⁵ ἐμφόβων (Terrified) δὲ (then) γενομένων (having become) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) κλινουσῶν (bowing) τὰ (the) πρόσωπα (faces) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), εἶπαν (they said) πρὸς (to) αὐτάς (them), “Τί (Why) ζητεῖτε (seek you) τὸν (the) ζῶντα (living) μετὰ (among) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead)?

³ ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) ἡ (the) εἰδέα (appearance) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὡς (like) ἀστραπὴ (lightning), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ἔνδυμα (clothing) αὐτοῦ (of him) λευκὸν (white) ὡς (as) χιών (snow). ⁴ ἀπὸ (From) δὲ (now) τοῦ (the) φόβου (fear) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐσείσθησαν (trembled) οἱ (those) τηροῦντες (keeping guard) καὶ (and) ἐγενήθησαν (became) ὡς (as) νεκροί (dead men). ⁵ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel) εἶπεν (said) ταῖς (to the) γυναιξίν (women), “Μὴ (Not) φοβεῖσθε (fear) ὑμεῖς (you); οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), τὸν (the One) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified), ζητεῖτε (you seek).

⁵ Καὶ (And) εἰσελθοῦσαι (having entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb), εἶδον (they saw) νεανίσκον (a young man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐν (on) τοῖς (the) δεξιοῖς (right), περιβεβλημένον (clothed in) στολὴν (a robe) λευκήν (white), καὶ (and) ἐξεθαμβήθησαν (they were greatly amazed). ⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (he says) αὐταῖς (to them), “Μὴ (Not) ἐκθαμβεῖσθε (be amazed). Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ζητεῖτε (you seek), τὸν (the) Ναζαρηνὸν (Nazarene), τὸν (the One) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified). ἠγέρθη (He is risen)! οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (He is) ὧδε (here)! ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) τόπος (place) ὅπου (where) ἔθηκαν (they laid) αὐτόν (Him).

¹² καὶ (And) ἐταράχθη (was troubled) Ζαχαρίας (Zechariah) ἰδών (having seen him), καὶ (and) φόβος (fear) ἐπέπεσεν (fell) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτόν (him). ¹³ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel), “Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear), Ζαχαρία (Zechariah), διότι (because) εἰσηκούσθη (has been heard) ἡ (the) δέησίς (prayer) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γυνή (wife) σου (of You) Ἐλισάβετ (Elizabeth) γεννήσει (will bear) υἱόν (a son) σοι (to you), καὶ (and) καλέσεις (you shall call) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) Ἰωάννην (John).

²⁹ Ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ἐπὶ (at) τῷ (the) λόγῳ (statement) διεταράχθη (she was troubled), καὶ (and) διελογίζετο (was pondering) ποταπὸς (what kind) εἴη (might be) ὁ (the) ἀσπασμὸς (salutation) οὗτος (this).

³ εἶδεν (He saw) ἐν (in) ὁράματι (a vision) φανερῶς (clearly), ὡσεὶ (as if) περὶ (about) ὥραν (hour) ἐνάτην (the ninth) τῆς (of the) ἡμέρας (day), ἄγγελον (an angel) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) εἰσελθόντα (having come) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) εἰπόντα (having said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Κορνήλιε (Cornelius)!” ⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀτενίσας (having looked intently) αὐτῷ (on him), καὶ (and) ἔμφοβος (afraid) γενόμενος (having become), εἶπεν (he said), “Τί (What) ἐστιν (is it), Κύριε (Lord)?” Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to him), “Αἱ (The) προσευχαί (prayers) σου (of You) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) ἐλεημοσύναι (alms) σου (of you) ἀνέβησαν (have ascended) εἰς (as) μνημόσυνον (a memorial) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

⁸ Καὶ (And) ὧδε (here) μὲν (indeed) δεκάτας (tithes), ἀποθνῄσκοντες (dying) ἄνθρωποι (men) λαμβάνουσιν (receive); ἐκεῖ (in that place) δὲ (however), μαρτυρούμενος (it is testified) ὅτι (that) ζῇ (he lives on).

¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One); καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I was) νεκρὸς (dead), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

⁸ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to the) ἀγγέλῳ (messenger) τῆς (of) ἐν (in) Σμύρνῃ (Smyrna) ἐκκλησίας (the church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (First) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἔσχατος (Last), ὃς (who) ἐγένετο (became) νεκρὸς (dead) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (came to life).
