Neverthelater, David won the castle of Zion, which is called the city of David. ⁶ Then said David, "Whosoever smite the Jebusites first, shall be the principal captain and a lord." And Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was therefore the chief captain. ⁷ And because David dwelt in the castle, therefore it was called the city of David. ⁸ And he built the city on every side even from Mello round about. But Joab repaired the rest of the city. ⁹ And David prospered and waxed great, and the LORD of Hosts was with him.
