Matthew 14:1-12

MLV(i) 1 Herod the Tetrarch heard the report of Jesus at that time, 2 and said to his young-servants, This is John the Immerser; he was raised from the dead, and because of this, these powers are working in him. 3 For Herod had took-hold of John, and bound him, and placed him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
4 For John said to him, It is not legal for you to have her.
5 And wishing to kill him, but he feared the crowd, because they held him as a prophet.
6 Now when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst of the court and pleased Herod; 7 from where he confessed with an oath to give her whatever she asks of him.
8 Now being pushed forward by her mother, she says, Give me the head of John the Immerser upon a platter here.
9 And the king was sorrowful, but because of his oaths and of those who reclined at the meal together with him, he commanded it to be given. 10 And he sent and beheaded John in the prison. 11 And his head was carried upon a platter, and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came and lifted up the body, and buried it, and they went and reported to Jesus.
