16 Καὶ (And) ἦλθεν (He came) εἰς (to) Ναζαρά (Nazareth), οὗ (where) ἦν (He had been) τεθραμμένος (brought up); καὶ (and) εἰσῆλθεν (He entered) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) εἰωθὸς (custom) αὐτῷ (to Him), ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῶν (of the) σαββάτων (Sabbaths), εἰς (into) τὴν (the) συναγωγήν (synagogue), καὶ (and) ἀνέστη (stood up) ἀναγνῶναι (to read).
17 καὶ (And) ἐπεδόθη (there was given) αὐτῷ (to Him) βιβλίον (the scroll of) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet) Ἠσαΐου (Isaiah), καὶ (and) ἀναπτύξας* (having unrolled) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (scroll), εὗρεν (He found) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) οὗ (where) ἦν (it was) γεγραμμένον (written):
18 “Πνεῦμα (The Spirit) Κυρίου (of the Lord is) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμέ (Me), Οὗ (of which) εἵνεκεν (because) ἔχρισέν (He has anointed) με (Me) Εὐαγγελίσασθαι (to preach good news) πτωχοῖς (to the poor). Ἀπέσταλκέν (He has sent) με (Me) κηρῦξαι (to proclaim) αἰχμαλώτοις (to the captives) ἄφεσιν (deliverance), Καὶ (and) τυφλοῖς (to the blind) ἀνάβλεψιν (recovery of sight), Ἀποστεῖλαι (to send forth) τεθραυσμένους (the oppressed) ἐν (in) ἀφέσει (deliverance),
19 Κηρῦξαι (to proclaim) ἐνιαυτὸν (the year) Κυρίου (of the Lord’s) δεκτόν (favor).”
20 Καὶ (And) πτύξας (having rolled up) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (scroll), ἀποδοὺς (having delivered it) τῷ (to the) ὑπηρέτῃ (attendant), ἐκάθισεν (He sat down), καὶ (and) πάντων (of all) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) συναγωγῇ (synagogue) ἦσαν (were) ἀτενίζοντες (fixed upon) αὐτῷ (Him).
21 ἤρξατο (He began) δὲ (then) λέγειν (to say) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) ὅτι (-), “Σήμερον (Today) πεπλήρωται (is fulfilled) ἡ (the) γραφὴ (Scripture) αὕτη (this), ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ὠσὶν (hearing) ὑμῶν (of you).”
22 Καὶ (And) πάντες (all) ἐμαρτύρουν (were bearing witness) αὐτῷ (to Him) καὶ (and) ἐθαύμαζον (marveling) ἐπὶ (at) τοῖς (the) λόγοις (words) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (grace) τοῖς (that) ἐκπορευομένοις (are proceeding) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him); καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (they were saying), “Οὐχὶ (Not) υἱός (the son) ἐστιν (is) Ἰωσὴφ (of Joseph) οὗτος (this)?”
23 Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Πάντως (Surely) ἐρεῖτέ (you will say) μοι (to Me) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (proverb) ταύτην (this), ‘Ἰατρέ (Physician) θεράπευσον (heal) σεαυτόν (yourself)! ὅσα (Whatsoever) ἠκούσαμεν (we have heard) γενόμενα (has been done) εἰς (in) τὴν (-) Καφαρναοὺμ (Capernaum), ποίησον (do) καὶ (also) ὧδε (here) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πατρίδι (hometown) σου (of You).’”
24 Εἶπεν (He said) δέ (then), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὐδεὶς (no) προφήτης (prophet) δεκτός (acceptable) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πατρίδι (hometown) αὐτοῦ (of him).
25 ἐπ’ (In) ἀληθείας (truth) δὲ (now) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), πολλαὶ (many) χῆραι (widows) ἦσαν (there were) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) Ἠλίου (of Elijah) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰσραήλ (Israel), ὅτε (when) ἐκλείσθη (was shut up) ὁ (the) οὐρανὸς (heaven) ἐπὶ (for) ἔτη (years) τρία (three) καὶ (and) μῆνας (months) ἕξ (six), ὡς (when) ἐγένετο (there was) λιμὸς (a famine) μέγας (great) ἐπὶ (upon) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) γῆν (land);
26 καὶ (and) πρὸς (to) οὐδεμίαν (none) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπέμφθη (was sent) Ἠλίας (Elijah), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) εἰς (to) Σάρεπτα (Zarephath) τῆς (-) Σιδωνίας (of Sidon), πρὸς (to) γυναῖκα (a woman), χήραν (a widow).
27 καὶ (And) πολλοὶ (many) λεπροὶ (lepers) ἦσαν (were) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰσραὴλ (Israel) ἐπὶ (in the time) Ἐλισαίου (of Elisha) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (none) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκαθαρίσθη (was cleansed), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) Ναιμὰν (Naaman) ὁ (the) Σύρος (Syrian).”
28 Καὶ (And) ἐπλήσθησαν (were filled) πάντες (all) θυμοῦ (with anger) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) συναγωγῇ (synagogue), ἀκούοντες (hearing) ταῦτα (these things);
29 καὶ (and) ἀναστάντες (having risen up), ἐξέβαλον (they cast) αὐτὸν (Him) ἔξω (out) τῆς (of the) πόλεως (city) καὶ (and) ἤγαγον (led) αὐτὸν (Him) ἕως (unto) ὀφρύος (brow) τοῦ (of the) ὄρους (hill) ἐφ’ (upon) οὗ (which) ἡ (the) πόλις (town) ᾠκοδόμητο (had been built) αὐτῶν (of them), ὥστε (in order) κατακρημνίσαι (to throw over) αὐτόν (him);
30 αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (however), διελθὼν (having passed) διὰ (through) μέσου (the midst) αὐτῶν (of them), ἐπορεύετο (went away).
