¹ Ἐν (In) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐκείνῃ (that), ἐξελθὼν (having gone forth) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τῆς (from the) οἰκίας (house), ἐκάθητο (was sitting) παρὰ (by) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea).

²⁸ Ἐλθόντι (Having come) δὲ (now) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house), προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) τυφλοί (blind men), καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Πιστεύετε (Believe you) ὅτι (that) δύναμαι (I am able) τοῦτο (this) ποιῆσαι (to do)?” Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ναί (Yes), Κύριε (Lord).”

¹ Ἐν (In) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐκείνῃ (that), ἐξελθὼν (having gone forth) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τῆς (from the) οἰκίας (house), ἐκάθητο (was sitting) παρὰ (by) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). ² καὶ (And) συνήχθησαν (were gathered together) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄχλοι (crowds) πολλοί (great), ὥστε (so that) αὐτὸν (He) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat) ἐμβάντα (having entered) καθῆσθαι (sat down), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) ἐπὶ (on) τὸν (the) αἰγιαλὸν (shore) εἱστήκει (stood). ³ Καὶ (And) ἐλάλησεν (He spoke) αὐτοῖς (to them) πολλὰ (many things) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables), λέγων (saying), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) τοῦ (-) σπείρειν (to sow). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) σπείρειν (sowing) αὐτὸν (of him), ἃ (some) μὲν (indeed) ἔπεσεν (fell) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), καὶ (and) ἐλθόντα (having come), τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτά (them). ⁵ Ἄλλα (Other) δὲ (now) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰ (the) πετρώδη (rocky places), ὅπου (where) οὐκ (not) εἶχεν (it had) γῆν (soil) πολλήν (much), καὶ (and) εὐθέως (immediately) ἐξανέτειλεν (it sprang up), διὰ (through) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) βάθος (depth) γῆς (of soil); ⁶ ἡλίου (the sun) δὲ (now) ἀνατείλαντος (having risen), ἐκαυματίσθη (they were scorched), καὶ (and) διὰ (through) τὸ (the) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) ῥίζαν (root), ἐξηράνθη (were dried up). ⁷ Ἄλλα (Other) δὲ (now) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰς (the) ἀκάνθας (thorns), καὶ (and) ἀνέβησαν (grew up) αἱ (the) ἄκανθαι (thorns), καὶ (and) ἔπνιξαν* (choked) αὐτά (them). ⁸ Ἄλλα (Other) δὲ (now) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) καλὴν (good), καὶ (and) ἐδίδου (were yielding) καρπόν (fruit), ὃ (some) μὲν (indeed) ἑκατὸν (a hundredfold), ὃ (some) δὲ (now) ἑξήκοντα (sixty), ὃ (some) δὲ (now) τριάκοντα (thirty). ⁹ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) ὦτα (ears), ἀκουέτω (let him hear)!” ¹⁰ Καὶ (And) προσελθόντες (having come to Him), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖς (speak You) αὐτοῖς (to them)?” ¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) ‹αὐτοῖς› (to them), “Ὅτι (Because) Ὑμῖν (to you) δέδοται (it has been granted) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); ἐκείνοις (to them) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) δέδοται (it has been granted). ¹² ὅστις (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἔχει (has), δοθήσεται (will be given) αὐτῷ (to him), καὶ (and) περισσευθήσεται (he will be in abundance); ὅστις (whoever) δὲ (now) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), καὶ (even) ὃ (what) ἔχει (he has) ἀρθήσεται (will be taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him). ¹³ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) αὐτοῖς (to them) λαλῶ (I speak): ‘Ὅτι (Because) βλέποντες (seeing), οὐ (not) βλέπουσιν (do they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), οὐκ (not) ἀκούουσιν (do they hear), οὐδὲ (nor) συνίουσιν (do they understand).’ ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ἀναπληροῦται (is fulfilled) αὐτοῖς (in them) ἡ (the) προφητεία (prophecy) Ἠσαΐου (of Isaiah), ἡ (-) λέγουσα (saying): ‘Ἀκοῇ (In hearing) ἀκούσετε (you will hear), καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) συνῆτε (understand); Καὶ (and) βλέποντες (seeing) βλέψετε (you will see) καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἴδητε (perceive). ¹⁵ Ἐπαχύνθη (Has grown dull) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) τούτου (this), Καὶ (and) τοῖς (with the) ὠσὶν (ears) βαρέως (barely) ἤκουσαν (they have heard), Καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκάμμυσαν (they have closed); Μή‿ (not) ποτε (lest) ἴδωσιν (they should see) τοῖς (with the) ὀφθαλμοῖς (eyes), Καὶ (and) τοῖς (with the) ὠσὶν (ears) ἀκούσωσιν (they should hear), Καὶ (and) τῇ (with the) καρδίᾳ (heart) συνῶσιν (they should understand), Καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψωσιν (should return), Καὶ (and) ἰάσομαι (I will heal) αὐτούς (them).’

³⁶ Τότε (Then) ἀφεὶς (having dismissed) τοὺς (the) ὄχλους (crowds), ἦλθεν (He went) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house). Καὶ (And) προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Διασάφησον (Explain) ἡμῖν (to us) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) τῶν (of the) ζιζανίων (weeds) τοῦ (of the) ἀγροῦ (field).”

¹³ Καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (He went forth) πάλιν (again) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) ἤρχετο (was coming) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) ἐδίδασκεν (He taught) αὐτούς (them).

¹ Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again), ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). καὶ (And) συνάγεται (was gathered together) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πλεῖστος (great), ὥστε (so that) αὐτὸν (He) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat) ἐμβάντα (having entered), καθῆσθαι (sat) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θαλάσσῃ (sea), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) πρὸς (close to) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (land) ἦσαν (was). ² Καὶ (And) ἐδίδασκεν (He began teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλά (many things), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ³ “Ἀκούετε (Listen)! ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) σπεῖραι (to sow). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (as) τῷ (-) σπείρειν (he sowed), ὃ (some) μὲν (-) ἔπεσεν (fell) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτό (it). ⁵ Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) πετρῶδες (rocky place), ὅπου (where) οὐκ (not) εἶχεν (it had) γῆν (soil) πολλήν (much), καὶ (and) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἐξανέτειλεν (it sprang up), διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) βάθος (depth) γῆς (of soil). ⁶ καὶ (And) ὅτε (after) ἀνέτειλεν (rose) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), ἐκαυματίσθη (it was scorched), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) ῥίζαν (root), ἐξηράνθη (it withered away). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (among) τὰς (the) ἀκάνθας (thorns), καὶ (and) ἀνέβησαν (grew up) αἱ (the) ἄκανθαι (thorns), καὶ (and) συνέπνιξαν (choked) αὐτό (it), καὶ (and) καρπὸν (fruit) οὐκ (no) ἔδωκεν (it yielded). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἄλλα (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) καλήν (good), καὶ (and) ἐδίδου (began yielding) καρπὸν (fruit), ἀναβαίνοντα (growing up) καὶ (and) αὐξανόμενα (increasing), καὶ (and) ἔφερεν (bearing) ἓν* (one) τριάκοντα (thirtyfold), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑξήκοντα (sixty), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑκατόν (a hundred).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying), “Ὃς (He who) ἔχει (has) ὦτα (ears) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἀκουέτω (let him hear).” ¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἐγένετο (He was) κατὰ (with) μόνας (alone), ἠρώτων (began asking) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (those) περὶ (around) αὐτὸν (Him) σὺν (with) τοῖς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve) τὰς (about the) παραβολάς (parable). ¹¹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμῖν (To you) τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) δέδοται (has been given) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ἐκείνοις (To those) δὲ (however) τοῖς (who are) ἔξω (outside), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὰ (-) πάντα (everything) γίνεται (is done), ¹² ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), βλέπωσιν (they might see) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἴδωσιν (perceive); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), ἀκούωσιν (they might hear) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (understand); Μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) ἐπιστρέψωσιν (they should turn), Καὶ (and) ἀφεθῇ (should be forgiven) αὐτοῖς (them).’”

⁴ Συνιόντος (As is assembling) δὲ (now) ὄχλου (a crowd) πολλοῦ (great), καὶ (and) τῶν (those) κατὰ (from each) πόλιν (town) ἐπιπορευομένων (are coming) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him), εἶπεν (He spoke) διὰ (by) παραβολῆς (a parable): ⁵ “Ἐξῆλθεν (Went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) τοῦ (-) σπεῖραι (to sow) τὸν (the) σπόρον (seed) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σπείρειν (sowing) αὐτὸν (of him), ὃ (some) μὲν (indeed) ἔπεσεν (fell) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), καὶ (and) κατεπατήθη (it was trampled upon), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτό (it). ⁶ Καὶ (And) ἕτερον (other) κατέπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) πέτραν (rock), καὶ (and) φυὲν (having sprung up) ἐξηράνθη (it withered) διὰ (through) τὸ (-) μὴ (no) ἔχειν (having) ἰκμάδα (moisture). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἕτερον (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) ἀκανθῶν (thorns), καὶ (and) συμφυεῖσαι (having sprung up with it), αἱ (the) ἄκανθαι (thorns) ἀπέπνιξαν (choked) αὐτό (it). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἕτερον (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) ἀγαθήν (good), καὶ (and) φυὲν (having sprung up), ἐποίησεν (it produced) καρπὸν (fruit) ἑκατονταπλασίονα (a hundredfold).” Ταῦτα (These things) λέγων (saying), ἐφώνει (He was calling out), “Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) ὦτα (ears) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἀκουέτω (let him hear).” ⁹ Ἐπηρώτων (Were asking) δὲ (then) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Τίς (What) αὕτη (this) εἴη (means), ἡ (the) παραβολή (parable)?” ¹⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Ὑμῖν (To you) δέδοται (it has been given) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); τοῖς (to) δὲ (however) λοιποῖς (the rest), ἐν (it is in) παραβολαῖς (parables), ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), μὴ (not) βλέπωσιν (may they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (may they understand).’
