¹⁵ Therefore when you shall see ‘the abomination of desolation,’ having been spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place—the one reading, let him understand— ¹⁶ then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; ¹⁷ the one on the housetop, do not let him come down to take anything out of his house; ¹⁸ and the one in the field, do not let him return back to take his cloak. ¹⁹ And woe to those having in womb, and to the ones nursing infants in those days! ²⁰ But pray that your flight might not be in winter, nor on a Sabbath. ²¹ For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, and never shall be. ²² And unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the elect, those days will be shortened. ²³ Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Here,’ do not believe it. ²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have foretold you. ²⁶ Therefore if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go forth; or ‘Behold, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe. ²⁷ For just as the lightning comes forth from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. ²⁸ For wherever the carcass may be, there the vultures will be gathered.

²⁰ And when you see Jerusalem being encircled by encampments, then know that her desolation has drawn near. ²¹ Then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; and those in her midst, let them depart out; and those in the countries, let them not enter into her. ²² For these are the days of avenging, to fulfill all things having been written. ²³ But woe to those having in womb, and to the ones nursing in those days. For there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people. ²⁴ And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

³⁰ And Philip having run up, heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, “Do you then understand what you are reading?” ³¹ And he said, “How indeed could I be able, unless someone will guide me?” And he invited Philip, having come up, to sit with him.

⁷ Even lifeless things giving a sound, whether the flute or harp, unless they give distinction to the sounds, how will it be known what is being piped or being harped? ⁸ And indeed if the trumpet gives an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle?

²⁰ Brothers, do not be children in the minds. Yet in the evil, be little children; but in the thinking, be full grown.

³ Blessed is the one reading, and those hearing the words of the prophecy, and keeping the things having been written in it; for the time is near.

¹⁸ Here is the wisdom. The one having understanding, let him count the number of the beast, for it is a man’s number, and its number is six hundred sixty-six.
