⁶ He spoke also this parable: A certain man had a figtree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. ⁷ Then said he to the vinedresser, Lo! three years I have come seeking fruit on this figtree, and have found none; cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? ⁸ And he answering saith to him, Lord, let it alone this year also; till I shall dig about it, and dung it; ⁹ and if it bear fruit hereafter, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.

³¹ For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit he cleanseth, that it may bear more fruit.

⁶ If any one abideth not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather it, and cast it into the fire, and it is burned.

¹ Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the apostle and highpriest of our profession, Jesus; ² who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also was Moses in all his house. ³ For he hath been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as greater than the house is he who built it.

⁸ but if it bear thorns and briers it is disapproved, and is near to being accursed; and its end is to be burned.

²⁸ He that hath set at nought the law of Moses dieth without mercy under two or three witnesses; ²⁹ of how much heavier punishment, think ye, will he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite to the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongeth to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord;" and again, "The Lord will judge his people." ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him who speaketh. For if they did not escape, who refused him who spoke his will on earth, much more shall not we, if we turn away from him who speaketh from heaven;

¹⁷ For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God; but if it first begin with us, what will be the end of those who obey not the gospel of God? ¹⁸ and "if the righteous scarcely is saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?"
