VIN⁽ⁱ⁾ ³ For behold, the LORD is coming out from his place, and he will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth. ⁴ The mountains will melt under him and the valleys will burst open, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope. ⁵ "This is because of the transgression of Jacob and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not [the idol worship of] Samaria? What is Judah's high place? Is it not Jerusalem? ⁶ Therefore I will make Samaria as a heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down her stones into the valley, and I will lay bare her foundations. ⁷ "All her images will be broken to pieces! All that she has earned will be burned with fire. I will destroy all her idols. She gathered them for the price of a prostitute and for the price of a prostitute they will return." ⁸ For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will howl like the jackals, and moan like the daughters of owls.
