⁴ Behold, I am slight; how can I reply to You? I place my hand upon my mouth.

²⁷ And answering is Abraham and saying, "Behold, pray! Disposed am I to speak to Yahweh, and I am but soil and ashes.

¹⁰ Smaller am I than all the kindnesses and than all the truth which You do to Your servant, for with my stick I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

¹⁹ and they say to him, `Keep silent, lay your hand on your mouth, and go with us, and be to us for a father and for a priest:is it better your being a priest to the house of one man, or your being priest to a tribe and to a family in Israel?.

¹⁰ And the heart of David smites him, after that he has numbered the people, and David said unto Yahweh, `I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Yahweh, cause to pass away, I pray You, the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly..

⁴ and he himself has gone into the wilderness a day's Journey, and comes and sits under a certain retem-tree, and desires his soul to die, and said, `Enough, now, O Yahweh, take my soul, for I [am] not better than my fathers..

⁶ and said:My Elohim, I am ashamed and confounded to raise up my face to You, my Elohim, for our depravities, they are abundant, above our heads, and our guilt is towering unto the heavens.

¹⁵ O Yahweh Elohim of Israel, You are the Righteous One! For we are left as a remnant for deliverance, as at this day. Here we are before You in our guilt, though no one can stand before You on account of this.

³³ and You [are] righteous concerning all that has come upon us, for truth You have done, and we have done wickedly;"

³¹ Then You would dip me in the slough, And my own raiments would abhor me. ³² For He is not a man like me that I should assert to Him:Let us come together for judgment. ³³ There is not any arbitrator between us, Who could set his hand on us both. ³⁴ Let Him withdraw His club from me, And let not the dread of Him frighten me. ³⁵ Let me speak and not fear Him, But I am not so within me now.

²¹ That He may plead between a master and Eloah, As between a son of humanity and his associate.

⁵ Face me, and be desolated, And place your hand over your mouth.

⁴ I would arrange a plea before Him And fill my mouth with pleadings. ⁵ I would know the declarations with which He shall answer, And I would understand what He shall say to me. ⁶ Shall He contend against me with an abundance of vigor? Surely He Himself shall not place charges against me! ⁷ There an upright man would plead with Him; Let me win deliverance permanently from my Judge.

⁹ The chiefs would restrain their declarations And place the palm over their mouth;

³⁷ I would tell him the tale of my steps; Like a nobleman I would approach him.)

⁶ Therefore I sink down and repent On soil and ashes.

⁹ I have become mute; I shall not open my mouth, For You Yourself have acted."

⁴ Against You, against You alone have I sinned And done what is evil in Your eyes, So that You may be justified when You speak, And be cleared when You judge." ⁵ Behold, I was with depravity when I was travailed in birth, And in sin when my mother conceived me."

³² If you have disgraced yourself by lifting yourself up, Or if you have schemed evil, put your hand to your mouth."

⁵ And saying am I, "Alack to me! For stilled am I, for a man of unclean lips am I, and amidst a people of unclean lips am I dwelling, for the King, Yahweh of hosts, my eyes have seen!"

⁶ All of us, as a flockling, have strayed; each man to his own way, we face, yet Yahweh, in Him, intercedes because of all our depravity."

⁶ And we are becoming as unclean, all of us, and as an ornamented garment is all our righteousness. And we are decaying as a leaf, all of us, and our depravities, as the wind, are carrying us away."

⁵ We sin and we are depraved, we do wickedly and revolt, we withdraw from Thy instructions and from Thy judgments."

⁷ To Thee, my Lord, is righteousness, yet to us is shamefacedness as at this day:To each man of Judah, to the dwellers of Jerusalem, to all the people of Israel, the near and the far, in all the lands where Thou hast expelled them for their offense with which they offend Thee."

¹⁶ The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their mastery. They will place a hand on the mouth. Their ears will be deaf.

²⁰ Yet Yahweh is in His holy temple! Hist! all the earth, because of His presence!"

¹³ Hist! all flesh, in view of Yahweh, for He is roused from His holy habitation."

⁸ Now perceiving it, Simon Peter prostrates before Jesus' knees, saying, "Come away from me, for a man, a sinner am I, Lord!"

¹⁸ Rising, I will go to my father and declare to him, "Father, I sinned against heaven and in your sight." ¹⁹ No longer am I worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired men."'"

¹³ Now the tribute collector, standing afar off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, 'God, make a propitiatory shelter for me, the sinner!' "

¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all welcome, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, foremost of whom am I."
