²⁰ ἄρα¦γε (Then surely) ἀπὸ (by) τῶν (the) καρπῶν (fruits) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπιγνώσεσθε (you will know) αὐτούς (them). ²¹ Οὐ (Not) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) λέγων (saying) μοι (to Me), ‘Κύριε (Lord), Κύριε (Lord),’ εἰσελεύσεται (will enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens), ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (the one) ποιῶν (doing) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).

⁵ Ἔτι (While yet) αὐτοῦ (he) λαλοῦντος (was speaking), ἰδοὺ (behold), νεφέλη (a cloud) φωτεινὴ (bright) ἐπεσκίασεν (overshadowed) αὐτούς (them); καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I am well pleased). ἀκούετε (Listen) αὐτοῦ (to Him)!”

⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) ἐρεῖ (will say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (as much as) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) μου (of Me) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (you did it).’

⁴⁵ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσεται (will He answer) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (that) οὐκ (not) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), οὐδὲ (neither) ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (did you).’

¹⁰ τότε (Then) λέγει (says) αὐταῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) φοβεῖσθε (fear). ὑπάγετε (Go), ἀπαγγείλατε (tell) τοῖς (the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers), μου (of Me) ἵνα (so that) ἀπέλθωσιν (they should go) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee), κἀκεῖ (and there) με (Me) ὄψονται (will they see).”

³⁵ ὃς (Whoever) ‹γὰρ› (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), οὗτος (he) ἀδελφός (brother) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister), καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).”

²¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Μήτηρ (Mother) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), οὗτοί (those) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (who) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἀκούοντες (are hearing) καὶ (and) ποιοῦντες (doing).”

²⁷ Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then), ἐν (in) τῷ (-) λέγειν (saying) αὐτὸν (His) ταῦτα (these things), ἐπάρασά (having lifted up) τις (one) φωνὴν (her voice), γυνὴ (a woman) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) ὄχλου (crowd) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Μακαρία (Blessed is) ἡ (the) κοιλία (womb) ἡ (-) βαστάσασά (having borne) σε (You), καὶ (and) μαστοὶ (the breasts) οὓς (at which) ἐθήλασας (You nursed).” ²⁸ Αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (then) εἶπεν (said), “Μενοῦν (No rather), μακάριοι (blessed are) οἱ (those) ἀκούοντες (hearing) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) φυλάσσοντες (keeping it).”

²⁹ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τοῦτό (This) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (that) πιστεύητε (you should believe) εἰς (in) ὃν (Him whom) ἀπέστειλεν (has sent) ἐκεῖνος (He).”

⁴⁰ τοῦτο (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), ἵνα (that) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) θεωρῶν (beholding) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) αὐτὸν (Him) ἔχῃ (should have) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal), καὶ (and) ἀναστήσω (will raise up) αὐτὸν (him) ἐγὼ (I) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day).”

¹⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) φίλοι (friends) μού (of Me) ἐστε (are) ἐὰν (if) ποιῆτε (you do) ἃ* (what) ἐγὼ (I) ἐντέλλομαι (command) ὑμῖν (you).

²⁶ Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὖν (therefore), ἰδὼν (having seen) τὴν (His) μητέρα (mother) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) μαθητὴν (disciple) παρεστῶτα (standing by) ὃν (whom) ἠγάπα (He loved), λέγει (says) τῇ (to) μητρί (His mother), “Γύναι (Woman), ἴδε (behold), ὁ (the) υἱός (son) σου (of you).” ²⁷ εἶτα (Then) λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) μαθητῇ (disciple), “Ἴδε (Behold) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) σου (of you).” καὶ (And) ἀπ’ (from) ἐκείνης (that) τῆς (-) ὥρας (hour) ἔλαβεν (took) ὁ (the) μαθητὴς (disciple) αὐτὴν (her) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἴδια (own).

¹⁷ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μή (Not) μου (Me) ἅπτου (touch), οὔπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ἀναβέβηκα (have I ascended) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father); πορεύου (go) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) εἰπὲ (say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀναβαίνω (I am ascending) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Πατέρα (Father) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and to) Θεόν (God) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Θεὸν (God) ὑμῶν (of you).’”

²² Μωϋσῆς (Moses) μὲν (indeed) εἶπεν (said) ὅτι (-), ‘Προφήτην (A prophet) ὑμῖν (to you) ἀναστήσει (will raise up) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) [ὑμῶν] (of you) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) ὑμῶν (of you), ὡς (like) ἐμέ (me); αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀκούσεσθε (You will listen to) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (as many as) ἂν (-) λαλήσῃ (He might say) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you). ²³ ἔσται (It will be that) δὲ (now) πᾶσα (every) ψυχὴ (soul) ἥτις (who), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ἀκούσῃ (might heed) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet) ἐκείνου (that), ἐξολεθρευθήσεται (will be utterly destroyed) ἐκ (out from) τοῦ (the) λαοῦ (people).’

³⁰ καὶ (And) προαγαγὼν (having brought) αὐτοὺς (them) ἔξω (out) ἔφη (he was saying), “Κύριοι (Sirs), τί (what) με (of me) δεῖ (is necessary) ποιεῖν (to do), ἵνα (that) σωθῶ (I may be saved)?” ³¹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said), “Πίστευσον (Believe) ἐπὶ (on) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), καὶ (and) σωθήσῃ (you will be saved), σὺ (you) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) οἶκός (household) σου (of you).”

³⁰ Τοὺς (The) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) χρόνους (times) τῆς (-) ἀγνοίας (of ignorance) ὑπεριδὼν (having overlooked) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), τὰ (-) νῦν (now) παραγγέλλει* (He commands) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (men) πάντας (all) πανταχοῦ (everywhere) μετανοεῖν (to repent),

²⁰ ἀλλὰ (but) τοῖς (to those) ἐν (in) Δαμασκῷ (Damascus) πρῶτόν (first), τε (both) καὶ (and) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem) πᾶσάν (all), τε (and) τὴν (the) χώραν (region) τῆς (-) Ἰουδαίας (of Judea), καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), ἀπήγγελλον (I kept declaring) μετανοεῖν (to repent) καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέφειν (to turn) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἄξια (worthy) τῆς (-) μετανοίας (of repentance) ἔργα (works) πράσσοντας (doing).

²⁹ ὅτι (For) οὓς (those whom) προέγνω (He foreknew), καὶ (also) προώρισεν (He predestined to be) συμμόρφους (conformed to) τῆς (the) εἰκόνος (image) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) εἶναι (to be) αὐτὸν (Him) πρωτότοκον (firstborn) ἐν (among) πολλοῖς (many) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers).

⁵ μὴ (No) οὐκ (not) ἔχομεν (have we) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἀδελφὴν (a sister), γυναῖκα (a wife), περιάγειν (to take about), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (other) ἀπόστολοι (apostles), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), καὶ (and) Κηφᾶς (Cephas)?

² ζηλῶ (I am jealous as to) γὰρ (for) ὑμᾶς (you) Θεοῦ (of God) ζήλῳ (with the jealousy); ἡρμοσάμην (I have betrothed) γὰρ (for) ὑμᾶς (you) ἑνὶ (to one) ἀνδρὶ (husband), παρθένον (a virgin) ἁγνὴν (pure) παραστῆσαι (to present) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (to Christ).

⁶ ἐν (In) γὰρ (for) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), οὔτε (neither) περιτομή (circumcision) τι (any) ἰσχύει (has power), οὔτε (nor) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision); ἀλλὰ (but only) πίστις (faith) δι’ (through) ἀγάπης (love) ἐνεργουμένη (working).

¹⁵ οὔτε (Neither) γὰρ (for) περιτομή (circumcision) τί (anything) ἐστιν (is), οὔτε (nor) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision); ἀλλὰ (instead) καινὴ (a new) κτίσις (creation).

²⁵ Οἱ (-) ἄνδρες (Husbands), ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τὰς (the) γυναῖκας (wives), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἠγάπησεν (loved) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church) καὶ (and) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) παρέδωκεν (gave up) ὑπὲρ (for) αὐτῆς (her), ²⁶ ἵνα (so that) αὐτὴν (her) ἁγιάσῃ (He might sanctify), καθαρίσας (having cleansed her) τῷ (by the) λουτρῷ (washing) τοῦ (-) ὕδατος (of water) ἐν (by) ῥήματι (the word), ²⁷ ἵνα (so that) παραστήσῃ (might present) αὐτὸς (He) ἑαυτῷ (to Himself) ἔνδοξον (in glory) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church), μὴ (not) ἔχουσαν (having) σπίλον (spot) ἢ (or) ῥυτίδα (wrinkle) ἤ (or) τι (any) τῶν (of the) τοιούτων (such things), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) ᾖ (it would be) ἁγία (holy) καὶ (and) ἄμωμος (blameless).

² πρεσβυτέρας (elder women) ὡς (as) μητέρας (mothers); νεωτέρας (and younger women) ὡς (as) ἀδελφὰς (sisters), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) ἁγνείᾳ (purity).

¹¹ ὅ (The One) τε (both) γὰρ (for) ἁγιάζων (sanctifying), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἁγιαζόμενοι (being sanctified), ἐξ (of) ἑνὸς (one) πάντες (are all); δι’ (for) ἣν (which) αἰτίαν (reason), οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνεται (He is ashamed) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) αὐτοὺς (them) καλεῖν (to call), ¹² λέγων (saying): “Ἀπαγγελῶ (I will declare) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) σου (of You) τοῖς (to the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) μου (of Me); ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) ἐκκλησίας (of the congregation) ὑμνήσω (I will sing praises) σε (of you).” ¹³ Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again): “Ἐγὼ (I) ἔσομαι (will be) πεποιθὼς (trusting) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῷ (Him).” Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐγὼ (I) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) ἅ (whom) μοι (to Me) ἔδωκεν (has given) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).” ¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil), ¹⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπαλλάξῃ (might set free) τούτους (those) ὅσοι (who) φόβῳ (fear) θανάτου (of death) διὰ (through) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (their time) ζῆν (to live), ἔνοχοι (subject) ἦσαν (were) δουλείας (to slavery). ¹⁶ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) δή‿ (surely) που (in that place) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps), ἀλλὰ (but) σπέρματος (the seed) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps). ¹⁷ ὅθεν (Therefore) ὤφειλεν (it behooved Him) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things) τοῖς (His) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) ὁμοιωθῆναι (to be made like), ἵνα (so that) ἐλεήμων (a merciful) γένηται (He might become), καὶ (and) πιστὸς (faithful), ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) τὰ (in things) πρὸς (relating to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ἱλάσκεσθαι (to make propitiation for) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people).

⁹ καὶ (and) τελειωθεὶς (having been perfected), ἐγένετο (He became) πᾶσιν (to all) τοῖς (those) ὑπακούουσιν (obeying) αὐτῷ (Him), αἴτιος (the author) σωτηρίας (of salvation) αἰωνίου (eternal),

²¹ διὸ (Therefore), ἀποθέμενοι (having put aside) πᾶσαν (all) ῥυπαρίαν (filthiness) καὶ (and) περισσείαν (abounding) κακίας (of wickedness), ἐν (in) πραΰτητι (humility) δέξασθε (receive) τὸν (the) ἔμφυτον (implanted) λόγον (word), τὸν (-) δυνάμενον (being able) σῶσαι (to save) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) ὑμῶν (of you). ²² Γίνεσθε (Be) δὲ (however) ποιηταὶ (doers) λόγου (of the word), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἀκροαταὶ (hearers) μόνον (only), παραλογιζόμενοι (deceiving) ἑαυτούς (yourselves),

² εἰς (so as) τὸ (-) μηκέτι (no longer) ἀνθρώπων (to men’s) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires) ἀλλὰ (but) θελήματι (to the will) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸν (the) ἐπίλοιπον (remaining) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (the flesh) βιῶσαι (to live) χρόνον (time).

¹⁷ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) παράγεται (is passing away), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἐπιθυμία (desire) αὐτοῦ (of it); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ποιῶν (doing) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μένει (abides) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age).

²³ καὶ (And) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) ἐντολὴ (commandment) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἵνα (that) πιστεύσωμεν (we should believe) τῷ (in the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), καὶ (and) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), καθὼς (just as) ἔδωκεν (He gave) ἐντολὴν (the commandment) ἡμῖν (to us). ²⁴ καὶ (And) ὁ (the one) τηρῶν (keeping) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) μένει (abides), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (He) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him). καὶ (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι (that) μένει (He abides) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us), ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) οὗ (whom) ἡμῖν (to us) ἔδωκεν (He has given).

¹⁴ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) πλύνοντες (washing) τὰς (the) στολὰς (robes) αὐτῶν (of them), ἵνα (that) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) ἐξουσία (right) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) ξύλον (tree) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), καὶ (and) τοῖς (by the) πυλῶσιν (gates) εἰσέλθωσιν (they shall enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city).
