Jehovah appeared to Solomon in Gibeon in a dream of the night. And God said, Ask. What shall I give to you?
And Solomon said, You have shown great kindness to Your servant, my father David, as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept for him this great kindness, and have given to him a son sitting on his throne, as today.
And now, O Jehovah my God, You have caused Your servant to reign instead of my father David. And I am a little man-child; I do not know to go out and to come in.
And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a numerous people that cannot be numbered or counted for multitude.
Also give to Your servant an understanding heart, to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this, Your great people?
And the word was good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
And God said to him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself many days, nor asked riches for yourself, nor asked the life of your enemies, and have asked for discernment for yourself, to understand judgment,
behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given to you a wise and understanding heart, so that there was none like you before you, and after you none shall rise up like you.
