Luke 5

Whiston(i) 1 And it came to pass, that as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake; but the fishermen were gone out of them, and washed [their] nets. 3 And he entred into one ship which was Simons, and prayed him that he would thrust out a very little from the land: and he sat down and taught the multitude in the ship. 4 But when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Lanch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 But Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will not disobey. 6 And when they had presently let down their nets, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes; insomuch that their nets brake. 7 And they beckned unto [their] partners, in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they almost sunk. 8 But when Simon saw [it], he fell down to his feet saying, I beseech thee Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 But his partners were James and John the sons of Zebedee. But he said unto them, come and be not fishers of fish, for I will make you fishers of men. 11 But when they had heard [this] they left all upon the land, and followed him. 12 And it came to pass, when he was in one of the cities, behold, a leprous man: who seeing Jesus, fell on [his] face, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 13 But he put forth [his] hand, and touched him, saying, I will; Be thou clean. And immediately he was cleansed. 14 And he charged him to tell no one: but go away, and shew thy self to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, that it may be a testimony unto you. But he went out; and began to proclaim and spread the fame of the matter; in so much that he could not openly enter into the city; but he was without in desert places; and they came together unto him. And he came again to Capharnaum. 15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed of their infirmities. 16 And he withdrew himself into the desert places and prayed. 17 And it came to pass on one of the days, as he was teaching, the Pharisees and teachers of the law came together, now they were come together out of every village of Galilee and Judea, to be healed. 18 And behold, men brought in a bed a man who was a paralytick: and they sought to bring him in, and to lay [him] before him. 19 And when they did not find what way they might bring him in, because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and taking away the tiles where he was, they let down the couch, with the paralytick, into the midst before Jesus. 20 And when Jesus saw their faith, he saith unto the paralytick, Man, thy sins are forgiven. 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying in their hearts, what does this man speak, blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? 22 But Jesus knowing their reasonings, he answered and saith unto them, Why reason ye wicked things in your hearts? 23 Whether is easier to say, Thy sins are forgiven, or to say, Rise and walk? 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, he saith unto the paralytick I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go unto thine house. 25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up his bed, and departed to his house, glorifying God. 26 And they were filled with dread, saying, We have seen strange things to day. 27 And coming again to the sea, he taught the multitude that followed him; and passing by he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, at the receit of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. 28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him. 29 And Levi made him a great treat in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans, and of others that sat down. 30 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured to his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners. 31 But Jesus answering, said unto them, They that are well need not a physician: but they that are sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 33 But they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees; but thy disciples do none of these things. 34 But Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bride-chamber fast[,] so long as they have the bridegroom with them? 35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, then shall they fast, in those days. 36 But he spake also a parable unto them, No man renteth a piece from a new garment and putteth it upon an old one: if otherwise, then both the new will make a rent, and the piece that was [taken] out of the new, will not agree with the old. 37 And no one putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the old bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles will perish. 38 But they put new wine into new bottles; and they are preserved. 39 --
