But she said, "The head of John the baptizer." ²⁵ And she hurried back at once to the king and asked him for it, saying, "I want you right away to give me John the Baptist's head on a platter." ²⁶ The king was exceedingly sorry, but on account of his oath and his guests he did not like to break his word to her, ²⁷ and he immediately sent one of his guard with orders to get John's head. ²⁸ And he went off and beheaded him in the prison and brought back his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
