¹ And Job answered and said, ² Even to-day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. ³ Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat! ⁴ I would order the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments; ⁵ I would know the words he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. ⁶ Would he plead against me with [his] great power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me. ⁷ There would an upright man reason with him; and I should be delivered for ever from my judge. ⁸ Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him; ⁹ On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold [him] not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see [him] not. ¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold. ¹¹ My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside. ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart. ¹³ But he is in one [mind], and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do. ¹⁴ For he will perform [what] is appointed for me; and many such things are with him. ¹⁵ Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him. ¹⁶ For ?God hath made my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me; ¹⁷ Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.

¹⁹ For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice, in order that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham what he hath spoken of him.

²⁵ Far be it from thee to do so, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous should be as the wicked -- far be it from thee! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right? ²⁶ And Jehovah said, If I find at Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will forgive all the place for their sakes. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak unto the Lord; I, who am dust and ashes. ²⁸ Perhaps there may want five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city on account of the five? And he said, If I shall find forty-five there, I will not destroy [it]. ²⁹ And he continued yet to speak with him, and said, Perhaps there may be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty`s sake. <sup>30</sup> And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry that I speak! Perhaps there may be thirty found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there. <sup>31</sup> And he said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak with the Lord. Perhaps there may be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the twenty`s sake. ³² And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, that I speak yet but this time! Perhaps there may be ten found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the ten`s sake.

¹² And thou saidst, I will certainly deal well with thee, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

¹² Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, For misfortune he has brought them out, to slay them on the mountains, and to annihilate them from the face of the earth? Turn from the heat of thine anger, and repent of this evil against thy people! ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou sworest by thyself, and saidst to them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give to your seed, and they shall possess [it] for ever!

¹³ And Moses said to Jehovah, Then the Egyptians will hear it; for in thy might thou broughtest up this people from the midst of them; ¹⁴ and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land, [who] have heard that thou, Jehovah, art in the midst of this people, that thou, Jehovah, lettest thyself be seen eye to eye, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night; ¹⁵ if thou now slayest this people as one man, then the nations that have heard thy fame will speak, saying, ¹⁶ Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land that he had sworn unto them, he has therefore slain them in the wilderness. ¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, ¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in goodness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but by no means clearing [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and fourth [generation]. ¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy loving-kindness, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

¹⁹ ?God is not a man, that he should lie; neither a son of man, that he should repent. Shall he say and not do? and shall he speak and not make it good? ²⁰ Behold, I have received [mission] to bless; and he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

² And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.

³ and shall say unto them, Hear, Israel, ye are approaching this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be afraid of them;

²⁰ And she said to them, Call me not Naomi -- call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

² And now behold, the king walks before you; and I am old and grey-headed; and behold, my sons are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth up to this day. ³ Here I am: testify against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I injured? or of whose hand have I received any ransom and blinded mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it to you. ⁴ And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, and thou hast not injured us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man`s hand. ⁵ And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand! And [the people] said, [He is] witness!

³ Ah! Jehovah, remember, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept much.

²⁰ Therefore, behold, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil that I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

¹¹ But put forth thy hand now and touch all that he hath, [and see] if he will not curse thee to thy face! ¹² And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy hand; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.

⁵ but put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, [and see] if he will not curse thee to thy face! ⁶ And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand; only spare his life.

² Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; therefore my words are vehement.

⁹ And that it would please +God to crush me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off! ¹⁰ Then should I yet have comfort; and in the pain which spareth not I would rejoice that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

³ So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

¹¹ Therefore I will not restrain my mouth: I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

⁴ He is wise in heart and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and had peace?

¹¹ Lo, he goeth by me, and I see [him] not; and he passeth along, and I perceive him not. ¹² Behold, he taketh away: who will hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou? ¹³ +God withdraweth not his anger; the proud helpers stoop under him:

¹⁵ Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] would I not answer; I would make supplication to my judge.

¹⁹ Be it a question of strength, lo, [he is] strong; and be it of judgment, who will set me a time?

³³ There is not an umpire between us, who should lay his hand upon us both. ³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his terror make me afraid,

¹ My soul is weary of my life: I will give free course to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say unto +God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou strivest with me.

¹⁵ If I were wicked, woe unto me! and righteous, I will not lift up my head, being [so] full of shame, and beholding mine affliction; --

⁶ And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, how that they are the double of what is realised; and know that +God passeth by [much] of thine iniquity!

¹⁰ If he pass by, and shut up, and call to judgment, who can hinder him?

¹⁴ Behold, he breaketh down, and it is not built again; he shutteth up a man, and there is no opening.

³ But I will speak to the Almighty, and will find pleasure in reasoning with ?God;

¹⁸ Behold now, I have ordered the cause; I know that I shall be justified.

²¹ Withdraw thy hand far from me; and let not thy terror make me afraid: ²² Then call, and I will answer; or I will speak, and answer thou me. ²³ How many are mine iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

²² He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.

²¹ Oh that there were arbitration for a man with +God, as a son of man for his friend!

⁹ But the righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall increase in strength.

⁶ The light shall become dark in his tent, and his lamp over him shall be put out.

¹⁸ He is driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

⁸ He hath hedged up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

¹¹ Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and floods of waters cover thee.

²² Receive, I pray thee, instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat!

² [As] ?God liveth, who hath taken away my right, and the Almighty, who hath embittered my soul,

²³ For calamity from ?God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I was powerless.

³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my signature: let the Almighty answer me! And let mine opponent write an accusation! ³⁶ Would I not take it upon my shoulder? I would bind it on to me [as] a crown; ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I come near to him.

²⁹ When he giveth quietness, who then will disturb? and when he hideth [his] face, who shall behold him? and this towards a nation, or towards a man alike;

¹⁴ Although thou sayest thou dost not see him, judgment is before him, therefore wait for him.

¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say unto him! We cannot order [our words] by reason of darkness.

¹ And Jehovah answered Job and said, ² Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth +God, let him answer it. ³ And Job answered Jehovah and said, ⁴ Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.

² I know that thou canst do everything, and that thou canst be hindered in no thought of thine. ³ Who is he that obscureth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered what I did not understand; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. ⁴ Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and inform me. ⁵ I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now mine eye seeth thee:

⁶ For Jehovah knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

¹ Why, Jehovah, standest thou afar off? [Why] hidest thou thyself in times of distress?

¹ {To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} How long, Jehovah, wilt thou forget me for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, with sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? ³ Consider, answer me, O Jehovah my God! lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the [sleep of] death;

³ Thou hast proved my heart, thou hast visited me by night; thou hast tried me, thou hast found nothing: my thought goeth not beyond my word.

⁵ When thou holdest my goings in thy paths, my footsteps slip not.

²⁰ Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all his ordinances were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me; ²³ And I was upright with him, and kept myself from mine iniquity. ²⁴ And Jehovah hath recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

⁹ The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring for ever; the judgments of Jehovah are truth, they are righteous altogether: ¹⁰ They are more precious than gold, yea, than much fine gold; and sweeter than honey and the dropping of the honeycomb.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is become like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

¹¹ For thy name`s sake, O Jehovah, thou wilt indeed pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me; my moisture was turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

³ The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, to do good.

¹ Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; deliver me from the deceitful and unrighteous man.

¹⁸ Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path;

¹⁰ For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

² In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord: my hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not; my soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remembered God, and I moaned; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

¹⁹ Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths are in the great waters; and thy footsteps are not known.

¹⁶ Thy fierce anger hath gone over me; thy terrors have brought me to nought:

⁴⁶ How long, Jehovah, wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy fury burn like fire?

² Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.

³ But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he pleased.

¹¹ Thy ?word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.

¹⁰³ How sweet are thy ?words unto my taste! more than honey to my mouth!

¹²⁰ My flesh shuddereth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love thy commandments above gold, yea, above fine gold.

⁵ But as for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, Jehovah will lead them forth with the workers of iniquity. Peace be upon Israel!

⁶ Whatsoever Jehovah pleased, he hath done in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all deeps;

³ In the day when I called thou answeredst me; thou didst encourage me with strength in my soul.

²¹ Many are the thoughts in a man`s heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that doth stand.

¹⁵ That which is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.

¹⁴ I know that whatever God doeth, it shall be for ever; there is nothing to be added to it, nor anything to be taken from it; and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him.

¹⁸ Come now, let us reason together, saith Jehovah: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

⁵ And I said, Woe unto me! for I am undone; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁷ And I will wait for Jehovah, who hideth his face from the house of Jacob; and I will look for him.

²⁴ Jehovah of hosts hath sworn saying, Assuredly as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall stand: ²⁵ to break the Assyrian in my land; and upon my mountains will I tread him under foot; and his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. ²⁶ This is the counsel which is purposed concerning the whole earth; and this is the hand which is stretched out upon all the nations. ²⁷ For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall frustrate [it]? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

⁸ Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O Jehovah, have we waited for thee; the desire of [our] soul is to thy name, and to thy memorial.

⁴ Fury is not in me. Oh that I had briars [and] thorns in battle against me! I would march against them, I would burn them together.

⁸ In measure, when sending her away, didst thou contend with her: he hath taken [her] away with his rough wind in the day of the east wind.

²⁷ Why sayest thou, Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and my right is passed away from my God? ²⁸ Dost thou not know, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not nor tireth? There is no searching of his understanding.

²⁶ Put me in remembrance, let us plead together; rehearse thine own [cause], that thou mayest be justified.

¹⁵ Verily thou art a ?God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour. ...

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure;

⁶ Seek ye Jehovah while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹ The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from before the evil.

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls [which] I have made.

⁵ Will he keep [his anger] for ever? Will he preserve it perpetually? Behold, thou hast spoken and hast done evil things, and thou art [so] determined.

¹ Righteous art thou, Jehovah, when I plead with thee; yet will I speak with thee of [thy] judgments. Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? [wherefore] are all they at ease that deal very treacherously?

⁷ Jehovah, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou act for thy name`s sake; for our backslidings are many -- we have sinned against thee.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I did eat them, and thy words were unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by thy name, O Jehovah, God of hosts.

⁴⁶ lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; for a rumour shall come [one] year, and after that a rumour in [another] year, and violence in the earth, ruler against ruler.

¹⁹ Remember thou mine affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ My soul hath [them] constantly in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

³³ [As] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, verily with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, will I reign over you.

³⁵ and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of the heavens, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

¹⁸ Incline thine ear, O my God, and hear; open thine eyes and behold our desolations, and the city that is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee because of our righteousnesses, but because of thy manifold mercies. ¹⁹ Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, hearken and do! defer not, for thine own sake, O my God! for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

¹⁵ Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

⁹ Jehovah`s voice crieth unto the city, and wisdom looketh on thy name. Hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

¹⁶ I heard, and my belly trembled; My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my place, That I might rest in the day of distress, When their invader shall come up against the people.

⁶ and them that turn back from after Jehovah, and that do not seek Jehovah, nor inquire for him.

⁹ And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will answer them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

² But who shall endure the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he will be like a refiner`s fire, and like fullers` lye. ³ And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver; and he will purify the children of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver; and they shall offer unto Jehovah an oblation in righteousness.

¹³ But those upon the rock, those who when they hear receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a time, and in time of trial fall away. ¹⁴ But that that fell where the thorns were, these are they who having heard go away and are choked under cares and riches and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to perfection. ¹⁵ But that in the good ground, these are they who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and prudent steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give the measure of corn in season?

⁴⁶ the lord of that bondman shall come in a day when he does not expect it, and in an hour he knows not of, and shall cut him in two and appoint his portion with the unbelievers.

³² But he said to them, I have food to eat which ye do not know.

³⁴ Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.

⁶⁶ From that [time] many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away? ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal; ⁶⁹ and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.

³¹ Jesus therefore said to the Jews who believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye are truly my disciples;

¹⁷ He says to him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, art thou attached to me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Art thou attached to me? and said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.

²² establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to abide in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁸ And when they were come to him, he said to them, *Ye* know how I was with you all the time from the first day that I arrived in Asia, ¹⁹ serving the Lord with all lowliness, and tears, and temptations, which happened to me through the plots of the Jews;

³³ I have coveted [the] silver or gold or clothing of no one. ³⁴ Yourselves know that these hands have ministered to my wants, and to those who were with me.

⁷ to them who, in patient continuance of good works, seek for glory and honour and incorruptibility, life eternal.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the things the law says, it speaks to those under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be under judgment to God. ²⁰ Wherefore by works of law no flesh shall be justified before him; for by law [is] knowledge of sin. ²¹ But now without law righteousness of God is manifested, borne witness to by the law and the prophets; ²² righteousness of God by faith of Jesus Christ towards all, and upon all those who believe: for there is no difference;

¹ [There is] then now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.

³³ Who shall bring an accusation against God`s elect? [It is] God who justifies: ³⁴ who is he that condemns? [It is] Christ who has died, but rather has been [also] raised up; who is also at the right hand of God; who also intercedes for us.

¹⁹ Thou wilt say to me then, Why does he yet find fault? for who resists his purpose?

³³ O depth of riches both of [the] wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable his judgments, and untraceable his ways!

³ But for me it is the very smallest matter that I be examined of you or of man`s day. Nor do I even examine myself. ⁴ For I am conscious of nothing in myself; but I am not justified by this: but he that examines me is the Lord.

¹² For our boasting is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity before God, (not in fleshly wisdom but in God`s grace,) we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly towards you.

¹⁹ how that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their offences; and putting in us the word of that reconciliation. ²⁰ We are ambassadors therefore for Christ, God as [it were] beseeching by us, we entreat for Christ, Be reconciled to God.

⁹ And he said to me, My grace suffices thee; for [my] power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather boast in my weaknesses, that the power of the Christ may dwell upon me. ¹⁰ Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in insults, in necessities, in persecutions, in straits, for Christ: for when I am weak, then I am powerful.

⁹ having made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in himself ¹⁰ for [the] administration of the fulness of times; to head up all things in the Christ, the things in the heavens and the things upon the earth; in him, ¹¹ in whom we have also obtained an inheritance, being marked out beforehand according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his own will,

¹⁰ *Ye* [are] witnesses, and God, how piously and righteously and blamelessly we have conducted ourselves with you that believe:

³ that no one might be moved by these afflictions. (For yourselves know that we are set for this;

⁹ because God has not set us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁶ who only has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen, nor is able to see; to whom [be] honour and eternal might. Amen.

¹⁹ Yet the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, [The] Lord knows those that are his; and, Let every one who names the name of [the] Lord withdraw from iniquity.

⁶ Seeing therefore it remains that some enter into it, and those who first received the glad tidings did not enter in on account of not hearkening to the word,

³⁸ But the just shall live by faith; and, if he draw back, my soul does not take pleasure in him. ³⁹ But *we* are not drawers back to perdition, but of faith to saving [the] soul.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, [when] tried, offered up Isaac, and he who had received to himself the promises offered up his only begotten [son],

² Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into various temptations, ³ knowing that the proving of your faith works endurance. ⁴ But let endurance have [its] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

¹² Blessed [is the] man who endures temptation; for, having been proved, he shall receive the crown of life, which He has promised to them that love him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from above, from the Father of lights, with whom is no variation nor shadow of turning.

⁷ that the proving of your faith, much more precious than of gold which perishes, though it be proved by fire, be found to praise and glory and honour in [the] revelation of Jesus Christ:

² as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,

⁸ and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; [who] stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.

²⁰ For if after having escaped the pollutions of the world through [the] knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, again entangled, they are subdued by these, their last state is worse than the first. ²¹ For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known [it] to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But that [word] of the true proverb has happened to them: [The] dog [has] turned back to his own vomit; and, [The] washed sow to [her] rolling in mud.

¹⁹ They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have surely remained with us, but that they might be made manifest that none are of us.
