O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways? Hast thou hardened our heart to thy fear? Return for thy slaves, for the tribes of thine inheritance.
