Do not by thy meat destroy him for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not therefore food, which is good for you, give occasion of reproach. ¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. ¹⁸ For he who in these things is the servant of Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved of men. ¹⁹ Well then, let us earnestly pursue the things that conduce to peace, and the things which are for mutual edification. ²⁰ For the sake of meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are clean; but it is an evil thing for a man to eat, giving offence. ²¹ It is laudable not to eat flesh, or to drink wine, nor to do any thing whereby thy brother is stumbled, or scandalized, or weakened.
