Numbers 14:9-11

CLV⁽ⁱ⁾ ⁹ Only against Yahweh do not revolt, and you, do not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread. Their protecting shadow has withdrawn from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Do not fear them. ¹⁰ Yet the whole congregation said to pelt them with stones. Then the glory of Yahweh appeared in a cloud on the tent of appointment to all the sons of Israel. ¹¹ Yahweh said to Moses:How long shall this people spurn Me? And how long shall they not believe in Me despite all the signs which I have done among them?

The Arabs and Persians use the same word to express the same thing; using the expressions, "May the shadow {zulli} of thy prosperity be extended." And in an elegant distich, "May your protection never be removed from my head; may God extend your shadow {zullikem} eternally."
