¹³ who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty.

³¹ And it was reported to David, saying, Ahithophel also is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord my God, disconcert, I pray, the counsel of Ahithophel.

³⁴ but if you shall return to the city, and shall say to Absalom, your brethren have passed over, and the king your father has passed over after me: and now I am your servant, O king, permit me to live. At one time even of late I was the servant of your father, and now I am your humble servant — so shall you defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.

²³ And Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, and he saddled his donkey, and rose and departed to his house into his city; and he gave orders to his household, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

⁴ And while the king was inquiring about the kindness of Mordecai, behold, Haman was in the court. And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman had come in to speak to the king, that he should hang Mordecai on the gallows, which he had prepared. ⁵ And the king's servants said, Behold, Haman stands in the court. And the king said, Call him. ⁶ And the king said to Haman, What shall I do to the man whom I wish to honor? And Haman said within himself, Whom would the king honor but myself? ⁷ And he said to the king, As for the man whom the king wishes to honor, ⁸ let the king's servants bring the robe of fine linen which the king puts on, and the horse on which the king rides, ⁹ and let him give it to one of the king's noble friends, and let him array the man whom the king loves. And let him mount him on the horse, and proclaim through the streets of the city, saying, Thus shall it be to every man whom the king honors. ¹⁰ Then the king said to Haman, you have well said: so do to Mordecai the Jew, who waits in the palace, and let not a word of what you have spoken be neglected. ¹¹ So Haman took the robe and the horse, and clothed Mordecai, and mounted him on the horse, and went through the street of the city, and proclaimed, saying, Thus shall it be to every man whom the king wishes to honor.

¹⁰ So Haman was hanged on the gallows that had been prepared for Mordecai; and then the king's wrath was appeased.

²⁵ also how he went in to the king, telling him to hang Mordecai. But all the calamities he tried to bring upon the Jews came upon himself, and he was hanged, and his children.

¹⁵ He has opened a pit, and dug it up, and he shall fall into the ditch which he has made. ¹⁶ His trouble shall return on his own head, and his unrighteousness shall come down on his own crown.

¹⁵ The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: in the very snare which they hid is their foot taken. ¹⁶ The Lord is known as executing judgments: the sinner is taken in the works of his hands. Pause.

²⁶ And with the excellent, You shall be excellent; and with the perverse, You shall be shrewd.

⁷ For without cause they have hid for me their destructive snare; without a cause they have reproached my soul. ⁸ Let a snare which they know not come upon them; and the net which they hid take them; and let them fall into the very same snare.

³² For every transgressor is unclean before the Lord, neither does he sit among the righteous.

⁵¹ He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

¹⁹ For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent I will annul." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness";
