²⁰ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐνθυμηθέντος (having pondered), ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄγγελος (an angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream) ἐφάνη (appeared) αὐτῷ (to him), λέγων (saying), “Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph), υἱὸς (son) Δαυίδ (of David), μὴ (not) φοβηθῇς (you should fear) παραλαβεῖν (to receive) Μαρίαν (Mary) τὴν (as the) γυναῖκά (wife) σου (of you); τὸ (that) γὰρ (for) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (her) γεννηθὲν (having been conceived), ἐκ (from) Πνεύματός (the Spirit) ἐστιν (is), Ἁγίου (Holy).

¹¹ Ὤφθη (Appeared) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to him) ἄγγελος (an angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ἑστὼς (standing) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right) τοῦ (of the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) τοῦ (of the) θυμιάματος (incense). ¹² καὶ (And) ἐταράχθη (was troubled) Ζαχαρίας (Zechariah) ἰδών (having seen him), καὶ (and) φόβος (fear) ἐπέπεσεν (fell) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτόν (him).

²⁸ καὶ (And) εἰσελθὼν (having come) πρὸς (to) αὐτὴν (her), εἶπεν (he said), “Χαῖρε (Greetings), κεχαριτωμένη (you favored with grace)! ὁ (The) Κύριος (Lord is) μετὰ (with) σοῦ (you).”

⁴ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (while) τῷ (-) ἀπορεῖσθαι (are perplexed) αὐτὰς (they) περὶ (about) τούτου (this), καὶ (that) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄνδρες (men) δύο (two) ἐπέστησαν (stood by) αὐταῖς (them) ἐν (in) ἐσθῆτι (garments) ἀστραπτούσῃ (dazzling).

⁴¹ Ταῦτα (These things) εἶπεν (said) Ἠσαΐας (Isaiah) ὅτι (because) εἶδεν (he saw) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) περὶ (concerning) αὐτοῦ (Him).

¹⁹ Ἄγγελος (An angel) δὲ (however) Κυρίου (of the Lord), διὰ (during) νυκτὸς (the night) ἤνοιξε (having opened) τὰς (the) θύρας (doors) τῆς (of the) φυλακῆς (prison), ἐξαγαγών (having brought out) τε (then) αὐτοὺς (them), εἶπεν (said),

⁷ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄγγελος (an angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐπέστη (stood by), καὶ (and) φῶς (a light) ἔλαμψεν (shone) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) οἰκήματι (cell). πατάξας (Having struck) δὲ (then) τὴν (the) πλευρὰν (side) τοῦ (-) Πέτρου (of Peter), ἤγειρεν (he woke up) αὐτὸν (him), λέγων (saying), “Ἀνάστα (Rise up) ἐν (in) τάχει (haste).” καὶ (And) ἐξέπεσαν (fell) αὐτοῦ (of him) αἱ (the) ἁλύσεις (chains) ἐκ (off) τῶν (the) χειρῶν (hands).

⁶ Ἐγένετο (It happened) δέ (however) μοι (to me) πορευομένῳ (journeying) καὶ (and) ἐγγίζοντι (drawing near) τῇ (-) Δαμασκῷ (to Damascus), περὶ (about) μεσημβρίαν (noon), ἐξαίφνης (suddenly) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) περιαστράψαι (shone) φῶς (a light) ἱκανὸν (great) περὶ (around) ἐμέ (me). ⁷ ἔπεσά (I fell) τε (then) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ἔδαφος (ground) καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (heard) φωνῆς (a voice) λεγούσης (saying) μοι (to me), ‘Σαοὺλ (Saul), Σαούλ (Saul), τί (why) με (Me) διώκεις (persecute you)?’ ⁸ Ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (then) ἀπεκρίθην (answered), ‘Τίς (Who) εἶ (are You), Κύριε (Lord)?’ Εἶπέν (He said) τε (then) πρὸς (to) ἐμέ (me), ‘Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὁ (of) Ναζωραῖος (Nazareth), ὃν (whom) σὺ (you) διώκεις (are persecuting).’ ⁹ οἱ (Those) δὲ (then) σὺν (with) ἐμοὶ (me) ὄντες (being), τὸ (the) μὲν (indeed) φῶς (light) ἐθεάσαντο (beheld); τὴν (the) δὲ (however) φωνὴν (voice) οὐκ (not) ἤκουσαν (did they hear) τοῦ (of the One) λαλοῦντός (speaking) μοι (to me).

¹³ ἡμέρας (day) μέσης (mid) κατὰ (on) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (road) εἶδον (I saw), βασιλεῦ (O king), οὐρανόθεν (from heaven) ὑπὲρ (above), τὴν (the) λαμπρότητα (brightness) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), περιλάμψαν (having shone around) με (me), φῶς (a light); καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) σὺν (with) ἐμοὶ (me) πορευομένους (journeying). ¹⁴ πάντων (All) τε (and) καταπεσόντων (having fallen down) ἡμῶν (of us) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (a voice) λέγουσαν (saying) πρός (to) με (me) τῇ (in the) Ἑβραΐδι (Hebrew) διαλέκτῳ (language), ‘Σαοὺλ (Saul), Σαούλ (Saul), τί (why) με (Me) διώκεις (persecute you)? σκληρόν (It is hard) σοι (for you) πρὸς (against) κέντρα (the goads) λακτίζειν (to kick).’

²³ παρέστη (Stood by) γάρ (for) μοι (me) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (-) νυκτὶ (night) τοῦ (-), Θεοῦ (of God), οὗ (whose) εἰμι (am) [ἐγώ] (I) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (and) λατρεύω (I serve), ἄγγελος (an angel),

¹⁸ ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (now) πάντες (all), ἀνακεκαλυμμένῳ (having been unveiled) προσώπῳ (in face), τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) Κυρίου (of the Lord) κατοπτριζόμενοι (beholding as in a mirror), τὴν (the) αὐτὴν (same) εἰκόνα (image) μεταμορφούμεθα (are being transformed into), ἀπὸ (from) δόξης (glory) εἰς (to) δόξαν (glory), καθάπερ (even as) ἀπὸ (from) Κυρίου (the Lord), Πνεύματος (the Spirit).

⁶ ὅτι (For it is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (-) εἰπών (having said), “Ἐκ (Out of) σκότους (darkness) φῶς (light) λάμψει (shall shine),” ὃς (who) ἔλαμψεν (shone) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) πρὸς (for the) φωτισμὸν (radiance) τῆς (of the) γνώσεως (knowledge) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (the face) [Ἰησοῦ] (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

¹⁶ Καὶ (And) ὁμολογουμένως (confessedly), μέγα (great) ἐστὶν (is) τὸ (the) τῆς (-) εὐσεβείας (of godliness) μυστήριον (mystery): Ὃς (Who) ἐφανερώθη (was revealed) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), ἐδικαιώθη (was justified) ἐν (in) πνεύματι (the Spirit), ὤφθη (was seen) ἀγγέλοις (by angels), ἐκηρύχθη (was proclaimed) ἐν (among) ἔθνεσιν (the nations), ἐπιστεύθη (was believed on) ἐν (in) κόσμῳ (the world), ἀνελήμφθη (was taken up) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory).

²¹ καί (And) οὕτω (so) φοβερὸν (fearful) ἦν (was) τὸ (the thing) φανταζόμενον (appearing that) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) εἶπεν (said), “Ἔκφοβός (Greatly afraid) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) ἔντρομος (trembling).”

¹ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εἶδον (I saw) ἄλλον (another) ἄγγελον (angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (having) ἐξουσίαν (authority) μεγάλην (great); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) ἐφωτίσθη (was illuminated) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) αὐτοῦ (of him).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνον (a throne) μέγαν (great) λευκὸν (white), καὶ (and) τὸν (the One) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (it), οὗ (whose) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) προσώπου (face) ἔφυγεν (fled) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) οὐρανός (heaven), καὶ (and) τόπος (place) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) αὐτοῖς (for them).
