³ Καθημένου (As was sitting) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (He) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) ὄρους (Mount) τῶν (-) Ἐλαιῶν (of Olives), προσῆλθον (came to) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private), λέγοντες (saying), “Εἰπὲ (Tell) ἡμῖν (us), πότε (when) ταῦτα (these things) ἔσται (will be)? καὶ (And) τί (what is) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) τῆς (-) σῆς (of Your) παρουσίας (coming) καὶ (and) συντελείας (of the consummation) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age)?”

¹⁰ Καὶ (And) προσελθόντες (having come to Him), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖς (speak You) αὐτοῖς (to them)?” ¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) ‹αὐτοῖς› (to them), “Ὅτι (Because) Ὑμῖν (to you) δέδοται (it has been granted) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); ἐκείνοις (to them) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) δέδοται (it has been granted).

³⁶ Τότε (Then) ἀφεὶς (having dismissed) τοὺς (the) ὄχλους (crowds), ἦλθεν (He went) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house). Καὶ (And) προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Διασάφησον (Explain) ἡμῖν (to us) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) τῶν (of the) ζιζανίων (weeds) τοῦ (of the) ἀγροῦ (field).”

³⁹ ὁ (-) δὲ (and) ἐχθρὸς (the enemy) ὁ (-) σπείρας (having sown) αὐτά (them) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil); ὁ (-) δὲ (and) θερισμὸς (the harvest) συντέλεια (the consummation) αἰῶνός (of the age) ἐστιν (is), οἱ (-) δὲ (and) θερισταὶ (the harvesters) ἄγγελοί (angels) εἰσιν (are). ⁴⁰ Ὥσπερ (As) οὖν (therefore) συλλέγεται (is gathered) τὰ (the) ζιζάνια (weeds), καὶ (and) πυρὶ (in fire) κατακαίεται (is consumed), οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (it will be) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) συντελείᾳ (consummation) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age).

⁴⁹ Οὕτως (Thus) ἔσται (will it be) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) συντελείᾳ (consummation) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age); ἐξελεύσονται (will go out) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels), καὶ (and) ἀφοριοῦσιν (will separate) τοὺς (the) πονηροὺς (evil) ἐκ (from) μέσου (the midst) τῶν (of the) δικαίων (righteous),

¹² Τότε (Then) προσελθόντες (having come near), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) λέγουσιν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Οἶδας (Know You) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), ἀκούσαντες (having heard) τὸν (the) λόγον (saying), ἐσκανδαλίσθησαν (were offended)?”

¹⁹ Τότε (Then) προσελθόντες (having come) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private), εἶπον (they said), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἡμεῖς (we) οὐκ (not) ἠδυνήθημεν (were able) ἐκβαλεῖν (to cast out) αὐτό (it)?”

¹ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἤγγισαν (they drew near) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) καὶ (and) ἦλθον (came) εἰς (to) Βηθφαγὴ (Bethphage) εἰς (on) τὸ (the) ὄρος (Mount) τῶν (-) Ἐλαιῶν (of Olives), τότε (then) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀπέστειλεν (sent) δύο (two) μαθητὰς (disciples),

²⁷ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀστραπὴ (lightning) ἐξέρχεται (comes forth) ἀπὸ (from the) ἀνατολῶν (east) καὶ (and) φαίνεται (shines) ἕως (as far as the) δυσμῶν (west), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

³² Ἀπὸ (Of) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) συκῆς (fig tree) μάθετε (learn) τὴν (the) παραβολήν (parable): ὅταν (When) ἤδη (already) ὁ (the) κλάδος (branch) αὐτῆς (of it) γένηται (may have become) ἁπαλὸς (tender) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) φύλλα (leaves) ἐκφύῃ (it puts forth), γινώσκετε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἐγγὺς (near is) τὸ (the) θέρος (summer). ³³ οὕτως (Thus) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you), ὅταν (when) ἴδητε (you see) πάντα (all) ταῦτα (these things), γινώσκετε (know) ὅτι (that) ἐγγύς (near) ἐστιν (He is), ἐπὶ (at) θύραις (the doors).

³⁷ ὥσπερ (As were) γὰρ (for) αἱ (the) ἡμέραι (days) τοῦ (-) Νῶε (of Noah), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

³⁹ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔγνωσαν (they knew), ἕως (until) ἦλθεν (came) ὁ (the) κατακλυσμὸς (flood) καὶ (and) ἦρεν (took away) ἅπαντας (all); οὕτως (thus) ἔσται (will be) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) παρουσία (coming) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

⁴³ ἐκεῖνο (This) δὲ (then) γινώσκετε (know), ὅτι (that) εἰ (if) ᾔδει (had known) ὁ (the) οἰκοδεσπότης (master of the house) ποίᾳ (in what) φυλακῇ (time of night) ὁ (the) κλέπτης (thief) ἔρχεται (comes), ἐγρηγόρησεν (he would have watched) ἂν (-) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἂν (-) εἴασεν (have allowed) διορυχθῆναι (to be broken into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²⁰ διδάσκοντες (teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) τηρεῖν (to observe) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (whatever) ἐνετειλάμην (I commanded) ὑμῖν (you). καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἐγὼ (I) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) εἰμι (am) πάσας (all) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days), ἕως (until) τῆς (the) συντελείας (completion) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age).”

³ Καὶ (And) καθημένου (sitting) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (upon) τὸ (the) ὄρος (Mount) τῶν (-) Ἐλαιῶν (of Olives), κατέναντι (opposite) τοῦ (the) ἱεροῦ (temple), ἐπηρώτα (asked) αὐτὸν (Him) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John) καὶ (and) Ἀνδρέας (Andrew), ⁴ “Εἰπὸν (Tell) ἡμῖν (us) πότε (when) ταῦτα (these things) ἔσται (will be)? καὶ (And) τί (what will be) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) ὅταν (when) μέλλῃ (are going) ταῦτα (these things) συντελεῖσθαι (to be accomplished) πάντα (all)?”

⁷ Ἐπηρώτησαν (They asked) δὲ (then) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), πότε (when) οὖν (then) ταῦτα (these things) ἔσται (will be), καὶ (and) τί (what will be) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) ὅταν (when) μέλλῃ (are about) ταῦτα (these things) γίνεσθαι (to take place)?”

²¹ τοῦτον (Him) οὖν (therefore) ἰδὼν (having seen), ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) λέγει (says) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus), “Κύριε (Lord), οὗτος (this man) δὲ (and) τί (what about)?” ²² Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἐὰν (If) αὐτὸν (him) θέλω (I desire) μένειν (to remain) ἕως (until) ἔρχομαι (I come), τί (what is it) πρὸς (to) σέ (you)? σύ (You) μοι (Me) ἀκολούθει (follow)!”

⁷ Εἶπεν (He said) ‹δὲ› (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Οὐχ (Not) ὑμῶν (yours) ἐστιν (it is) γνῶναι (to know) χρόνους (times) ἢ (or) καιροὺς (seasons) οὓς (which) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἔθετο (put in place) ἐν (by) τῇ (-) ἰδίᾳ (His own) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority).

¹ Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῶν (the) χρόνων (times) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) καιρῶν (seasons), ἀδελφοί (brothers), οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχετε (you have) ὑμῖν (to you) γράφεσθαι (to be written). ² αὐτοὶ (Yourselves) γὰρ (for) ἀκριβῶς (fully) οἴδατε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ὡς (as) κλέπτης (a thief) ἐν (by) νυκτὶ (night), οὕτως (in this manner) ἔρχεται (comes). ³ ὅταν (For when) λέγωσιν (they might say), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) καὶ (and) ἀσφάλεια (security),” τότε (then) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) αὐτοῖς (upon them) ἐφίσταται* (comes) ὄλεθρος (destruction), ὥσπερ (as) ἡ (the) ὠδὶν (labor pains) τῇ (to her) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἐχούσῃ (having); καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐκφύγωσιν (shall they escape). ⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) δέ (however), ἀδελφοί (brothers), οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (are) ἐν (in) σκότει (darkness), ἵνα (that) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) ὑμᾶς (you) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief) καταλάβῃ (should overtake). ⁵ πάντες (All) γὰρ (for) ὑμεῖς (you), υἱοὶ (sons) φωτός (of light) ἐστε (are), καὶ (and) υἱοὶ (sons) ἡμέρας (of day). Οὐκ (Not) ἐσμὲν (we are) νυκτὸς (of night) οὐδὲ (nor) σκότους (of darkness). ⁶ ἄρα (So) οὖν (then) μὴ (not) καθεύδωμεν (we should sleep) ὡς (as) οἱ (the) λοιποί (others), ἀλλὰ (but) γρηγορῶμεν (we should watch) καὶ (and) νήφωμεν (we should be sober). ⁷ οἱ (Those) γὰρ (for) καθεύδοντες (sleeping), νυκτὸς (by night) καθεύδουσιν (sleep); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) μεθυσκόμενοι (becoming drunk), νυκτὸς (by night) μεθύουσιν (get drunk). ⁸ ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however), ἡμέρας (of the day) ὄντες (being), νήφωμεν (should be sober), ἐνδυσάμενοι (having put on) θώρακα (the breastplate) πίστεως (of faith) καὶ (and) ἀγάπης (love), καὶ (and) περικεφαλαίαν (the helmet) ἐλπίδα (the hope) σωτηρίας (of salvation), ⁹ ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔθετο (has destined) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) εἰς (for) ὀργὴν (wrath), ἀλλὰ (but) εἰς (for) περιποίησιν (obtaining) σωτηρίας (salvation) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ¹⁰ τοῦ (the One) ἀποθανόντος (having died) περὶ (for) ἡμῶν (us), ἵνα (so that) εἴτε (whether) γρηγορῶμεν (we might watch) εἴτε (or) καθεύδωμεν (we might sleep), ἅμα (together) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) ζήσωμεν (we may live). ¹¹ Διὸ (Therefore) παρακαλεῖτε (encourage) ἀλλήλους (one another) καὶ (and) οἰκοδομεῖτε (build up) εἷς (one) τὸν (-) ἕνα (another), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ποιεῖτε (you are doing).

²⁶ Ἐπεὶ (Otherwise) ἔδει (it was necessary for) αὐτὸν (Him) πολλάκις (repeatedly) παθεῖν (to have suffered) ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world). νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however) ἅπαξ (once) ἐπὶ (in) συντελείᾳ (the consummation) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), εἰς (for) ἀθέτησιν (the putting away) τῆς (of) ἁμαρτίας (sin), διὰ (by) τῆς (the) θυσίας (sacrifice) αὐτοῦ (of Himself) πεφανέρωται (He has been revealed).
