¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖν (to speak): “Ἀμπελῶνα (A vineyard) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἐφύτευσεν (planted), καὶ (and) περιέθηκεν (he placed around it) φραγμὸν (a fence), καὶ (and) ὤρυξεν (dug) ὑπολήνιον (a wine vat), καὶ (and) ᾠκοδόμησεν (built) πύργον (a tower), καὶ (and) ἐξέδετο (rented out) αὐτὸν (it) γεωργοῖς (to farmers), καὶ (and) ἀπεδήμησεν (traveled abroad).

¹⁰ Καὶ (And) προσελθόντες (having come to Him), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖς (speak You) αὐτοῖς (to them)?” ¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) ‹αὐτοῖς› (to them), “Ὅτι (Because) Ὑμῖν (to you) δέδοται (it has been granted) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); ἐκείνοις (to them) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) δέδοται (it has been granted). ¹² ὅστις (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἔχει (has), δοθήσεται (will be given) αὐτῷ (to him), καὶ (and) περισσευθήσεται (he will be in abundance); ὅστις (whoever) δὲ (now) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), καὶ (even) ὃ (what) ἔχει (he has) ἀρθήσεται (will be taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him). ¹³ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) αὐτοῖς (to them) λαλῶ (I speak): ‘Ὅτι (Because) βλέποντες (seeing), οὐ (not) βλέπουσιν (do they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), οὐκ (not) ἀκούουσιν (do they hear), οὐδὲ (nor) συνίουσιν (do they understand).’ ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ἀναπληροῦται (is fulfilled) αὐτοῖς (in them) ἡ (the) προφητεία (prophecy) Ἠσαΐου (of Isaiah), ἡ (-) λέγουσα (saying): ‘Ἀκοῇ (In hearing) ἀκούσετε (you will hear), καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) συνῆτε (understand); Καὶ (and) βλέποντες (seeing) βλέψετε (you will see) καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἴδητε (perceive). ¹⁵ Ἐπαχύνθη (Has grown dull) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) τούτου (this), Καὶ (and) τοῖς (with the) ὠσὶν (ears) βαρέως (barely) ἤκουσαν (they have heard), Καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκάμμυσαν (they have closed); Μή‿ (not) ποτε (lest) ἴδωσιν (they should see) τοῖς (with the) ὀφθαλμοῖς (eyes), Καὶ (and) τοῖς (with the) ὠσὶν (ears) ἀκούσωσιν (they should hear), Καὶ (and) τῇ (with the) καρδίᾳ (heart) συνῶσιν (they should understand), Καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψωσιν (should return), Καὶ (and) ἰάσομαι (I will heal) αὐτούς (them).’

³⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) πάντα (all) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τοῖς (to the) ὄχλοις (crowds), καὶ (and) χωρὶς (without) παραβολῆς (a parable) οὐδὲν (not) ἐλάλει (He was speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them), ³⁵ ὅπως (so that) πληρωθῇ (might be fulfilled) τὸ (that) ῥηθὲν (having been spoken) διὰ (by) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet), λέγοντος (saying), “Ἀνοίξω (I will open) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) μου (of Me); ἐρεύξομαι (I will utter) κεκρυμμένα (things hidden) ἀπὸ (from the) καταβολῆς (foundation) [κόσμου] (of the world).”

²⁸ Τί (What) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (you) δοκεῖ (think)? ἄνθρωπος (A man) εἶχεν (had) τέκνα (sons) δύο (two), [καὶ] (and) προσελθὼν (having come) τῷ (to the) πρώτῳ (first) εἶπεν (he said), ‘Τέκνον (Son), ὕπαγε (go) σήμερον (today), ἐργάζου (work) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀμπελῶνι (vineyard).’

¹⁴ Ὥσπερ (It is like) γὰρ (for) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀποδημῶν (going on a journey) ἐκάλεσεν (who called) τοὺς (the) ἰδίους (own) δούλους (servants), καὶ (and) παρέδωκεν (delivered) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ὑπάρχοντα (possessing) αὐτοῦ (of him).

² Καὶ (And) ἐδίδασκεν (He began teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλά (many things), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

¹¹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμῖν (To you) τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) δέδοται (has been given) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ἐκείνοις (To those) δὲ (however) τοῖς (who are) ἔξω (outside), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὰ (-) πάντα (everything) γίνεται (is done), ¹² ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), βλέπωσιν (they might see) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἴδωσιν (perceive); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), ἀκούωσιν (they might hear) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (understand); Μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) ἐπιστρέψωσιν (they should turn), Καὶ (and) ἀφεθῇ (should be forgiven) αὐτοῖς (them).’” ¹³ Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (understand you) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this)? καὶ (And) πῶς (how) πάσας (all) τὰς (the) παραβολὰς (parables) γνώσεσθε (will you understand)?

³³ Καὶ (And) τοιαύταις (with such) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλαῖς (many), ἐλάλει (He kept speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), καθὼς (as) ἠδύναντο (they were able) ἀκούειν (to hear). ³⁴ χωρὶς (Without) δὲ (then) παραβολῆς (parables), οὐκ (not) ἐλάλει (would He speak) αὐτοῖς (to them); κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private) δὲ (however), τοῖς (to His) ἰδίοις (own) μαθηταῖς (disciples) ἐπέλυεν (He would explain) πάντα (all things).

¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖν (to speak): “Ἀμπελῶνα (A vineyard) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἐφύτευσεν (planted), καὶ (and) περιέθηκεν (he placed around it) φραγμὸν (a fence), καὶ (and) ὤρυξεν (dug) ὑπολήνιον (a wine vat), καὶ (and) ᾠκοδόμησεν (built) πύργον (a tower), καὶ (and) ἐξέδετο (rented out) αὐτὸν (it) γεωργοῖς (to farmers), καὶ (and) ἀπεδήμησεν (traveled abroad). ² Καὶ (And) ἀπέστειλεν (he sent) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) γεωργοὺς (farmers) τῷ (at the) καιρῷ (due time) δοῦλον (a servant), ἵνα (that) παρὰ (from) τῶν (the) γεωργῶν (farmers) λάβῃ (he might receive) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) καρπῶν (fruit) τοῦ (of the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard). ³ καὶ (But) λαβόντες (having taken) αὐτὸν (him), ἔδειραν (they beat him) καὶ (and) ἀπέστειλαν (sent him away) κενόν (empty-handed). ⁴ Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again) ἀπέστειλεν (he sent) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) ἄλλον (another) δοῦλον (servant), κἀκεῖνον (and him) ἐκεφαλίωσαν (they struck on the head) καὶ (and) ἠτίμασαν (treated shamefully). ⁵ καὶ (And) ἄλλον (another) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent), κἀκεῖνον (and him) ἀπέκτειναν (they killed); καὶ (also) πολλοὺς (many) ἄλλους (others), οὓς (some) μὲν (indeed) δέροντες (beating), οὓς (some) δὲ (then) ἀποκτέννοντες (killing). ⁶ Ἔτι (Yet) ἕνα (one) εἶχεν (having) υἱὸν (son) ἀγαπητόν (beloved), ἀπέστειλεν (he sent) αὐτὸν (him) ἔσχατον (last) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them), λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), ‘Ἐντραπήσονται (They will have respect for) τὸν (the) υἱόν (son) μου (of me).’ ⁷ Ἐκεῖνοι (Those) δὲ (however) οἱ (-) γεωργοὶ (farmers) πρὸς (to) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) εἶπαν (said) ὅτι (-), ‘Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) κληρονόμος (heir); δεῦτε (come), ἀποκτείνωμεν (let us kill) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) ἡμῶν (ours) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) κληρονομία (inheritance).’ ⁸ καὶ (And) λαβόντες (having taken), ἀπέκτειναν (they killed) αὐτόν (him) καὶ (and) ἐξέβαλον (cast forth) αὐτὸν (him) ἔξω (outside) τοῦ (the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard). ⁹ Τί (What) [οὖν] (therefore) ποιήσει (will do) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τοῦ (of the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard)? ἐλεύσεται (He will come) καὶ (and) ἀπολέσει (will destroy) τοὺς (the) γεωργούς (farmers), καὶ (and) δώσει (will give) τὸν (the) ἀμπελῶνα (vineyard) ἄλλοις (to others). ¹⁰ οὐδὲ (Not even) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ταύτην (this) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (the) κεφαλὴν (chief) γωνίας (corner); ¹¹ Παρὰ (from the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἐγένετο (was) αὕτη (this), Καὶ (and) ἔστιν (it is) θαυμαστὴ (marvelous) ἐν (in) ὀφθαλμοῖς (the eyes) ἡμῶν (of us).’?” ¹² Καὶ (And) ἐζήτουν (they were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) κρατῆσαι (to lay hold of), καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd); ἔγνωσαν (they knew) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) πρὸς (against) αὐτοὺς (them) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) εἶπεν (He had spoken). καὶ (And) ἀφέντες (having left) αὐτὸν (Him), ἀπῆλθον (they went away).

³⁴ Ὡς (It is like) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀπόδημος (going on a journey), ἀφεὶς (having left) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) δοὺς (having given) τοῖς (the) δούλοις (servants) αὐτοῦ (of him) τὴν (-) ἐξουσίαν (authority), ἑκάστῳ (to each one) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) τῷ (the) θυρωρῷ (doorkeeper) ἐνετείλατο (he commanded) ἵνα (that) γρηγορῇ (he should keep watch).

¹⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Ὑμῖν (To you) δέδοται (it has been given) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); τοῖς (to) δὲ (however) λοιποῖς (the rest), ἐν (it is in) παραβολαῖς (parables), ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), μὴ (not) βλέπωσιν (may they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (may they understand).’

⁶ Ἔλεγεν (He was speaking) δὲ (then) ταύτην (this) τὴν (-) παραβολήν (parable): “Συκῆν (A fig tree) εἶχέν (had) τις (a certain man) πεφυτευμένην (planted) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀμπελῶνι (vineyard) αὐτοῦ (of him); καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (he came) ζητῶν (seeking) καρπὸν (fruit) ἐν (on) αὐτῇ (it), καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὗρεν (did find any). ⁷ εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) ἀμπελουργόν (vinedresser), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold), τρία (three) ἔτη (years) ἀφ’ (throughout) οὗ (these) ἔρχομαι (I come) ζητῶν (seeking) καρπὸν (fruit) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) συκῇ (fig tree) ταύτῃ (this), καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὑρίσκω (do find any). ἔκκοψον (Cut down) [οὖν] (therefore) αὐτήν (it), ἵνα‿ (that) τί (why) καὶ (even) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground) καταργεῖ (should it use up)?’ ⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), λέγει (he says) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Κύριε (Sir), ἄφες (let alone) αὐτὴν (it) καὶ (also) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (the) ἔτος (year), ἕως (until) ὅτου (when) σκάψω (I shall dig) περὶ (around) αὐτὴν (it), καὶ (and) βάλω (put in) κόπρια (manure), ⁹ κἂν (and if) μὲν (indeed) ποιήσῃ (it should bear) καρπὸν (fruit) εἰς (in) τὸ (the time), μέλλον (so be it). εἰ (If) δὲ (however) μή¦γε (not), ἐκκόψεις (you will cut down) αὐτήν (it).’”

¹³ Καὶ (And) μετ’ (after) οὐ (not) πολλὰς (many) ἡμέρας (days), συναγαγὼν (having gathered together) πάντα (all), ὁ (the) νεώτερος (younger) υἱὸς (son) ἀπεδήμησεν (went away) εἰς (into) χώραν (a country) μακράν (distant), καὶ (and) ἐκεῖ (there) διεσκόρπισεν (he wasted) τὴν (the) οὐσίαν (estate) αὐτοῦ (of him), ζῶν (living) ἀσώτως (prodigally).

¹² εἶπεν (He said) οὖν (therefore), “Ἄνθρωπός (A man) τις (certain) εὐγενὴς (of noble birth) ἐπορεύθη (proceeded) εἰς (to) χώραν (a country) μακρὰν (distant), λαβεῖν (to receive) ἑαυτῷ (for himself) βασιλείαν (a kingdom) καὶ (and) ὑποστρέψαι (to return).

⁹ Ἤρξατο (He began) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) λαὸν (people) λέγειν (to speak) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this): “Ἄνθρωπος (A man) [τις] (certain) ἐφύτευσεν (planted) ἀμπελῶνα (a vineyard), καὶ (and) ἐξέδετο (rented) αὐτὸν (it) γεωργοῖς (to farmers), καὶ (and) ἀπεδήμησεν (went abroad) χρόνους (a time) ἱκανούς (long). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) καιρῷ (in the season), ἀπέστειλεν (he sent) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) γεωργοὺς (farmers) δοῦλον (a servant), ἵνα (that) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) καρποῦ (fruit) τοῦ (of the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard) δώσουσιν (they will give) αὐτῷ (to him). οἱ (-) δὲ (But) γεωργοὶ (the farmers) ἐξαπέστειλαν (sent away) αὐτὸν (him), δείραντες (having beaten him), κενόν (empty-handed). ¹¹ Καὶ (And) προσέθετο (he proceeded) ἕτερον (another) πέμψαι (to send) δοῦλον (a servant); οἱ (-) δὲ (but) κἀκεῖνον (him) δείραντες (having beaten) καὶ (and) ἀτιμάσαντες (having dishonored), ἐξαπέστειλαν (they sent away) κενόν (empty-handed). ¹² Καὶ (And) προσέθετο (he proceeded) τρίτον (a third) πέμψαι (to send); οἱ (-) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) τοῦτον (him) τραυματίσαντες (having wounded), ἐξέβαλον (they cast out). ¹³ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τοῦ (of the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard), ‘Τί (What) ποιήσω (shall I do)? πέμψω (I will send) τὸν (the) υἱόν (son) μου (of me), τὸν (the) ἀγαπητόν (beloved); ἴσως (perhaps) τοῦτον (him) ἐντραπήσονται (they will respect).’ ¹⁴ Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now) αὐτὸν (him), οἱ (the) γεωργοὶ (farmers) διελογίζοντο (began reasoning) πρὸς (among) ἀλλήλους (themselves), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) κληρονόμος (heir); ἀποκτείνωμεν (let us kill) αὐτόν (him), ἵνα (so that) ἡμῶν (ours) γένηται (might become) ἡ (the) κληρονομία (inheritance).’ ¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐκβαλόντες (having cast forth) αὐτὸν (him) ἔξω (outside) τοῦ (the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard), ἀπέκτειναν (they killed him). Τί (What) οὖν (therefore) ποιήσει (will do) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τοῦ (of the) ἀμπελῶνος (vineyard)? ¹⁶ ἐλεύσεται (He will come) καὶ (and) ἀπολέσει (will destroy) τοὺς (the) γεωργοὺς (farmers) τούτους (these), καὶ (and) δώσει (will give) τὸν (the) ἀμπελῶνα (vineyard) ἄλλοις (to others).” Ἀκούσαντες (Having heard it), δὲ (then) εἶπαν (they said), “Μὴ (Never) γένοιτο (may it be)!” ¹⁷ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἐμβλέψας (having looked at) αὐτοῖς (them), εἶπεν (He said), “Τί (What) οὖν (then) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (that) γεγραμμένον (has been written) τοῦτο (this): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (the head) γωνίας (of the corner)’? ¹⁸ Πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (-) πεσὼν (falling) ἐπ’ (on) ἐκεῖνον (that) τὸν (-) λίθον (stone) συνθλασθήσεται (will be broken); ἐφ’ (on) ὃν (whomever) δ’ (but) ἂν (-) πέσῃ (it might fall), λικμήσει (it will grind into powder) αὐτόν (him).” ¹⁹ Καὶ (And) ἐζήτησαν (sought) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) ἐπιβαλεῖν (to lay) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτὸν (Him) τὰς (-) χεῖρας (hands) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (that) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour); καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τὸν (the) λαόν (people); ἔγνωσαν (they perceived) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) πρὸς (against) αὐτοὺς (them) εἶπεν (He was speaking) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this).

⁹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ποῦ (Where) θέλεις (will You) ἑτοιμάσωμεν (we should prepare)?”

¹ Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ἡ (the) ἄμπελος (vine) ἡ (-) ἀληθινή (true), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) γεωργός (vinedresser) ἐστιν (is). ² πᾶν (Every) κλῆμα (branch) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) μὴ (not) φέρον (bearing) καρπὸν (fruit), αἴρει (He takes away) αὐτό (it); καὶ (and) πᾶν (every one) τὸ (-) καρπὸν (fruit) φέρον (bearing), καθαίρει (He prunes) αὐτὸ (it), ἵνα (that) καρπὸν (fruit) πλείονα (more) φέρῃ (it may bear). ³ ἤδη (Already) ὑμεῖς (you) καθαροί (clean) ἐστε (are) διὰ (by reason of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) ὃν (that) λελάληκα (I have spoken) ὑμῖν (to you). ⁴ μείνατε (Abide) ἐν (in) ἐμοί (Me), κἀγὼ (and I) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you). καθὼς (As) τὸ (the) κλῆμα (branch) οὐ (not) δύναται (is able) καρπὸν (fruit) φέρειν (to bear) ἀφ’ (of) ἑαυτοῦ (itself), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μένῃ (it abide) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀμπέλῳ (vine), οὕτως (so) οὐδὲ (neither can) ὑμεῖς (you), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) μένητε (you abide). ⁵ Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ἡ (the) ἄμπελος (vine); ὑμεῖς (you are) τὰ (the) κλήματα (branches). ὁ (The one) μένων (abiding) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me), κἀγὼ (and I) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him), οὗτος (he) φέρει (bears) καρπὸν (fruit) πολύν (much). ὅτι (For) χωρὶς (apart from) ἐμοῦ (Me) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (you are able) ποιεῖν (to do) οὐδέν (nothing). ⁶ ἐὰν (If) μή (not) τις (anyone) μένῃ (abide) ἐν (in) ἐμοί (Me), ἐβλήθη (he is thrown) ἔξω (out) ὡς (like) τὸ (the) κλῆμα (branch) καὶ (and) ἐξηράνθη (is dried up), καὶ (and) συνάγουσιν (they gather) αὐτὰ (them) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) βάλλουσιν (cast), καὶ (and) καίεται (it is burned). ⁷ ἐὰν (If) μείνητε (you abide) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ῥήματά (words) μου (of Me) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) μείνῃ (abide), ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) θέλητε (you wish), αἰτήσασθε (you shall ask), καὶ (and) γενήσεται (it will come to pass) ὑμῖν (to you). ⁸ ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐδοξάσθη (is glorified) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me), ἵνα (that) καρπὸν (fruit) πολὺν (much) φέρητε (you should bear), καὶ (and) γένησθε* (you shall be) ἐμοὶ (to Me) μαθηταί (disciples).

³⁸ οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the one) γενόμενος (having been) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (congregation) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness), μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) ἀγγέλου (angel) τοῦ (-) λαλοῦντος (speaking) αὐτῷ (to him) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὄρει (Mount) Σινᾶ (Sinai), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) πατέρων (fathers) ἡμῶν (of us), ὃς (who) ἐδέξατο (received) λόγια (oracles) ζῶντα (living) δοῦναι (to give) ἡμῖν* (to us),

⁴⁶ ὃς (who) εὗρεν (found) χάριν (favor) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) καὶ (and) ᾐτήσατο (asked) εὑρεῖν (to find) σκήνωμα (a dwelling place) τῷ (for the) Θεῷ (God) Ἰακώβ (of Jacob). ⁴⁷ Σολομῶν (Solomon) δὲ (however) οἰκοδόμησεν (built) αὐτῷ (Him) οἶκον (the house).

¹ Τί (What) οὖν (then is) τὸ (the) περισσὸν (superiority) τοῦ (of the) Ἰουδαίου (Jew)? ἢ (Or) τίς (what is) ἡ (the) ὠφέλεια (benefit) τῆς (of the) περιτομῆς (circumcision)? ² πολὺ (Much) κατὰ (in) πάντα (every) τρόπον (way). πρῶτον (Chiefly) μὲν (indeed) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) ἐπιστεύθησαν (they were entrusted with) τὰ (the) λόγια (oracles) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁴ οἵτινές (who) εἰσιν (are) Ἰσραηλῖται (Israelites), ὧν (whose is) ἡ (the) υἱοθεσία (divine adoption as sons), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) διαθῆκαι (covenants), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) νομοθεσία (lawgiving), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) λατρεία (service), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) ἐπαγγελίαι (promises); ⁵ ὧν (whose are) οἱ (the) πατέρες (patriarchs); καὶ (and) ἐξ (from) ὧν (whom is) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) τὸ (-) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (the flesh), ὁ (-) ὢν (being) ἐπὶ (over) πάντων (all) Θεὸς (God), εὐλογητὸς (blessed) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

¹⁷ Εἰ (If) δέ (however) τινες (some) τῶν (of the) κλάδων (branches) ἐξεκλάσθησαν (were broken off), σὺ (you) δὲ (now), ἀγριέλαιος (a wild olive tree) ὢν (being), ἐνεκεντρίσθης (were grafted in) ἐν (among) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) συνκοινωνὸς (a fellow-partaker) τῆς (of the) ῥίζης (root) τῆς (of the) πιότητος (fatness) τῆς (of the) ἐλαίας (olive tree) ἐγένου (have become), ¹⁸ μὴ (not) κατακαυχῶ (boast over) τῶν (the) κλάδων (branches). εἰ (If) δὲ (now) κατακαυχᾶσαι (you boast against them), οὐ (not) σὺ (you) τὴν (the) ῥίζαν (root) βαστάζεις (support), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡ (the) ῥίζα (root) σέ (you). ¹⁹ Ἐρεῖς (You will say) οὖν (then), “Ἐξεκλάσθησαν (Were broken off) κλάδοι (branches), ἵνα (that) ἐγὼ (I) ἐγκεντρισθῶ (might be grafted in).” ²⁰ καλῶς (Rightly so); τῇ (by the) ἀπιστίᾳ (unbelief) ἐξεκλάσθησαν (they were broken off); σὺ (you) δὲ (however) τῇ (-) πίστει (by faith) ἕστηκας (stand). μὴ (Not) ὑψηλὰ (high) φρόνει (be minded), ἀλλὰ (but) φοβοῦ (be afraid). ²¹ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τῶν (the) κατὰ (according to) φύσιν (nature) κλάδων (branches) οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (spared), [μή (not) πως] (at all) οὐδὲ (neither) σοῦ (you) φείσεται (will He spare). ²² ἴδε (Behold) οὖν (therefore) χρηστότητα (the kindness) καὶ (and) ἀποτομίαν (severity) Θεοῦ (of God); ἐπὶ (upon) μὲν (indeed) τοὺς (those) πεσόντας (having fallen), ἀποτομία (severity); ἐπὶ (toward) δὲ (however) σὲ (you), χρηστότης (kindness) Θεοῦ (of God), ἐὰν (if) ἐπιμένῃς (you continue in) τῇ (the) χρηστότητι (kindness); ἐπεὶ (otherwise) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) ἐκκοπήσῃ (will be cut off). ²³ κἀκεῖνοι (Even they) δέ (now) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ἐπιμένωσιν (they continue) τῇ (-) ἀπιστίᾳ (in unbelief), ἐνκεντρισθήσονται (will be grafted in); δυνατὸς (able) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) πάλιν (again) ἐνκεντρίσαι (to graft in) αὐτούς (them). ²⁴ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) σὺ (you), ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) κατὰ (according to) φύσιν (nature) ἐξεκόπης (were cut off) ἀγριελαίου (a wild olive tree), καὶ (and), παρὰ (contrary to) φύσιν (nature), ἐνεκεντρίσθης (were grafted) εἰς (into) καλλιέλαιον (a cultivated olive tree), πόσῳ (how much) μᾶλλον (more) οὗτοι (these), οἱ (who) κατὰ (according to) φύσιν (nature are), ἐνκεντρισθήσονται (will be grafted into) τῇ (the) ἰδίᾳ (own) ἐλαίᾳ (olive tree)!
