Godbey⁽ⁱ⁾ ⁷ And the king was angry; and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt up their cities. ⁸ Then he says to his servants, The wedding is ready, but those having been invited were not worthy. ⁹ Go ye therefore to crossings of the roads, and so many as you may find, invite to the marriage. ¹⁰ And those servants having gone out into the ways, led in all whom they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests. ¹¹ And the king having come in to look upon the guests, saw there a man not having on a wedding-garment. ¹² And he says to him, Comrade, how did you come in hither, not having the wedding-garment? And he was silent. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, Having bound him feet and hands, cast him into the darkness which is without; and there shall be weeping and gnashing of the teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few elected. ¹⁵ Then the Pharisees going forth, took counsel how they might ensnare Him in His speech. ¹⁶ And they send to Him their own disciples along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and that thou art teaching the way of God in truth, and there is not a care to thee for any one; for thou dost not look into the face of men. ¹⁷ Then tell us, what seems good to thee? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ And Jesus knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, O ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute money: and they brought Him a denarion. ²⁰ And He says to them, Whose is this image and superscription? ²¹ They say to Him, Caesar's. Then He says to them, Therefore render Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things which are God's. ²² And hearing they are astonished, and leaving Him, they went away. ²³ On that day the Sadducees came to Him, saying, there is no resurrection: and asked Him, ²⁴ saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any man may die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁵ But there were among us seven brothers: the first marrying died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ Likewise also, the second, and third, even unto seven. ²⁷ And last of all the woman also died. ²⁸ Therefore in the resurrection, of which one of the seven shall she be the wife? for they all had her. ²⁹ and Jesus responding said to them, You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are as angels of God in heaven: ³¹ concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. ³³ And the multitudes hearing, were delighted with His teaching.
