THE FALL OF BABEL
Descend, and sit in the dust; O virgin daughter of Babel, sit on the earth; there is no throne, O daughter of the Kesediym: for you add not to be called tender and delicate.

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate among you, who tests not to set the sole of her foot on the earth because of delicateness and tenderness, her eye becomes evil toward the man of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter ⁵⁷ and toward her fetus coming from between her feet and toward the sons she births: for she eats them covertly for lack of all in the siege and distress, wherewith your enemies distress you in your portals.

⁸ And he takes a potsherd to scrape himself; and he settles among the ashes.

¹³ and they settle with him on the ground seven days and seven nights - and no one words a word to him; for they see the pain is mighty great.

²⁷ For you save the humble people and abase the lofted eye.

RELAXED WOMEN AND CONFIDENT DAUGHTERS
Rise up, you relaxed women; hear my voice, you confident daughters; hearken to my saying, ¹⁰ Many days and years you quiver - you confide: for the crop is finished off; the ingathering comes not. ¹¹ Tremble, you relaxed women; quiver, you who confide: strip, and strip bare with a girdle on the loins.

²² this is the word Yah Veh words concerning him: The virgin, the daughter of Siyon, despises you, ridicules you; the daughter of Yeru Shalem shakes her head behind you.

¹⁸ Say to the sovereign and to the lady, Abase! Sit! - for your headships descend - even the crown of your adornment.

¹¹ Ascend into Gilad, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Misrayim: you abound your healers in vain for they bandage you not.

¹⁸ You, daughter who settles in Dibon, descend from your honor, and settle in thirst; for the ravager of Moab ascends on you; he ruins your fortresses.

⁴² they hold the bow and the dart; they are cruel, and mercy not: their voice roars as the sea and they ride on horses - lined up against you, O daughter of Babel, as a man to the war.

³³ For thus says Yah Veh Sabaoth Elohim of Yisra El: The daughter of Babel is as a threshingfloor; it is time to tread her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest comes.

¹⁰ the elders of the daughter of Siyon settle on the earth and hush; they ascend dust on their heads; they girt themselves with saq; the virgins of Yeru Shalem lower their heads to the earth.

²¹ The lad and the aged lie on the earth in the outways; my virgins and my young men fall by the sword; you slaughter them in the day of your wrath - slaughter and spare not.

⁵ they who ate delicately desolate in the outways; those entrusted with scarlet embrace dunghills.

¹⁶ And all the hierarchs of the sea descend from their thrones and turn aside their mantles; they strip their clothes of embroidery and enrobe themselves with trembling; they sit on the earth and tremble in a blink and astonish at you:

¹⁷ your heart is haughty because of your beauty; you ruin your wisdom because of your splendor: I cast you to the earth; I give you at the face of sovereigns so that they see you:

³ the arrogance of your heart deceives you - you who tabernacle in the clefts of the rock; whose settlement is high; he says in his heart, Who descends me to the earth? ⁴ Though you heighten as the eagle and though you set your nest among the stars, I descend you from there - an oracle of Yah Veh.

⁶ And word touches to the sovereign of Nineveh; and he rises from his throne and passes his mighty mantle from him and covers himself with saq and sits in ashes:

²² and I overturn the throne of sovereigndoms; and I desolate the strength of the sovereigndoms of the goyim; and I overturn the chariots and their riders: and the horses and their riders topple - every man by the sword of his brother.

⁷ Rescue yourself, Ho, Siyon, who settles with the daughter of Babel.

⁷ as much as she glorifies herself and luxuriates so much torture and mourning give her: because she words in her heart, I sit a sovereigness and am no widow and never no way see mourning.
