¹ Has not a mortal a life of enlistment on the earth? And his days, are they not like the days of a hireling? ² Like a servant who is gasping for shade, And like a hireling who is expecting his wages, ³ So am I allotted months of futility for me, And nights of misery have they assigned to me. ⁴ When I lie down, then I say, When shall I rise? Yet the evening measures on, And I am surfeited with restlessness until the morning gloaming. ⁵ My flesh is clothed with maggot and dirty scab; My skin is split apart and is fetid. ⁶ My days are fleeter than a weaver's shuttle, And they shall conclude with the limit of the weaving thread. ⁷ Remember that my life is a wind; My eye shall not turn back again to see good. ⁸ The eye of Him with sight shall not regard me; Your eyes will look for me, but I will not be there. ⁹ As a cloud vanishes and goes away, So one descending to the unseen shall not ascend. ¹⁰ He shall not return any more to his house, And his place shall not recognize him again. ¹¹ Indeed for me, I shall not keep back my mouth; I shall speak in the distress of my spirit; I shall importune in the bitterness of my soul. ¹² Am I the sea or the monster That You should place a guard over me? ¹³ For I said, My cot shall comfort me; My bed shall bear away my concern;" ¹⁴ Yet You have dismayed me with dreams, And You have frightened me with visions. ¹⁵ So my soul would choose strangling; Death is desired by my bones. ¹⁶ I reject this; I would not live for the eon; Leave off from me, for my days are vanity. ¹⁷ What is a mortal that You should make a great thing of him, Or that You should set Your heart on him? ¹⁸ Or You should note him every morning, And You should test him every moment? ¹⁹ How long shall You not heed me, Or not let me relax even until I swallow my saliva? ²⁰ I have sinned, Yet what do I contrive against You, O Preserver of mankind? Why have You established me as Your target mark, That I should become a load to You? ²¹ Why do You not bear my transgression And pass over my depravity? For now I shall lie in the soil, And You would seek me early, but I will not be there.

³³ If I have covered up my transgression like Adam, By burying my depravity in my lap,

⁹ I am pure, without transgression; I am unstained, and no depravity is in me;"

²⁷ He shall sing before mortals and say, I have sinned and depraved what is upright, Yet He did not compensate it fully to me.

¹⁴ If He places it in His heart concerning him, He can gather back His spirit and His breath to Himself;" ¹⁵ All flesh would expire together, And humanity would return to the soil.

⁶ If you sin, what effect do you have on Him, And if your transgressions are many, what do you do to Him?

¹¹ Indeed, He encumbers the thick cloud with soaking moisture; He scatters His lightning cloud,

Or who directed its cornerstone in place, ⁷ When the stars of the morning jubilated together, And all the sons of Elohim shouted with joy? ⁸ Who shut in the sea with double doors When it rushed forth, it came forth from the womb, ⁹ When I made a cloud its garment And murkiness its swaddling band, ¹⁰ When I set My statute upon it And broke bar and doors, ¹¹ When I said, Unto here shall you come but shall not proceed farther, And here a limit is set to the pride of your billows?

¹ Can you draw out the leviathan with a fishhook, Or hold down his tongue with a line? ² Can you place a rush rope in his nose, Or pierce his cheek with a gaff? ³ Would he make many supplications to you, Or speak to you with tender words? ⁴ Would he contract a covenant with you That you may take him as a servant for the eon? ⁵ Can you sport with him as with a bird, Or tie him up for your maidens? ⁶ Would partners bargain over him That they may divide him up among traffickers? ⁷ Can you fill his skin with barbs Or his head with the fishing spear? ⁸ Place your palm on him; Remember the battle; you would certainly not do it again! ⁹ Behold, one's hope is proved a lie; Even at the sight of him one is hurled down. ¹⁰ Is he not too cruel for one to rouse him? Who then is he who can station himself before Me? ¹¹ Who can confront Me and would fare well? Whatever is under the entire heavens, it is Mine. ¹² I shall not keep silence about his constitution Or the matter of his grand mastery that is without appraisal. ¹³ Who has rolled back his surface garment? Who can enter through his double cuirass? ¹⁴ Who has opened the doors of his face? All around his teeth is dread. ¹⁵ His body is made of channels of shields, Closed by a constricting seal. ¹⁶ One to the other, they are so close That the wind cannot enter between them. ¹⁷ They are clung together each to its fellow; They seize each other and cannot be parted. ¹⁸ His sneezings make the light irradiate, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn. ¹⁹ Flaming torches go out from his mouth; Darts of fire escape forth. ²⁰ Out from his snorting nostrils smoke goes forth As from a steaming pannier or burning rushes. ²¹ His soul sets embers aflame, And a blaze goes forth from his mouth. ²² In his neck lodges strength, And consternation romps before him. ²³ The flaps of his flesh cling together, Solidly set upon him; it is immovable. ²⁴ His heart is solidly set like stone, Even solidly set like the nether grindstone. ²⁵ At his lifting up, the subjectors shrink back; At his breaking forth, they recede. ²⁶ Though the sword overtakes him, it does not avail, As also the spear, the dagger and the short arrow. ²⁷ He reckons iron as crushed straw, Copper as rotten wood. ²⁸ The son of the bow cannot make him run away; Sling stones are turned to straw for him. ²⁹ The bludgeon is reckoned by him as straw, And he ridicules the whizzing of the dart. ³⁰ His under parts are sharp pieces of shard; He strews spike marks on the mud. ³¹ He makes the shadowy deep boil like a pot; He makes the sea appear like foaming ointment. ³² Behind him he makes his track resplendent; One would reckon the abyss to be greyhaired. ³³ There is no one on the soil comparable to him, Who was made to be without dismay. ³⁴ He stares down on every haughty creature; He is king over every strutting beast.

³ And my soul, it is flustered exceedingly. But You, O Yahweh, how long?

⁸ You have set our depravities in front of You, Our obscured deeds in the full light of Your face." ⁹ Indeed all our days turn around before Your rage; We finish our years like a mumble.

⁷ And the soil returns to the earth just as it was, And the spirit, it returns to the One, Elohim, Who gave it."

⁶ From the sole of the foot unto the head no flawlessness is in it. Injury and welt, and smiting raw; they are not pressed out, nor bound up, nor made tender with oil."

⁹ You must not be wroth with us, Yahweh, unto excess, and You must not, for the future, be remembering our depravity. Behold! Look, pray! Your people are we all."

²⁴ And they fare forth and see the corpses of the mortals, the transgressors against Me, for their worm shall not die, and their fire shall not be quenched, and they become a repulsion to all flesh."

²⁵ Withhold your foot from being unshod, And your throat from thirst, And you say, `It is incurable, No, for I have loved strangers, and after them I go.'"

⁴ Sanctify you against her the battle, Rise, and we go up at noon. Woe to us, for turned has the day, For stretched out are the shades of evening,

⁷ Therefore, thus said Yahweh of Hosts:Lo, I am refining them, and have tried them, For how do I do because of the daughter of My people?

¹⁵ You, You have known, O Yahweh, Remember me, and inspect me, And take vengeance for me of my pursuers, In Your long-suffering take me not away, Know--I have borne for You reproach."

⁷ He dikes me about so that I cannot go forth; He makes my copper fetters heavy;

¹² He positions His bow and is setting me as a target for the arrow;

⁴² We have transgressed and rebelled; You have not pardoned; ⁴³ You have blanketed us with anger and pursued us; You have killed and have not spared; ⁴⁴ You have blanketed Yourself with a cloud to keep prayer from passing through.

²⁰ Why are You forgetting us so permanently, forsaking us for length of days? ²¹ Restore us to Yourself, O Yahweh, and we shall return; renew our days as of long ago, ²² Unless You have rejected us yea utterly rejected, and are wrathful against us exceedingly."

⁴³ And you have remembered there your ways, And all your doings, In which you have been defiled, And you have been loathsome in your own faces, For all your evils that you have done."

² `Son of man, lift up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and you have said unto him:A young lion of nations you have been like, And you [are] as a dragon in the seas, And you come forth with your flowings, And do trouble the waters with your feet, And you do foul their flowings." ³ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:And--I have spread out for you My net, With an assembly of many peoples, And they have brought you up in My net."

¹ In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar's kingdom, Nebuchadnezzar dreams dreams; agitated is his spirit and his sleep is fleeing from him."

² From those sleeping in the soil of the ground many shall awake, these to eonian life and these to reproach for eonian repulsion."

¹⁰ Many will purify and whiten themselves and be refined; yet the wicked will be wicked. None of all the wicked shall understand; yet the intelligent are understanding.

² Take words with you and return to Yahweh, your Elohim; say to Him:Wilt You bear away all the depravity? Take the good, and we will repay with the fruit of our lips."

³ And now, Yahweh, take, I pray, my soul from me, for better is my death than my life."

⁸ And it is coming as the sun rises, that Elohim is assigning a hot east wind, and the sun is smiting on the head of Jonah, and he is swooning. And he is asking for his soul to die and is saying, Better is my death than my life."

¹⁸ Who is an El as You are, bearing with depravity, and passing over transgression, for the remnant of His allotment? He does not hold fast His anger for the future. For He delights in kindness." ¹⁹ He will return, having compassion on us. He will subdue our depravities. And You wilt fling into the shadowy depths of the sea all our sins."

⁹ And I will bring the third into the fire. And I will refine them as silver is refined. And I will test them as gold is tested. It shall call in My name, and I will answer it. I will say, My people is it. And it will say, Yahweh is my Elohim."

⁵ Then I will come near to you for judgment, and become a hastening witness against the enchanters and against the adulterers, and against those who are swearing in My name to falsehood, and against those extorting the hire of the hireling, and those tyrannizing over the widow and taunting the orphan, and turning aside the sojourner, and do not fear Me, says Yahweh of hosts."

¹ For like is the kingdom of the heavens to a man, a householder, who came out at the same time with the morning to hire workers for his vineyard." ² Now, agreeing with the workers for a denarius a day, he dispatches them into his vineyard." ³ And, coming out about the third hour, he perceived others standing in the market, idle." ⁴ And to those he said, 'You also go into my vineyard, and whatsoever may be just I shall be giving you.' Now they came away." ⁵ Now, again coming out about the sixth and ninth hour, he does similarly." ⁶ Now, about the eleventh, coming out, he found others standing. And he is saying to them, 'Why stand you here the whole day idle?'" ⁷ They are saying to him that 'No one hires us.' He is saying to them, 'You also go into the vineyard.'" ⁸ Now, evening coming on, the lord of the vineyard is saying to his manager, 'Call the workers and pay them the wages, beginning from the last, to the first.'" ⁹ And, coming, those hired about the eleventh hour got a denarius apiece. " ¹⁰ And, coming, the first infer that they will be getting more. And they also got a denarius apiece." ¹¹ Now, getting it, they murmured against the householder, ¹² saying, 'These last do one hour, and you make them equal to us who bear the burden of the day and the scorching heat.'" ¹³ Yet he, answering one of them, said, 'Comrade, I am not injuring you! Did you not agree with me for a denarius? ¹⁴ Pick up what is yours and go away. Now I want to give to this last one even as to you. ¹⁵ Is it not allowed me to do what I want with that which is mine? Or is your eye wicked, seeing that I am good?'"

³⁷ And taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He begins to be sorrowful and depressed." ³⁸ Then He is saying to them, Sorrow-stricken is My soul to death. Remain here and watch with Me."

⁵ And, tossing the silver pieces into the temple, he retires, and, coming away, strangles himself."

¹⁹ Now at his sitting on the dais, his wife dispatches to him, saying, "Let there be nothing between you and that just man, for I suffered much today in a trance because of him."

⁴⁴ And coming to be in a struggle, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became as if clots of blood descending on the earth."

²⁹ On the morrow he is observing Jesus coming toward him, and is saying, "Lo! the Lamb of God Which is taking away the sin of the world!"

⁹ Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone should be walking in the day, he is not stumbling, for he is observing the light of this world." ¹⁰ Yet if anyone should be walking in the night, he is stumbling, for the light is not in him."

²³ Now instantly a messenger of the Lord smites him, because he gives not the glory to God, and, becoming the food of worms, he gives up his soul."

⁴ for my joy is that of you all. For out of much affliction and pressure of heart I write to you, through many tears, not that you may be made sorrowful, but that you may know the love which I have for you more superabundantly."

¹² that you were, in that era, apart from Christ, being alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and guests of the promise covenants, having no expectation, and without God in the world."

¹⁴ Who gives Himself for us, that He should be redeeming us from all lawlessness and be cleansing for Himself a people to be about Him, zealous for ideal acts."

⁶ Yet somewhere someone certifies, saying, "What is man, that Thou art mindful of him, Or a son of mankind, that Thou art visiting him?

¹¹ For the sun rises, together with the scorching heat, and withers the grass, and its flower falls off, and the comeliness of its aspect perished. Thus the rich also in his goings shall be caused to fade."

¹⁴ who are not versed in that which is the morrow's, for what is your life? For a vapor are you, which is appearing briefly and thereupon disappearing-"

⁴ Lo! the wage of the workers, who mow your country places, which has been withheld by you, is crying, and the imploring of the reapers has entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts."

⁷ that the testing of your faith, much more precious than gold which is perishing, yet, being tested by fire, may be found for applause and glory and honor at the unveiling of Jesus Christ,

¹³ Wherefore, girding up the loins of your comprehension, being sober, expect perfectly the grace which is being brought to you at the unveiling of Jesus Christ."

²⁴ because All flesh is grass, And all its glory is as the flower of grass. Withered is the grass, And the flower falls off..."

⁹ If we should be avowing our sins, He is faithful and just that He may be pardoning us our sins and should be cleansing us from all injustice."

⁵ And you are aware that He was manifested that He should be taking away our sins, and in Him is no sin."

¹⁰ And they cry with a loud voice, saying, "Till when, O Owner, holy and true, art Thou not judging and avenging our blood on those dwelling on the earth?
