ACV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹⁷ For Herod himself having sent forth, he arrested John, and bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he married her. ¹⁸ For John said to Herod, It is not permitted for thee to have thy brother's wife. ¹⁹ And Herodias was resentful toward him, and wanted to kill him. And she could not, ²⁰ for Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and he protected him. And having heard of him-the many things he was doing-he even heard of him gladly.
