John 1:9-30

Anderson(i) 9 He was the true Light, which, coming into the world, gives light to every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came to his own country, and his own people received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them he gave the privilege of be coming the children of God, even to those who believe on his name; 13 who were begotten, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the "WORD became flesh, and tabernacled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and of truth. 15 John testified of him, and cried, saying: This is he of whom I said: He that comes after me, is now before me, for he existed before me. 16 And from his fullness have we all received, even grace for grace; 17 for the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has revealed him. 19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him: Who are you? 20 And he confessed, and did not deny; and he confessed: I am not the Christ. 21 And they asked him: What then? Are you Elijah? And he said: I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered: No. 22 They then said to him: Who are you? that we may give an answer to those who sent us; what say you of yourself? 23 He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord; as said the prophet Isaiah. 24 And those who were sent were of the Pharisees; 25 and they asked him, and said to him: Why, then, do you immerse, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? 26 John answered them, saying: I immerse in water; but there stands one among you whom you know not. 27 He it is, who, though he comes after me, is now before me; the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose. 28 These things were done in Beth any, beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing. 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said: Behold the Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who is now before me, for he existed before me.
