¹³ There are those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

¹¹ My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside. ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

⁴⁷ But that bondman who knew his own lord`s will, and had not prepared [himself] nor done his will, shall be beaten with many [stripes]; ⁴⁸ but he who knew [it] not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. And to every one to whom much has been given, much shall be required from him; and to whom [men] have committed much, they will ask from him the more.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light; for their works were evil. ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light that his works may not be shewn as they are;

³¹ Jesus therefore said to the Jews who believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye are truly my disciples;

⁴⁴ Ye are of the devil, as [your] father, and ye desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks falsehood, he speaks of what is his own; for he is a liar and its father:

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment am I come into this world, that they which see not may see, and they which see may become blind. ⁴⁰ And [some] of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If ye were blind ye would not have sin; but now ye say, We see, your sin remains.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while is the light amongst you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you. And he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.

⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they may not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart and be converted, and I should heal them.

⁶ Unless any one abide in me he is cast out as the branch, and is dried up; and they gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He that hates me hates also my Father. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other one has done, they had not had sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

³² who knowing the righteous judgment of God, that they who do such things are worthy of death, not only practise them, but have fellow delight in those who do [them].

¹⁷ But if *thou* art named a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast in God, ¹⁸ and knowest the will, and discerningly approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; ¹⁹ and hast confidence that thou thyself art a leader of the blind, a light of those who [are] in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and of truth in the law: ²¹ thou then that teachest another, dost thou not teach thyself? thou that preachest not to steal, dost thou steal? ²² thou that sayest [man should] not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? ²³ thou who boastest in law, dost thou by transgression of the law dishonour God? ²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed on your account among the nations, according as it is written.

¹¹ there is not the [man] that understands, there is not one that seeks after God. ¹² All have gone out of the way, they have together become unprofitable; there is not one that practises goodness, there is not so much as one: ¹³ their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; asps` poison [is] under their lips: ¹⁴ whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; ¹⁵ swift their feet to shed blood; ¹⁶ ruin and misery [are] in their ways, ¹⁷ and way of peace they have not known:

¹⁰ and in all deceit of unrighteousness to them that perish, because they have not received the love of the truth that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God sends to them a working of error, that they should believe what is false, ¹² that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹⁷ To him therefore who knows how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.

²⁰ For if after having escaped the pollutions of the world through [the] knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, again entangled, they are subdued by these, their last state is worse than the first. ²¹ For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known [it] to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But that [word] of the true proverb has happened to them: [The] dog [has] turned back to his own vomit; and, [The] washed sow to [her] rolling in mud.

¹⁹ They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have surely remained with us, but that they might be made manifest that none are of us.

⁶ And angels who had not kept their own original state, but had abandoned their own dwelling, he keeps in eternal chains under gloomy darkness, to [the] judgment of [the] great day;
