¹ Ἀρχόμεθα (Are we beginning) πάλιν (again) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) συνιστάνειν (to commend)? ἢ (Or) μὴ (not) χρῄζομεν (we need), ὥς (like) τινες (some), συστατικῶν (commendatory) ἐπιστολῶν (letters) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἢ (or) ἐξ (from) ὑμῶν (you)?

²⁷ Βουλομένου (Resolving) δὲ (then) αὐτοῦ (he) διελθεῖν (to pass through) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Ἀχαΐαν (Achaia), προτρεψάμενοι (having encouraged him), οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) ἔγραψαν (wrote) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) ἀποδέξασθαι (to welcome) αὐτόν (him), ὃς (who) παραγενόμενος (having arrived), συνεβάλετο (helped) πολὺ (greatly) τοῖς (those) πεπιστευκόσιν (having believed) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) χάριτος (grace).

¹⁰ Κατὰ (According to) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσάν (having been given) μοι (to me), ὡς (as) σοφὸς (a wise) ἀρχιτέκτων (master builder) θεμέλιον (the foundation) ἔθηκα (I have laid); ἄλλος (another) δὲ (however) ἐποικοδομεῖ (is building upon it). ἕκαστος (Each one) δὲ (however) βλεπέτω (let take heed) πῶς (how) ἐποικοδομεῖ (he builds upon it).

¹⁵ ἐὰν (If) γὰρ (for) μυρίους (ten thousand) παιδαγωγοὺς (guardians) ἔχητε (you should have) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ), ἀλλ’ (yet) οὐ (not) πολλοὺς (many) πατέρας (fathers); ἐν (in) γὰρ (for) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel), ἐγὼ (I) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐγέννησα (have begotten).

³³ καθὼς (as) κἀγὼ (I also) πάντα (all) πᾶσιν (in all things) ἀρέσκω (please), μὴ (not) ζητῶν (seeking) τὸ (the) ἐμαυτοῦ (of myself) σύμφορον (profit), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (that) τῶν (of the) πολλῶν (many), ἵνα (that) σωθῶσιν (they may be saved).

³ ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) παραγένωμαι (I shall have arrived), οὓς (whomever) ἐὰν (if) δοκιμάσητε (you might approve), δι’ (with) ἐπιστολῶν (letters) τούτους (these) πέμψω (I will send) ἀπενεγκεῖν (to carry) τὴν (the) χάριν (bounty) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem).

¹⁷ Οὐ (Not) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are), ὡς (like) οἱ (the) πολλοὶ (many), καπηλεύοντες (peddling) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) ἐξ (of) εἰλικρινείας (sincerity), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) ἐκ (of) Θεοῦ (God), κατέναντι (before) Θεοῦ (God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) λαλοῦμεν (we speak).

¹² οὐ (Not) πάλιν (again) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) συνιστάνομεν (are we commending) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀφορμὴν (occasion) διδόντες (are giving) ὑμῖν (to you) καυχήματος (of boasting) ὑπὲρ (on behalf of) ἡμῶν (us), ἵνα (so that) ἔχητε (you may have an answer) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (appearance) καυχωμένους (boasting), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἐν (in) καρδίᾳ (the heart).

⁸ ἐάν (If) τε (even) γὰρ (for) περισσότερόν (more abundantly) τι (somewhat) καυχήσωμαι (I should boast) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) ἐξουσίας (authority) ἡμῶν (of us), ἧς (which) ἔδωκεν (has given us) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) εἰς (for) οἰκοδομὴν (building you up) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰς (for) καθαίρεσιν (tearing down) ὑμῶν (you), οὐκ (not) αἰσχυνθήσομαι (I will be ashamed),

¹² Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) τολμῶμεν (dare we) ἐνκρῖναι (to classify) ἢ (or) συνκρῖναι (to compare) ἑαυτούς (ourselves with) τισιν (some) τῶν (-) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) συνιστανόντων (commending); ἀλλὰ (but) αὐτοὶ (these) ἐν (by) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) μετροῦντες (measuring), καὶ (and) συνκρίνοντες (comparing) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) ἑαυτοῖς (with themselves), οὐ (not) συνιᾶσιν (understand).

¹¹ Γέγονα (I have become) ἄφρων (a fool); ὑμεῖς (you) με (me) ἠναγκάσατε (compelled). ἐγὼ (I) γὰρ (for) ὤφειλον (ought) ὑφ’ (by) ὑμῶν (you) συνίστασθαι (to have been commended). οὐδὲν (In no way) γὰρ (for) ὑστέρησα (was I inferior) τῶν (to those) “Ὑπερλίαν (most eminent) ἀποστόλων (apostles),” εἰ (though) καὶ (even) οὐδέν (nothing) εἰμι (I am).

¹⁹ Πάλαι (All along) δοκεῖτε (have you been thinking) ὅτι (that) ὑμῖν (to you) ἀπολογούμεθα (we have been making a defense)? κατέναντι (Before) Θεοῦ (God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) λαλοῦμεν (we speak), τὰ (-) δὲ (but) πάντα (all things), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), ὑπὲρ (for) τῆς (-) ὑμῶν (your) οἰκοδομῆς (edification).
