³² (things which the heathens are so inquisitive after) for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these.

⁴⁶ For if ye love only them that love you, what reward do ye expect? do not even the publicans the same? ⁴⁷ and if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not the publicans so likewise?

⁸ be not ye therefore like them; for your Father knoweth what ye have need of before ye ask Him.

²⁵ but Jesus called them to Him and said, Ye know that the princes of the gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority upon them: ²⁶ it shall not be so among you; but whosoever would be great among you, let him be your minister, and whoever would be chief among you,

¹¹ If a son ask bread of any father among you, will he give him a stone? and if he ask for a fish, will he instead of a fish give him a serpent? or if he ask for an egg, ¹² will he give him a scorpion? ¹³ If ye then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

³⁰ for all these things the nations of the world seek after; but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and charge you in the name of the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk,

⁵ not in the passion of lust, like the heathens who know not God.
