In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
By him all things were made, and without him there was not made one single thing.
What was in him was life, and this life was the light of men,
and this light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness did not reach it.
There was a man sent from God: his name was John.
This man came as a witness to bear witness concerning this light, that by means of him all might believe.
He was not the light, but was to bear witness concerning the light.
The light [the true light which enlighteneth every man] coming into the world
was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
He came to his own peculiar territories, and his own peculiar people did not receive him.
But to as many as received him he granted the privilege of becoming children of God, even to them who believe in his name,
who were born, not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Now the Word became incarnate, and dwelt as in a tent among us, and we beheld his glory; a glory as of an only begotten from the father. He was full of grace and truth.
Of him John testifieth when he cried, saying, "This is he of whom I said, He who is coming after me is preferred before me, for he was before me."
And of his fulness we have all received even grace for grace.
Because the law was given by Moses grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
No one hath ever seen God. This only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the father, even he hath made him known.
