I spoke indeed to thy disciples to cast it out, but they could not. ¹⁹ Thereupon Jesus, in reply to him, saith, O faithless generation! How long shall I be with you? How long am I to endure you! Bring him to me. ²⁰ So he was brought to him. And soon as he saw Jesus, the spirit threw him into convulsions; and, falling on the ground, he rolled about and foamed. ²¹ And Jesus asked his father, How long since this befel him? And he said, From his childhood. ²² And oft times it hath cast him into fire, and into waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us and help us.

¹³ But the publican, who stood at a distance, did not presume so much as to lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying; God, be merciful to me a sinner.
