The Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded:
and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law.
But when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them.
"No one could come and go in peace at that time. This is because everyone living in the land had a lot of turmoil.
And nation was beaten by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every distress.
But you be strong, and don't let your hands be slack; for your work will be rewarded.”
And when Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the vile idols from all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, and from the cities that he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD.
Then he gathered together all of Judah, Benjamin, and people from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who were living among them, since many people had defected to him from Israel when they learned that the LORD his God was with him.
They all assembled in Jerusalem during the third month of the fifteen year of Asa's reign.
They sacrificed to the that day 700 oxen and 7,000 sheep from they spoil that they had brought with them.
They also entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their ancestors with all their heart and soul,
And that whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
And they took an oath to the LORD with a great voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with horns.
And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found by them: and the LORD gave them rest on all sides.
King Asa also removed his grandmother Maacah from the position of queen mother. She made a statue of the repulsive goddess Asherah. Asa immediately cut the statue down, crushed it, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
