⁴⁰ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἦν (was) Ἰωνᾶς (Jonah) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κοιλίᾳ (belly) τοῦ (of the) κήτους (great fish) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) νύκτας (nights), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) νύκτας (nights).

²¹ Ἀπὸ (From) τότε (that time) ἤρξατο (began) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) δεικνύειν (to show) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθῆναι (to be raised).

²² Συστρεφομένων (Were abiding) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (they) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee), εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μέλλει (Is about) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοσθαι (to be betrayed) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (the hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men), ²³ καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will be raised up).” καὶ (And) ἐλυπήθησαν (they were grieved) σφόδρα (deeply).

¹⁸ “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδοθήσεται (will be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματεῦσιν (scribes), καὶ (and) κατακρινοῦσιν (they will condemn) αὐτὸν (Him) 〈εἰς〉 (to) θανάτῳ* (death), ¹⁹ καὶ (and) παραδώσουσιν (they will betray) αὐτὸν (Him) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) εἰς (unto), τὸ (-) ἐμπαῖξαι (to mock) καὶ (and) μαστιγῶσαι (to flog) καὶ (and) σταυρῶσαι (to crucify); καὶ (and) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will rise again).”

⁶³ λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Sir), ἐμνήσθημεν (we have remembered) ὅτι (how) ἐκεῖνος (that) ὁ (-) πλάνος (deceiver) εἶπεν (said) ἔτι (while) ζῶν (living), ‘Μετὰ (After) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἐγείρομαι (I arise).’

⁶ οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (He is) ὧδε (here); ἠγέρθη (He is risen) γὰρ (for), καθὼς (as) εἶπεν (He said). δεῦτε (Come), ἴδετε (see) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) ὅπου (where) ἔκειτο (He was lying).

³¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) αὐτοὺς (them) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἀναστῆναι (to rise again).

⁹ Καὶ (And) καταβαινόντων (descending) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) ὄρους (mountain), διεστείλατο (He instructed) αὐτοῖς (them) ἵνα (that) μηδενὶ (to no one) ἃ (what) εἶδον (they had seen) διηγήσωνται (they should tell), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὅταν (until) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἀναστῇ (had risen). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) τὸν (that) λόγον (saying) ἐκράτησαν (they kept) πρὸς (among) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves), συζητοῦντες (questioning) τί (what) ἐστιν (it is) τὸ (-) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἀναστῆναι (to rise).

³⁰ Κἀκεῖθεν (From there) ἐξελθόντες (having gone forth), παρεπορεύοντο (they were passing) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἤθελεν (did He want) ἵνα (that) τις (anyone) γνοῖ (should know it); ³¹ ἐδίδασκεν (He was teaching) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Ὁ (The) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is delivered) εἰς (into the) χεῖρας (hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθεὶς (having been killed), μετὰ (on the) τρεῖς (third) ἡμέρας (day) ἀναστήσεται (He will arise).” ³² οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἠγνόουν (they did not understand) τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (saying), καὶ (and) ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐπερωτῆσαι (to ask).

²² εἰπὼν (having said) ὅτι (-), “Δεῖ (It is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ἀπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθῆναι (to be raised).”

⁴⁴ “Θέσθε (Let sink) ὑμεῖς (you) εἰς (into) τὰ (the) ὦτα (ears) ὑμῶν (of you) τοὺς (the) λόγους (words) τούτους (these); ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) Υἱὸς (the Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) μέλλει (is about) παραδίδοσθαι (to be betrayed) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (the hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men).”

³¹ Παραλαβὼν (Having taken aside) δὲ (then) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) τελεσθήσεται (will be accomplished) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) διὰ (by) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) τῷ (about the) Υἱῷ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). ³² παραδοθήσεται (He will be betrayed) γὰρ (for) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), καὶ (and) ἐμπαιχθήσεται (will be mocked), καὶ (and) ὑβρισθήσεται (will be insulted), καὶ (and) ἐμπτυσθήσεται (will be spit upon). ³³ καὶ (And) μαστιγώσαντες (having flogged Him), ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (-) τρίτῃ (third) ἀναστήσεται (He will rise again).”

⁴⁴ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (now) πρὸς (unto) αὐτούς (to them), “Οὗτοι (These are) οἱ (the) λόγοι (words) μου (of me), οὓς (which) ἐλάλησα (I spoke) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἔτι (still) ὢν (being) σὺν (with) ὑμῖν (you), ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it behooves) πληρωθῆναι (to be fulfilled) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) Μωϋσέως (of Moses), καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (Prophets) καὶ (and) ψαλμοῖς (the Psalms) περὶ (concerning) ἐμοῦ (Me).” ⁴⁵ τότε (Then) διήνοιξεν (He opened) αὐτῶν (their) τὸν (-) νοῦν (mind) τοῦ (-) συνιέναι (to understand) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures). ⁴⁶ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Οὕτως (Thus) γέγραπται (it has been written): παθεῖν (Was to suffer) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ), καὶ (and) ἀναστῆναι (to rise) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day);
