¹ Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God`s will, and the brother Timotheus, to the assembly of God which is in Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia. <sup>2</sup> Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ. <sup>3</sup> Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassions, and God of all encouragement; <sup>4</sup> who encourages us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to encourage those who are in any tribulation whatever, through the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged of God. <sup>5</sup> Because, even as the sufferings of the Christ abound towards us, so through the Christ does our encouragement also abound. <sup>6</sup> But whether we are in tribulation, [it is] for your encouragement and salvation, wrought in the endurance of the same sufferings which *we* also suffer, <sup>7</sup> (and our hope for you [is] sure;) or whether we are encouraged, [it is] for your encouragement and salvation: knowing that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also of the encouragement. <sup>8</sup> For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, as to our tribulation which happened [to us] in Asia, that we were excessively pressed beyond [our] power, so as to despair even of living. <sup>9</sup> But we ourselves had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not have our trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; <sup>10</sup> who has delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver; in whom we confide that he will also yet deliver; <sup>11</sup> ye also labouring together by supplication for us that the gift towards us, through means of many persons, may be the subject of the thanksgiving of many for us. <sup>12</sup> For our boasting is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity before God, (not in fleshly wisdom but in God`s grace,) we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly towards you. ¹³ For we do not write other things to you but what ye well know and recognise; and I hope that ye will recognise to the end, ¹⁴ even as also ye have recognised us in part, that we are your boast, even as *ye* [are] ours in the day of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁵ And with this confidence I purposed to come to you previously, that ye might have a second favour; ¹⁶ and to pass through to Macedonia by you, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be set forward by you to Judaea. ¹⁷ Having therefore this purpose, did I then use lightness? Or what I purpose, do I purpose according to flesh, that there should be with me yea yea, and nay nay? ¹⁸ Now God [is] faithful, that our word to you is not yea and nay. ¹⁹ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, he who has been preached by us among you (by me and Silvanus and Timotheus), did not become yea and nay, but yea *is* in him. ²⁰ For whatever promises of God [there are], in him is the yea, and in him the amen, for glory to God by us. ²¹ Now he that establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, [is] God, ²² who also has sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. ²³ But I call God to witness upon my soul that to spare you I have not yet come to Corinth. ²⁴ Not that we rule over your faith, but are fellow-workmen of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he shall crush thy head, and thou shalt crush his heel.

²⁰ And blessed be the Most High ?God, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him the tenth of all.

¹⁸ and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves, because thou hast hearkened to my voice.

³ And David swore again and again, and said, Thy father certainly knows that I have found favour in thy sight: and he has thought, Jonathan shall not know this, lest he be grieved; but truly [as] Jehovah liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.

¹ And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me to seek me any more within all the limits of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.

²⁰ Thou didst come yesterday, and should I this day make thee go up and down with us, seeing I go whither I can? Return and take back thy brethren. Mercy and truth be with thee!

¹⁸ And the Spirit came upon Amasai, the chief of the captains, [and he said,] Thine [are we], David, And with thee, thou son of Jesse: Peace, peace be to thee! And peace be to thy helpers! For thy God helps thee. And David received them, and made them chiefs of bands.

¹⁰ And David blessed Jehovah in the sight of all the congregation; and David said, Blessed be thou, Jehovah, the God of our father Israel, for ever and ever.

⁵ And the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah, said, Stand up, bless Jehovah your God from eternity to eternity. And let [men] bless the name of thy glory, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

²¹ and he said, Naked came I out of my mother`s womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah!

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole. ¹⁹ He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee. ²⁰ In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword. ²¹ Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh. ²² At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.

¹⁵ Behold, if he slay me, yet would I trust in him; but I will defend mine own ways before him.

¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold. ¹¹ My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside. ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.

⁵ Be it far from me that I should justify you; till I die I will not remove my blamelessness from me. ⁶ My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart reproacheth [me] not one of my days.

¹ I made a covenant with mine eyes; and how should I fix my regard upon a maid? ² For what would have been [my] portion of +God from above, and what the heritage of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is not calamity for the unrighteous? and misfortune for the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot hath hasted to deceit, ⁶ (Let me be weighed in an even balance, and +God will take knowledge of my blamelessness;) ⁷ If my step have turned out of the way, and my heart followed mine eyes, and if any blot cleaveth to my hands; ⁸ Let me sow, and another eat; and let mine offspring be rooted out. ⁹ If my heart have been enticed unto a woman, so that I laid wait at my neighbour`s door, <sup>10</sup> Let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her. <sup>11</sup> For this is an infamy; yea, it is an iniquity [to be judged by] the judges: <sup>12</sup> For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase. <sup>13</sup> If I have despised the cause of my bondman or of my bondmaid, when they contended with me, <sup>14</sup> What then should I do when ?God riseth up? and if he visited, what should I answer him? <sup>15</sup> Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not One fashion us in the womb? <sup>16</sup> If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail; <sup>17</sup> Or have eaten my morsel alone, so that the fatherless ate not thereof, <sup>18</sup> (For from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have guided the [widow] from my mother`s womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my lambs; ²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against an orphan, because I saw my help in the gate: ²² [Then] let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone! ²³ For calamity from ?God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I was powerless. ²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or said to the fine gold, My confidence! ²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ If I beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness, ²⁷ And my heart have been secretly enticed, so that my mouth kissed my hand: ²⁸ This also would be an iniquity for the judge, for I should have denied the ?God who is above. ²⁹ If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, and exulted when evil befell him; ³⁰ (Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse;) ³¹ If the men of my tent said not, Who shall find one that hath not been satisfied with his meat? -- ³² The stranger did not lodge without; I opened my doors to the pathway. ³³ If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom, ³⁴ Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door, ... ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my signature: let the Almighty answer me! And let mine opponent write an accusation! ³⁶ Would I not take it upon my shoulder? I would bind it on to me [as] a crown; ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I come near to him. ³⁸ If my land cry out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, and have tormented to death the souls of its owners: ⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and tares instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

¹⁴ Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.

⁷ I will declare the decree: Jehovah hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; *I* this day have begotten thee.

³ Jehovah my God, if I have done this, if there be iniquity in my hands; ⁴ If I have rewarded evil to him that was at peace with me; (indeed I have freed him that without cause oppressed me;) ⁵ Let the enemy pursue after my soul, and take [it], and let him tread down my life to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

⁴⁶ Jehovah liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation,

²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship; all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him, and he that cannot keep alive his own soul.

⁵ I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity I covered not; I said, I will confess my transgressions unto Jehovah, and *thou* forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

⁷ Thou art a hiding-place for me; thou preservest me from trouble; thou dost encompass me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

² My soul shall make its boast in Jehovah: the meek shall hear, and rejoice. ³ Magnify Jehovah with me, and let us exalt his name together. ⁴ I sought Jehovah, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. ⁵ They looked unto him, and were enlightened, and their faces were not confounded. ⁶ This afflicted one called, and Jehovah heard [him], and saved him out of all his troubles.

¹⁹ Many are the adversities of the righteous, but Jehovah delivereth him out of them all:

²³ The steps of a man are established by Jehovah, and he delighteth in his way: ²⁴ though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for Jehovah upholdeth his hand.

⁵ Through thee will we push down our adversaries; through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. ⁶ For I will not put confidence in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. ⁷ For thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us.

¹⁷ All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely against thy covenant: ¹⁸ Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path; ¹⁹ Though thou hast crushed us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death. ²⁰ If we had forgotten the name of our God, and stretched out our hands to a strange ?god, ²¹ Would not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

⁷ Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness; therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy companions.

¹⁶ Come, hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.

¹⁷ His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [men] shall bless themselves in him; all nations shall call him blessed.

¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever! and let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen, and Amen.

⁵ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and art of great loving-kindness unto all that call upon thee.

⁴ Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne from generation to generation. Selah.

¹⁶ When Jehovah shall build up Zion, he will appear in his glory.

²⁶ He that confideth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

¹⁴ Therefore will the Lord himself give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and shall bring forth a son, and call his name Immanuel.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name is called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty ?God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with judgment and with righteousness, from henceforth even for ever. ¹ And in that day thou shalt say, Jehovah, I will praise thee; for though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou hast comforted me.

⁴ It may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that is left.

³ and said, Ah, Jehovah, remember, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept much.

³ For Jehovah shall comfort Zion, he shall comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah: gladness and joy shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of song.

¹² I, [even] I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou fearest a man that shall die, and the son of man that shall become as grass;

⁹ Break forth, sing aloud together, waste places of Jerusalem; for Jehovah comforteth his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

²¹ And as for me, this is my covenant with them, saith Jehovah: My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed`s seed, saith Jehovah, from henceforth and for ever.

²³ Thus saith Jehovah: Let not the wise glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty glory in his might; let not the rich glory in his riches: ²⁴ but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I [am] Jehovah, who exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith Jehovah.

⁵ Thus saith Jehovah: Cursed is the man that confideth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from Jehovah. ⁶ And he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but he shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. ⁷ Blessed is the man that confideth in Jehovah, and whose confidence Jehovah is.

³² Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith Jehovah, and that tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies and by their boasting; and I have not sent them, nor commanded them; and they profit not this people at all, saith Jehovah.

¹³ When I say to the righteous that he shall certainly live, and he trusteth to his righteousness and doeth what is wrong, none of his righteous acts shall be remembered; but in his unrighteousness which he hath done, in it shall he die.

¹ The hand of Jehovah was upon me, and Jehovah carried me out in the Spirit, and set me down in the midst of a valley; and it was full of bones. ² And he caused me to pass by them round about; and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry. ³ And he said unto me, Son of man, Shall these bones live? And I said, Lord Jehovah, thou knowest. ⁴ And he said unto me, Prophesy over these bones, and say unto them, Ye dry bones, hear the word of Jehovah. ⁵ Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live. ⁶ And I will put sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live: and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah. ⁷ And I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a rustling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. ⁸ And I looked, and behold, sinews and flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them. ⁹ And he said unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. ¹⁰ And I prophesied as he had commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. ¹¹ And he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off! ¹² Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, O my people, and bring you into the land of Israel. ¹³ And ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah, when I have opened your graves, and have caused you to come up out of your graves, O my people. ¹⁴ And I will put my Spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I will place you in your own land: and ye shall know that I Jehovah have spoken, and have done [it], saith Jehovah.

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king unto all the peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied unto you.

³⁴ And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto the heavens, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.

⁹ With the Lord our God are mercies and pardons, for we have rebelled against him;

¹⁸ Who is a ?God like unto thee, that forgiveth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in loving-kindness.

⁴ Her prophets are vain-glorious, treacherous persons; her priests profane the sanctuary, they do violence to the law.

¹⁷ and behold, a voice out of the heavens saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when they may reproach and persecute you, and say every wicked thing against you, lying, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and exult, for your reward is great in the heavens; for thus have they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³⁷ But let your word be Yea, yea; Nay, nay; but what is more than these is from evil.

¹³ and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answering said, *Thou* art the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona, for flesh and blood has not revealed [it] to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, *This* is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight: hear him.

⁸ But *ye*, be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your instructor, and all *ye* are brethren. ⁹ And call not [any one] your father upon the earth; for one is your Father, he who is in the heavens. ¹⁰ Neither be called instructors, for one is your instructor, the Christ.

³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall in no wise pass away.

⁴⁹ and begin to beat his fellow-bondmen, and eat and drink with the drunken;

⁶³ But Jesus was silent. And the high priest answering said to him, I adjure thee by the living God that thou tell us if *thou* art the Christ the Son of God. ⁶⁴ Jesus says to him, *Thou* hast said. Moreover, I say to you, From henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.

⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou art Son of God, descend from the cross.

⁵⁴ But the centurion, and they who were with him on guard over Jesus, seeing the earthquake and the things that took place, feared greatly, saying, Truly this [man] was Son of God.

¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good pleasure in men.

²⁵ And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was just and pious, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and [the] Holy Spirit was upon him.

⁹ And he spoke also to some, who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and made nothing of all the rest [of men], this parable:

²⁸ But *ye* are they who have persevered with me in my temptations. ²⁹ And *I* appoint unto you, as my Father has appointed unto me, a kingdom, ³⁰ that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses: grace and truth subsists through Jesus Christ.

³⁴ And I have seen and borne witness that this is the Son of God.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except any one be born of water and of Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes on him may not perish, but have life eternal.

³⁴ for he whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives not the Spirit by measure. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things [to be] in his hand. ³⁶ He that believes on the Son has life eternal, and he that is not subject to the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him.

²² for neither does the Father judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son; ²³ that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him.

²⁷ Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even] God.

⁶⁹ and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.

²⁸ Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know.

³² And *we* declare unto you the glad tidings of the promise made to the fathers, ³³ that God has fulfilled this to us their children, having raised up Jesus; as it is also written in the second psalm, *Thou* art my Son: this day have *I* begotten thee. ³⁴ But that he raised him from among [the] dead, no more to return to corruption, he spoke thus: I will give to you the faithful mercies of David. ³⁵ Wherefore also he says in another, Thou wilt not suffer thy gracious one to see corruption. ³⁶ For David indeed, having in his own generation ministered to the will of God, fell asleep, and was added to his fathers and saw corruption. ³⁷ But he whom God raised up did not see corruption. ³⁸ Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, that through this man remission of sins is preached to you, ³⁹ and from all things from which ye could not be justified in the law of Moses, in him every one that believes is justified.

²² Then it seemed good to the apostles and to the elders, with the whole assembly, to send chosen men from among them with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch, Judas called Barsabas and Silas, leading men among the brethren,

²¹ And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in his spirit to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia, saying, After I have been there I must see Rome also. ²² And having sent into Macedonia two of those ministering to him, Timotheus and Erastus, he remained himself awhile in Asia. ²³ And there took place at that time no small disturbance about the way. ²⁴ For a certain [man] by name Demetrius, a silver-beater, making silver temples of Artemis, brought no small gain to the artisans; ²⁵ whom having brought together, and those who wrought in such things, he said, Men, ye know that our well-living arises from this work, ²⁶ and ye see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great crowd, not only of Ephesus, but almost of all Asia, saying that they are no gods which are made with hands. ²⁷ Now not only there is danger for us that our business come into discredit, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis be counted for nothing, and that her greatness should be destroyed whom the whole of Asia and the world reveres. ²⁸ And having heard [this], and being filled with rage, they cried out, saying, Great [is] Artemis of the Ephesians. ²⁹ And the [whole] city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord to the theatre, having seized and carried off with [them] Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, fellow-travellers of Paul. ³⁰ But Paul intending to go in to the people, the disciples suffered him not; ³¹ and some of the Asiarchs also, who were his friends, sent to him and urged him not to throw himself into the theatre. ³² Different persons therefore cried out some different thing; for the assembly was tumultuous, and the most did not know for what cause they had come together. ³³ But from among the crowd they put forward Alexander, the Jews pushing him forward. And Alexander, beckoning with his hand, would have made a defence to the people. ³⁴ But, recognising that he was a Jew, there was one cry from all, shouting for about two hours, Great [is] Artemis of the Ephesians. ³⁵ And the townclerk, having quieted the crowd, said, Ephesians, what man is there then who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of Artemis the great, and of the [image] which fell down from heaven?

⁵ But when we had completed the days, we set out and took our journey, all of them accompanying us, with wives and children, till [we were] out of the city. And kneeling down upon the shore we prayed.

¹⁷ (according as it is written, I have made thee father of many nations,) before the God whom he believed, who quickens the dead, and calls the things which be not as being; ¹⁸ who against hope believed in hope to his becoming father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be: ¹⁹ and not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body already become dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadening of Sarah`s womb, ²⁰ and hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief; but found strength in faith, giving glory to God; ²¹ and being fully persuaded that what he has promised he is able also to do; ²² wherefore also it was reckoned to him as righteousness. ²³ Now it was not written on his account alone that it was reckoned to him, ²⁴ but on ours also, to whom, believing on him who has raised from among [the] dead Jesus our Lord, ²⁵ who has been delivered for our offences and has been raised for our justification, it will be reckoned.

² by whom we have also access by faith into this favour in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. ³ And not only [that], but we also boast in tribulations, knowing that tribulation works endurance; ⁴ and endurance, experience; and experience, hope; ⁵ and hope does not make ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by [the] Holy Spirit which has been given to us:

²³ For the wages of sin [is] death; but the act of favour of God, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁹ But *ye* are not in flesh but in Spirit, if indeed God`s Spirit dwell in you; but if any one has not [the] Spirit of Christ *he* is not of him:

¹⁴ for as many as are led by [the] Spirit of God, *these* are sons of God. ¹⁵ For ye have not received a spirit of bondage again for fear, but ye have received a spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are children of God. ¹⁷ And if children, heirs also: heirs of God, and Christ`s joint heirs; if indeed we suffer with [him], that we may also be glorified with [him]. ¹⁸ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy [to be compared] with the coming glory to be revealed to us.

²³ And not only [that], but even *we* ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, we also ourselves groan in ourselves, awaiting adoption, [that is] the redemption of our body.

²⁸ But we *do* know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to purpose.

¹ I say [the] truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in [the] Holy Spirit,

²⁰ Right: they have been broken out through unbelief, and *thou* standest through faith. Be not high-minded, but fear:

²⁵ For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of this mystery, that ye may not be wise in your own conceits, that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the nations be come in;

⁵ Now the God of endurance and of encouragement give to you to be like-minded one toward another, according to Christ Jesus; ⁶ that ye may with one accord, with one mouth, glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁷ Wherefore receive ye one another, according as the Christ also has received you to [the] glory of God. ⁸ For I say that Jesus Christ became a minister of [the] circumcision for [the] truth of God, to confirm the promises of the fathers; ⁹ and that the nations should glorify God for mercy; according as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among [the] nations, and will sing to thy name.

²⁶ for Macedonia and Achaia have been well pleased to make a certain contribution for the poor of the saints who [are] in Jerusalem.

²⁹ But I know that, coming to you, I shall come in [the] fulness of [the] blessing of Christ. ³⁰ But I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in prayers for me to God; ³¹ that I may be saved from those that do not believe in Judaea; and that my ministry which [I have] for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints;

⁴ and my word and my preaching, not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of [the] Spirit and of power; ⁵ that your faith might not stand in men`s wisdom, but in God`s power.

⁵ Who then is Apollos, and who Paul? Ministering servants, through whom ye have believed, and as the Lord has given to each.

²¹ So that let no one boast in men; for all things are yours. ²² Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or [the] world, or life, or death, or things present, or things coming, all are yours; ²³ and *ye* [are] Christ`s, and Christ [is] God`s.

⁴ For I am conscious of nothing in myself; but I am not justified by this: but he that examines me is the Lord.

⁸ Already ye are filled; already ye have been enriched; ye have reigned without us; and I would that ye reigned, that *we* also might reign with you.

¹⁰ *We* [are] fools for Christ`s sake, but *ye* prudent in Christ: *we* weak, but *ye* strong: *ye* glorious, but *we* in dishonour. ¹¹ To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and are in nakedness, and buffeted, and wander without a home, ¹² and labour, working with our own hands. Railed at, we bless; persecuted, we suffer [it]; ¹³ insulted, we entreat: we are become as [the] offscouring of the world, [the] refuse of all, until now.

¹⁹ but I will come quickly to you, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the word of those that are puffed up, but the power.

²¹ What will ye? that I come to you with a rod; or in love, and [in] a spirit of meekness?

⁵ to deliver him, [I say,] [being] such, to Satan for destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

⁸ so that let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with leaven of malice and wickedness, but with unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth.

¹¹ And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

¹³ No temptation has taken you but such as is according to man`s nature; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able [to bear], but will with the temptation make the issue also, so that [ye] should be able to bear [it].

³² Give no occasion to stumbling, whether to Jews, or Greeks, or the assembly of God.

¹⁸ For first, when ye come together in assembly, I hear there exist divisions among you, and I partly give credit [to it].

³⁴ If any one be hungry, let him eat at home, that ye may not come together for judgment. But the other things, whenever I come, I will set in order.

¹⁶ Since otherwise, if thou blessest with [the] spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the simple [Christian] say Amen, at thy giving of thanks, since he does not know what thou sayest?

⁵ But I will come to you when I shall have gone through Macedonia; for I do go through Macedonia. ⁶ But perhaps I will stay with you, or even winter with you, that *ye* may set me forward wheresoever I may go. ⁷ For I will not see you now in passing, for I hope to remain a certain time with you, if the Lord permit.

⁹ For a great door is opened to me and an effectual [one], and [the] adversaries many. ¹⁰ Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear; for he works the work of the Lord, even as I.

¹⁵ But I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first-fruits of Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the saints for service,)

⁴ who encourages us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to encourage those who are in any tribulation whatever, through the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged of God. ⁵ Because, even as the sufferings of the Christ abound towards us, so through the Christ does our encouragement also abound. ⁶ But whether we are in tribulation, [it is] for your encouragement and salvation, wrought in the endurance of the same sufferings which *we* also suffer,

¹² For our boasting is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity before God, (not in fleshly wisdom but in God`s grace,) we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly towards you.

If any one has confidence in himself that he is of Christ, let him think this again in himself, that even as he [is] of Christ, so also [are] we. ⁸ For and if I should boast even somewhat more abundantly of our authority, which the Lord has given [to us] for building up and not for your overthrowing, I shall not be put to shame; ⁹ that I may not seem as if I was frightening you by letters: ¹⁰ because his letters, he says, [are] weighty and strong, but his presence in the body weak, and his speech naught. ¹¹ Let such a one think this, that such as we are in word by letters [when] absent, such also present in deed.

³ But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craft, [so] your thoughts should be corrupted from simplicity as to the Christ.

¹⁰ [The] truth of Christ is in me that this boasting shall not be stopped as to me in the regions of Achaia. ¹¹ Why? because I do not love you? God knows.

Who is stumbled, and I burn not? ³⁰ If it is needful to boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity. ³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus knows -- he who is blessed for ever -- that I do not lie.

¹³ All these died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar off and embraced [them], and confessed that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth.

¹² But before all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay, that ye do not fall under judgment.

¹⁶ Confess therefore your offences to one another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. ¹² To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves but to you they ministered those things, which have now been announced to you by those who have declared to you the glad tidings by [the] Holy Spirit, sent from heaven, which angels desire to look into.

³ not as lording it over your possessions, but being models for the flock.

⁸ Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. ⁹ Whom resist, stedfast in faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which [is] in [the] world. ¹⁰ But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground:

¹⁷ For he received from God [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom *I* have found my delight;

⁹ [the] Lord knows [how] to deliver the godly out of trial, and to keep [the] unjust to [the] day of judgment [to be] punished;

³ that which we have seen and heard we report to you, that *ye* also may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship [is] indeed with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

²⁰ And *ye* have [the] unction from the holy [one], and ye know all things.

²⁴ As for *you* let that which ye have heard from the beginning abide in you: if what ye have heard from the beginning abides in you, *ye* also shall abide in the Son and in the Father. ²⁵ And this is the promise which *he* has promised us, life eternal.

²⁷ and *yourselves*, the unction which ye have received from him abides in you, and ye have not need that any one should teach you; but as the same unction teaches you as to all things, and is true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, ye shall abide in him.

¹⁹ And hereby we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall persuade our hearts before him -- ²⁰ that if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness towards God, ²² and whatsoever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and practise the things which are pleasing in his sight.

⁹ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God [which] he has witnessed concerning his Son. ¹⁰ He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning his Son. ¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding that we should know him that [is] true; and we are in him that [is] true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

⁴ I rejoiced greatly that I have found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received commandment from the Father.

⁹ Whosoever goes forward and abides not in the doctrine of the Christ has not God. He that abides in the doctrine, *he* has both the Father and the Son.

¹⁴ And to the angel of the assembly in Laodicea write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:

¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold purified by fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white garments, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness may not be made manifest; and eye-salve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see.

³ saying, Hurt not the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, until we shall have sealed the bondmen of our God upon their foreheads.

¹² saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and strength, to our God, to the ages of ages. Amen.
