²³ That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question,

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."

¹⁸ Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him; and they asked him a question, saying: ¹⁹ "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the wife, and raise up children for his brother. ²⁰ Now there were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no children. ²¹ And the second took her, and he died; leaving behind no children. And the third likewise. ²² So the seven had her and left no children. Last of all the woman died also. ²³ In the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife." ²⁴ Jesus said to them, "Is not this why you are wrong, that you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. ²⁶ And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken."

²⁷ Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him, ²⁸ and they questioned him, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother. ²⁹ Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died without children. ³⁰ And the second ³¹ and then the third took her, and in the same way the seven died, and they left no children. ³² Finally the woman died also. ³³ In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife." ³⁴ And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. ³⁵ But those who are considered worthy to attain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, ³⁶ nor can they die any more, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. ³⁷ But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.' ³⁸ Now he is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to him." ³⁹ And some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well." ⁴⁰ For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

¹ And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them,

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and they were filled with jealousy.

⁶ But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, "Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead I am on trial." ⁷ When he said this, a dissension broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that he has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? ¹³ But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised; ¹⁴ if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and so is your faith.

¹⁸ who have gone astray from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and upset the faith of some.
