¹² Γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), τεκνία (little children), ὅτι (because) ἀφέωνται (have been forgiven) ὑμῖν (your) αἱ (-) ἁμαρτίαι (sins) διὰ (for the sake of) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

²⁰ Καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) αὐτῶν (of them), εἶπεν (He said), “Ἄνθρωπε (Man), ἀφέωνταί (have been forgiven) σοι (you) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins) σου (of you).”

⁴⁷ οὗ (This) χάριν (therefore) λέγω (I say) σοι (to you), ἀφέωνται (have been forgiven) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins) αὐτῆς (of her) αἱ (-) πολλαί (many), ὅτι (for) ἠγάπησεν (she loved) πολύ (much); ᾧ (to whom) δὲ (however) ὀλίγον (little) ἀφίεται (is forgiven), ὀλίγον (little) ἀγαπᾷ (he loves).” ⁴⁸ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτῇ (to her), “Ἀφέωνταί (Have been forgiven) σου (your) αἱ (-) ἁμαρτίαι (sins).” ⁴⁹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξαντο (began) οἱ (those) συνανακείμενοι (reclining) λέγειν (to say) ἐν (within) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), “Τίς (Who) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὃς (who) καὶ (even) ἁμαρτίας (sins) ἀφίησιν (forgives)?” ⁵⁰ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman), “Ἡ (The) πίστις (faith) σου (of You) σέσωκέν (has saved) σε (you); πορεύου (go) εἰς (in) εἰρήνην (peace).”

⁴⁷ καὶ (and) κηρυχθῆναι (to be proclaimed) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μετάνοιαν (repentance) εἰς (and) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) εἰς (to) πάντα (all) τὰ (-) ἔθνη (nations), ἀρξάμενοι (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem).

¹² Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἐν (in) ἄλλῳ (other) οὐδενὶ (no one) ἡ (the) σωτηρία (salvation), οὐδὲ (not) γὰρ (for) ὄνομά (name) ἐστιν (is there) ἕτερον (another) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) τὸ (-) δεδομένον (having been given) ἐν (among) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐν (by) ᾧ (which) δεῖ (it behooves) σωθῆναι (to be saved) ἡμᾶς (us).”

⁴³ τούτῳ (To Him) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets) μαρτυροῦσιν (bear witness) ἄφεσιν (that forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) λαβεῖν (receives) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) πάντα (everyone) τὸν (-) πιστεύοντα (believing) εἰς (in) αὐτόν (Him).”

³⁸ Γνωστὸν (Known) οὖν (therefore) ἔστω (be it) ὑμῖν (to you), ἄνδρες (men), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὅτι (that) διὰ (through) τούτου (this One), ὑμῖν (to you) ἄφεσις (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) καταγγέλλεται (is proclaimed).

⁶ καθάπερ (just as) καὶ (also) Δαυὶδ (David) λέγει (declares) τὸν (the) μακαρισμὸν (blessedness) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) ᾧ (to whom) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) λογίζεται (credits) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) χωρὶς (apart from) ἔργων (works): ⁷ “Μακάριοι (Blessed) ὧν (are they of whom) ἀφέθησαν (are forgiven) αἱ (the) ἀνομίαι (lawless deeds), καὶ (and) ὧν (of whom) ἐπεκαλύφθησαν (are covered) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins);

⁷ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) ἔχομεν (we have) τὴν (-) ἀπολύτρωσιν (redemption) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) αἵματος (blood) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τὴν (the) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) τῶν (-) παραπτωμάτων (of trespasses), κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (grace) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

³² γίνεσθε (Be) δὲ (now) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another) χρηστοί (kind), εὔσπλαγχνοι (tender-hearted), χαριζόμενοι (forgiving) ἑαυτοῖς (each other), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἐχαρίσατο (forgave) ὑμῖν (you).

¹⁴ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) ἔχομεν (we have) τὴν (-) ἀπολύτρωσιν (redemption), τὴν (the) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) τῶν (-) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins).

⁴ καὶ (And) ταῦτα (these things) γράφομεν (write) ἡμεῖς (we) ἵνα (so that) ἡ (the) χαρὰ (joy) ἡμῶν (of us) ᾖ (might be) πεπληρωμένη (complete).

⁷ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) φωτὶ (light) περιπατῶμεν (we should walk) ὡς (as) αὐτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) φωτί (light), κοινωνίαν (fellowship) ἔχομεν (we have) μετ’ (with) ἀλλήλων (one another), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καθαρίζει (cleanses) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπὸ (from) πάσης (all) ἁμαρτίας (sin).

⁹ ἐὰν (If) ὁμολογῶμεν (we should confess) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) ἡμῶν (of us), πιστός (faithful) ἐστιν (He is) καὶ (and) δίκαιος (just), ἵνα (that) ἀφῇ (He may forgive) ἡμῖν (us) τὰς (our) ἁμαρτίας (sins), καὶ (and) καθαρίσῃ (might cleanse) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπὸ (from) πάσης (all) ἀδικίας (unrighteousness).

¹ Τεκνία (Little children) μου (of me), ταῦτα (these things) γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you) ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἁμάρτητε (you might sin). καὶ (And) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ἁμάρτῃ (should sin), Παράκλητον (an advocate) ἔχομεν (we have) πρὸς (with) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ) δίκαιον (the Righteous One).

⁷ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), οὐκ (not) ἐντολὴν (a commandment) καινὴν (new) γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐντολὴν (a commandment) παλαιὰν (old), ἣν (which) εἴχετε (you have had) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning). ἡ (The) ἐντολὴ (commandment) ἡ (-) παλαιά (old) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) ὃν (that) ἠκούσατε (you have heard).

¹³ Γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), πατέρες (fathers), ὅτι (because) ἐγνώκατε (you have known) τὸν (Him who is) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning). Γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), νεανίσκοι (young men), ὅτι (because) νενικήκατε (you have overcome) τὸν (the) πονηρόν (evil one). Ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you), παιδία (little children), ὅτι (because) ἐγνώκατε (you know) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ¹⁴ Ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you), πατέρες (fathers), ὅτι (because) ἐγνώκατε (you know) τὸν (Him who is) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning). Ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you), νεανίσκοι (young men), ὅτι (because) ἰσχυροί (strong) ἐστε (you are), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) μένει (abides), καὶ (and) νενικήκατε (you have overcome) τὸν (the) πονηρόν (evil one).

²¹ οὐκ (Not) ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (you know) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (because) οἴδατε (you know) αὐτήν (it), καὶ (and) ὅτι (because) πᾶν (any) ψεῦδος (lie), ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is).
