I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I begot in my bonds,
who once was unprofitable to you, but now is useful to you and to me,
whom I am sending back. You then receive him, that is, my very heart;
whom I wished to keep with myself, in order that on your behalf he might serve me in the bonds of the gospel.
But I wished to do nothing without your consent, in order that your good might not be by necessity, but by being voluntary.
For perhaps he was taken away for a time on account of this, in order that you might keep him eternally,
no longer as a slave but more than a slave--a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
