John 6:45-69

ABU(i) 45 It is written in the prophets: And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father, and has learned, comes to me. 46 Not that any one has seen the Father, save he who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Verily, verily, I say to you, he that believes on me has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread that comes down out of heaven, that one may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down out of heaven. If any one eat of this bread, he shall live forever; yea, and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Jesus therefore said to them: Verily, verily, I say to you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father has sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eats me, he also shall live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down out of heaven. Not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead; he that eats of this bread shall live forever. 59 These things he said in the synagogue, while teaching in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard it, said: This is a hard saying; who can hear it? 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them: Does this offend you? 62 What then if ye behold the Son of man ascending up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that makes alive, the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him. 65 And he said: For this cause I have said to you, that no one can come to me, except it be given him from the Father. 66 From this time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Jesus said therefore to the twelve: Will ye also go away? 68 Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and know, that thou art the Holy One of God.
