Did not your fathers do so, when I sent them from Kades-Barne to view the land?
When they had passed through the valley of grapes, and viewed the land, they discouraged the heart of the Israelites from going to the land which the Lord gave them;
and the anger of the Lord was kindled that day, and he sware saying,
These men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upwards, who know good and evil, shall not see the land, which I with an oath promised to Abraham, and Isaak, and Jacob; [for they have not followed me]
save Chaleb, son of Jephonne, who separated himself from them, and Joshua, son of Nave, because they followed the Lord.
So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he led them about in the wilderness forty years, until all that generation, who had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.
