¹ And when they drew near to Jerusalem, as far as Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

¹ And when they drew near to Jerusalem, and had come to Bethphage, to the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, ² saying to them: Go into the village opposite to you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them to me. ³ And if any one say any thing to you, you shall reply: The Lord has need of them: and he will immediately send them. ⁴ All this was done, that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: ⁵ Say you to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king comes to you, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. ⁶ And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them; ⁷ and brought the ass and the colt, and put their mantles on them, and caused him to sit upon them. ⁸ And a very great multitude spread their mantles in the road: and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the road. ⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed after, cried, saying: Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. ¹⁰ And when he entered Jerusalem, all the city was moved, and said: Who is this? ¹¹ And the multitude said: This is Jesus the prophet, that is from Nazareth of Galilee.

¹⁷ And he left them, and went out of the city to Bethany, and there spent the night.

³ And as he was sitting upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, and said: Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the age?

³⁰ And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

⁷ And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them out, two and two, and gave them authority over unclean spirits.

³ And as he sat on the mount of Olives, opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately:

¹³ And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them: Go into the city, and there will meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water;

²⁹ And it came to pass, that, when he came near to Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, ³⁰ saying: Go into the opposite village, in which, when you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no man ever sat. Loose him, and bring him. ³¹ And if any one ask you why you loose him, thus shall you say to him: The Lord has need of him. ³² And those who were sent, went, and found as he had said to them. ³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners of him said to them: Why do you loose the colt? ³⁴ They replied: The Lord has need of him. ³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus, and threw their mantles upon the colt, and set Jesus on him. ³⁶ And as he was going on, they spread their mantles in the road. ³⁷ And when he was now near the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and to praise God, with a loud voice, for all the mighty deeds which they had seen, ³⁸ saying: Blessed is the king that comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude, said to him: Teacher, rebuke your disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered, and said to them: I say to you, that if these had been silent, the stones would have cried out.

¹ But Jesus went to the mount of Olives.

¹⁴ And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat upon him, as it is written: ¹⁵ Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king comes, sitting on the colt of an ass. ¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him. ¹⁷ The multitude therefore that was with him, testified that he had called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead. ¹⁸ For this reason, also, the multitude met him, be cause they had heard that he had done this sign. ¹⁹ Then the Pharisees said among themselves: You see that you gain nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath-day's journey.
