²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets, for God hath avenged you on her.

⁴⁹ And therefore the wisdom of God hath said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute: ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which has been shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah,

⁷ and will not God do justice for his elect that cry to Him day and night, though He bear long with them. ⁸ I tell you, He will avenge them speedily. And yet when the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith in the land?

²⁰ being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone:

⁵ which in other generations was not made known to men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; that the Gentiles should be co-heirs,

¹¹ And therefore He gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers; to qualify holy men for the work of the ministry,

² that ye may be mindful of the words formerly spoken by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: knowing this first,

¹⁷ But, beloved, remember the words which were formerly spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; for they told you,

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell upon the earth?

¹² Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them: but wo to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea; for the devil is come down to you, in great rage, knowing that he hath but a short time.

¹ And after these things I heard a loud voice as of a great multitude in heaven, saying, Alleluia; salvation, and glory, and honor, and power to the Lord our God: for true and righteous are his judgements; ² He hath judged the great whore, who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand: ³ (and again they said, Alleluia:) and her smoke ascendeth for ever and ever.
