¹ After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth,

¹¹ But put forth Your hand, and touch all that he has, and he will curse You to Your face.

²² In all these events that befell him, Job sinned not before the Lord, and did not impute wrong to God.

⁵ Ah, but put forth Your hand, and touch his bones and his flesh — surely he will curse You to Your face!

⁹ And when much time had passed, his wife said to him, How long will you hold out, saying, ^(9A) Behold, I wait yet a little while, expecting the hope of my deliverance? ^(9B) For behold, your memorial is abolished from the earth, even your sons and daughters, the pangs and pains of my womb which I bore in vain with sorrows; ^(9C) and you yourself sit down to spend the nights in the open air among the corruption of worms, ^(9D) and I am a wanderer and a servant from place to place and house to house, waiting for the setting of the sun, that I may rest from my labors, and my pangs which now beset me: ^(9E) but curse the Lord, and die. ¹⁰ But he looked at her, and said to her, You have spoken like one of the foolish women. If we have received good things of the hand of the Lord, shall we not endure evil things? In all these things that happened to him, Job sinned not with his lips before God.

³ Let the day perish in which I was born, and that night in which they said, Behold a male child!

¹⁶ Yet Job vainly opens his mouth, in ignorance he multiplies words.

² I was dumb, and humbled myself, and kept silence from good words; and my grief was renewed. ³ My heart grew hot within me, and a fire would kindle in my meditation; I spoke with my tongue,

³³ for they provoked his spirit, and he spoke unadvisedly with his lips.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day in which I was born! Let the day not be blessed in which my mother bore me! ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought the glad tidings to my father, saying, A male child has been born to you.
