Matthew 9:9-17

Godbey(i) 9 And Jesus passing along from thence, saw a man sitting at the toll, called Matthew; and He says to him, Follow me. And having arisen up, he followed Him. 10 And it came to pass, He was sitting at the table in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners, having come were sitting along with Jesus and His disciples. 11 And the Pharisees seeing, said to His disciples, Wherefore does your teacher eat with publicans and sinners? 12 And Jesus hearing said to them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick. 13 But having gone, learned what this is, I wish mercy and not sacrifice: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 14 Then the disciples of John come to Him, saying, Wherefore do we and the Pharisee fast, but thy disciples do not fast? 15 And Jesus said to them, The sons of the bride-chamber are not able to fast, so long as the bridegroom is with them. But the day will come, when the bride-groom must be taken from them, and then they will fast. 16 But no one puts a piece of new cloth on an old garment; for it takes its fullness from the garment, and the rent is made worse. 17 Neither do they put new wine in old bottles: lest the bottles are broken, and the wine poured out, and the bottles shall perish: but they put the new wine into the new bottles, and both are preserved.
