Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
God saw that the light was good. God separated the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Then God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water!"
So God made the expanse, separating the water beneath the expanse from the water above it. And so it was.
God called the expanse sky. There was evening and there was morning, a second day.
And God said, "Let the waters under heaven be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear." And it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth, and the gatherings of the waters he called Seas, and God saw that it was good.
