ABU(i)
AFTER these things Jesus went away, beyond the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
And a great multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he wrought on the sick.
And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
And the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.
Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude is coming to him, says to Philip: Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat?
And this he said to try him; for he himself knew what he was about to do.
Philip answered him: Two hundred denáries worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that each one may take a little.
One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, says to him:
There is a lad here, who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but what are they among so many?
Jesus said: Make the men lie down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men lay down, in number about five thousand.
And Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to those who were lying down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they desired.
When they were filled, he said to his disciples: Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above to those who had eaten.
The men therefore, seeing the sign that Jesus wrought, said: This is of a truth the Prophet that comes into the world.
Jesus therefore, knowing that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him a king, withdrew again into the mountain, himself alone.
