[הוּם, הִים] verb murmur, roar, discomfit (Arabic (medial ) is rush about madly (literally, or in passion, love, &c.), figurative be distracted; on √ הִים see HiPs 55:3 ZMG 1883, 540) —

Qal Perfect 3 masculine singular suffix וְהָמָם consecutive Deut 7:23 מְהוּמָה גְדֹלָה ׳וְה (׳י subject) and he shall discomfit them (with) a great discomfiture (according to Di ׳וה is from הָמַם, here pointed as עו֞ because of מְהוּמָה; but see i. 486 & references); here, according to l.c., belongs Imperfect 1 singular cohortative אָהִ֫ימָה (i. e. √ עי֞) Ps 55:3 am driven about (Hi De), or distracted. Niph`al Imperfect 3 feminine singular וַתֵּהֹם 1Sam 4:5 + 2 t. (on form compare Ges«GKC:72»§ 72 R 5); be in a stir, of a city Ruth 1:19 (followed by על over, on account of, 1Kgs 1:45 of ground re-echoing shout 1Sam 4:5. Hiph`il Imperfect 1 singular אָהִ֑ימָה Ps 55:3 shew disquietude (so most, compare above); but Ol Che וְאֶהֱמָ֑וָה ( Ps 77:4); LagProph. Chald. xlviii. 2, BN 27 אֶהֱמֶה (Ps 18); 3 feminine plural תְּהִימֶנָה (?תֶּהֱמֶינָה) Mic 2:12 they (i.e. fold & pasture) shall murmur with men.
