[for I even I myself wished the followers of Christ to be devoted to destruction,] for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,
who are Israelites, to whom belonged the adoption and the glory, and the covenants, and the civil government, and the religious service, and the promises;
whose ancestors were the patriarchs, and from whom, with regard to flesh, the Christ is [descended] who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.
It is not however to be supposed that the word of God hath failed. For with regard to all the descendants of Israel, they are not Israel;
nor are they all children, because they are of the race of Abraham; but in Isaak a seed shall be called for thee.
That is to say, It is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for seed.
