And lo! a Chananitish woman from those quarters came out and cried with a loud voice, saying to him, Have pity on me, O my lord, Son of David; my daughter is grievously afflicted by a demon.
But he made her no answer. Then his disciples came near and intreated him, saying, Dismiss this woman, for she crieth after us.
And he in reply said, My mission is only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
She nevertheless advanced, and prostrating herself before him, said, O my lord, help me.
Whereupon he in reply said, It is not seemly to take the childrens bread and cast it to the dogs.
And she said, True, Sir. Yet even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table.
