¹³ and he saw at a distance a fig-tree that had leaves; and he went, if perhaps he might find any thing on it. And when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the time for figs.

¹⁹ and seeing a fig-tree on the road, he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves; and he said to it: Let no fruit grow on you henceforth forever. And the fig-tree immediately withered.

³¹ And by chance a certain priest went down along that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings? yet not one of them is forgotten before God. ⁷ But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

⁶ And he spoke this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree that was planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit on it, and found none. ⁷ Then he said to his vine-dresser, Behold, for three years I have come and sought fruit on this fig-tree, and I have found none; cut it down; why does it occupy the ground unprofitably? ⁸ But he answered and said to him, Sir, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and throw in manure; ⁹ and it may bear fruit; but if not, after ward you shall cut it down.
